Housing – more than 1 per account – anywhere!
This is a dusted-off version of something I suggested long ago for multiple housing. I’m updating it to address more issues than originally put forth.
I've recently noted there have been more voices in the "more housing" wish list. Maybe it can work, maybe not.
= = =
Premise:
Each account is entitled to a housing allotment of 2048 tiles for housing.
All units are auto-refresh - even grandfathered ones.

Buying a plot:
Whatever plot you lay down, the overall footprint must be less than or equal to the remaining tiles in your housing allotment. A castle is 31x31 or 961 tiles.
Demolish a house:
The number of tiles for the plot are returned to the allotment tally.
Selling the house:
The buyer must have at least the number of tiles needed for the plot in their allotment. Once the deal is completed, the buyer loses the number of tiles and the seller regains them (like a demolish).

So what does this gain us?
Total allotment of 2048 is the same as 2 castles and perhaps a 10x12 or 11x11 … with just a few left over. Or how about 41 7x7 houses?
If you want to, place housing on multiple shards … the allotment of tiles is on the account.
EXAMPLES:
A non-grandfathered account with 1 18x18 on it would look like this:
Total Tiles Allowed: 2048
Total Tiles Used: 324
Tiles Remaining: 1724
Grandfathered: N
Grandfathered accounts with usage over the allotment has zero as remaining balance. If these are sold off or demolished the account allotment will show zero until the remaining structures tally 2048 or less in size.
A grandfathered account with a castle, keep, 2 large w/patio and a tower has a total of 2153 tiles used:
Total Tiles Allowed: 2048
Total Tiles Used: 2153
Tiles Remaining: 0
Grandfathered: Y
Selling or demolishing 1 Large w/patio unit would then reduce tiles used by 196 leaving a total used of 1957, total tiles remaining of 91. This is sufficient for a 10x9 custom plot later.
Changes needed?
REFRESHING:
As stated before, ALL housing (including grandfathered) would be auto-refreshed.
Balance Remaining:
As the account age is in the paperdoll scroll, the remaining allotment could be shown there as well.

Determine Usage:
Housing server could execute a nightly routine that gathers the account and tally of used plot tiles. I make the following assumptions:
1. It knows the house is grandfathered or not, so flag can be set. Else how does it know you need to refresh the house or not?
2. It knows a plot size because the initial funds were deducted from the bank!
As a result it can supply the tiles used and grandfather flag as shown above.
Gains & Losses:
We all gain the ability to have more than one house – on any shard.
For large open areas (Malas??) there is a possibility of having your own little town.
Those who currently refresh their homes will not need to do so.
Storage space entitlements should carry to each unit owned.
Malas should still retain the no castle or keep rules.
= = =
It's not perfect, but is it workable? If implemented, would YOU be satisfied with what you could do?
