Idea for decaying ships...returns to owners pack or bank

By now I'm sure everyone is aware of the issues with the big boats, them disappearing and sailing on their own or whatever is happening and for the unlucky, never finding them again and having them decay away.

I offer an idea that I think is very doable. If your ship decays instead of it disappearing, it reverts back into a deed and returns to the owners backpack or bank as if it were docking itself. All items on board would of course go away but the boat would at least be saved.

Opinions?

Good a place to ask this as any I guess.. a little while ago someone mentioned you could report the location of a sunken ship/floating cannon set with coordinates and such and they would go away.

Can't seem to find the thread I read that in so maybe a re-post of how to do that?

I do a lot of sailing with my new fisherman and I'd love to start cleaning up all the docks you can't even get to because so many cannons are partying there.

NOOOOOOOOO no No

if you left your ship out ther long enought to decay you should not get it put in your bank.

Don't tell me about lost ships there has been plenty of time sine the word about dry docking and fixing them.

They do need to remove the canos or let them become free for anyone to pick they are a pain in the but.

:stir:AGIN NO Ship Decay your loss, wiat my house decayed save my lot so i can come back and place it again PhFFT

...except people are still encountering issues despite the "fix" came out. And don't try to compare houses to boats, houses don't move on their own. They also auto-refresh too.

Well ... it IS an "idea" ...

I suppose it could possibly be a sufficient plan "B"
When plan "A.1" finally gets chucked ...
.1 being >Fix Plan A<
and Plan "A" being "release a working ship"

*AHEM*

Could also (plan "B" wise) make the new ships like the legacy ones ...
any one tugs on the plank and it "refreshes"
Plank opens up and I can't (cannot) access the hold
can set it adrift, can't rename it though
(Drifted three while looking for popps on cats ... yep! dropped a pile of ore by the mast ... too heavy to carry ...
next pass might try a tamed cat ... long story :) )

Anyways
yeah, that's my plan "B";
Child the properties of the legacies to the noob boats
Both will essentially be "permanent" ... as long as there are snoops tugging on the access panels(Planks and mooring lines)
Cargo remains secure for both ... just no "lock down" additions for the legacy class
Both will be recall accessible ... via keys left in the bank
(no long time corpse decay "losing" a key)
Make the keys "clone-able"(copy key) used to be that way ... haven't tried for current state.
Key holders can "over-ride" passenger/stowaway class "trespassers" (one key one "captain")

o'well, tis a dull story anyways ... :danceb:

It is probably arguable that this would be far too convenient, if the loss is your fault. Keep in mind also that if the ship can automatically be returned to you, then why not anything else in the game, and why not what is contained in the cargo hold?

However, there are a number of other (good) reasons, including forgetting, that contributes to ship loss. For this reason, it would probably be better for an onscreen message to be displayed warning of possible ship decay.

Also, can't ships be tracked by other ships? If not, wouldn't this be a wonderful use of the Tracking skill?

Check your security settings. And stop letting them free sail onto the server lines. Had to go three screens to get over a server line tonight do to all the ships stuck/left there.

Things are fine. just learn to put your toys where they belong.

How about adding that the contents will surface at the Cavern of the Discarded rather than just go "poof" ??

As in regards "part" of the Plan A needing a fix, the ship runes loosing connection abrupt, there is one thing I fail to understand. Over the years I have used ships in the game, I have never EVER heard of a ship key (talking here of the old ship types with a key and a plank...) "losing" the recall connection to the boat abrupt.

Why then the High Seas ships' runes loose the connection to the ship so often?
Can't they be made like the old keys which have been working just fine for so long now ?

Something looks very fishy about the High Seas ship runes starting from when I mark one on board of a ship in TRAMMEL and the rune says "Felucca".... I need to make a few recalls on and off and finally it resets itself properly to Trammel. But the fact that the fresh mark offsets the facet does not look right to me to start with.

I would say High Seas ship runes do need a good overhaul and be looked at in detail.......

You'd think that the people who pay $13 for a Brit ship would be making a lot more noise about the Brit ships auto-refreshing. There was a thread in SnR about it. I think it's a valid point.

No Not a good idea for true decay. But I agree with this... A mechanism to recall your boat to port.

You would go to a designated port. Double click your key or boat rune and then click sailor. Your boat is brought back to you with you stuff stowed. Cost 50k for services.

Won't work when you truly need it, i.e. when your rune doesn't work. That's the whole point.

Exactly. If the runes were reliable there wouldn't be any problem and this thread wouldn't be here.

Hmm well keys work. It would help me.

As for the rune turn them back to keys. Though I am not sure if they coded my idea and you could double click the rune and target a NPC that you would have the same issue.

By writing new code, you might circumvent the problem. So no you cant get to your boat but yes the recalling the boat back to port works.

You never know with program code.
