Ancient Hell Hounds - Absolutely Brilliant

No, I'm not being sarcastic. I don't know if it was intended or not, but the result has been perfect. I'll explain myself.

Ever since the "champ spawns" came to the Felucca rules set there has been one type that has completely dominated, and anyone who has spent any time at all "running champ spawns" knows which that is, the infamous "rat spawn". Now in T2A this is so much the case that the other types of spawns would often not even be attempted. All the nasty pvp'rs would run around popping spawns trying to get a rats spawn, and if they didn't get what they were looking for, they'd go do something else.

Well that is in the process of changing. The rat spawn is easily the easiest of the spawn types and frankly it is fairly boring and predictable. A few people can knock off a rat spawn very quickly if they know what they are doing. Or at least they could. Now however, you never know when those obligingly easy to kill hell hounds are going to morph into those absolute buggers, the ancient hell hounds, at the benison of the treat bag of some twisted little stealther. Funny how a dozen or more of those hell hounds will suddenly make the other spawn types much more attractive.

So serious kudos to the dev team for keeping us on our toes, mixing things up a little, and forcing at least some of us out of our comfort zones. :)

Interesting that there was a post just this week from people complaining about them.

To each his own I guess.

To me, it's largely an oversight on EA's part, much like Barracoon's AI. Despise fights are a lot better than Yew Gate, and now it takes 10 minutes to kill Despise off for the whole day. If "brilliant" is what you call a situation which will make people log out of Fel, then I guess it's brilliant. Also, it isn't just the type of spawn, but how Despise can be used by PvPers. Of course, for PvMers, rat spawns are great because you can wither-leech all four tiers.

I disagree.

Not sure exactly what you meant when you said that Despise fights are better but IMO too many people have superiority complexes when it comes to pvp.

How is pvp that basically consists of nothing more then mass fielding better or more skillful then gate pvp? I am not saying gate pvp is the greatest thing ever(1 vs 1 house-huggers are complete trash)but it is no worse then standing on a bridge throwing the same fields for 30 minutes.

At least at the gate you have the ability to play all different templates whereas dungeon/field fighting limits the amount of effective templates.

I think that the OP is 100% correct.

Damn near every pvp guild justs runs from Rat to Rat all day. Its boring and predictable. Most shards I have played you can always sneak off a Deceit with just one other person cause you know the chances are slim that anyone will show up to even raid.

I disagree.
If you take away houses, guardzones, ant holes, and server lines, then Yew Gate is a decent place to PvP. But it's not hard to put 120 magic resist on a dexxer template, or to completely supplant the skill with a trap box.

I made an agruement about this earlier this week. The part I find absolutely stupid is how it interferes with trammy stuff like Slasher. I dont know if there are hellhounds all over near Slasher on the other shards, but on Origin, there are hellhounds everywhere. Try doing Slasher with a group and having an opposing guild decide to stealth in and feed all the hellhounds. Seriously lame.

From a pvp aspect, quit doing rats and do other spawns for a change.

Lol

You forgot hidden dismount/tamers & Heartwood hiders(can u still do that?)

I am good with all of the above when you are getting ganked but 1 vs 1 is another story.

I like 1 vs 1 and believe it or not you can still get that at Yew gate. But you can rarely get 1 vs 1 at a spawn or in a dungeon. Group figthing is great but not the same for me.
