Just a simple question.

It would be interesting to see if 10% are affected, 20% or more.

I voted yes, but I wouldn't say it was motion sickness as such. It just really hurts my eyes after a short while playing.

there is a post somewhere discussing this already and someone who knows more than most of us about this sorta thing says that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get motion sickness from non 3d games

so please describe what YOU think motion sickness is please and maybe you can add HEADACHE as an option also which is NOT motion sickness

so in fact the voting should show ZERO for motion sickness

your point is?

I have found the EC with pinco's interface to be an amazing breath of fresh air while playing this game, no more squinting at the screen for stupid little icons and game windows also if you get a headache or tired eyes get a BIGGER monitor and move your sweed away from the screen

I live near Umbra. For some reason the void stars do it for me in the enhanced client, so I simply use the classic client. I love the way somethings look, but I think what is worse than the nausea is the eye strain. I think it is because everything can look "fuzzy" and my eyes are working overtime to try and focus it. Oh, an' I have gotten motion sickness playing portal, WoW and the latest game to do it is Flower... so it isn't just the EC.

Hello there!

as a recent convert to the EC using Pinco's interface and deco pack, plus setting up camera zoom correctly i think it is amazing

give it a try, takes a while to set everything up but it is truely amazing!

A new thread saves spares the original thread a continuation of the segue off topic.
Maybe you could enlighten us as to why you are being so passionate on this subject, since it seems that investigating this phenomenon could prove beneficial for the client in the long run.

Personally, I only get motion sickness when I'm on a boat or other vehicle, never from games.

There have always been complaints about the KR client and EC making people sick, so I just wanted to see what % of people are affected.

What might be interesting is how many people who play now get affected in any way, i remember when i first trie dit i hated it, scale was all wrong etc was laggy not smooth and made me hate it, now it is much improved, though by Pinco's interface not EZ and hopefully that will be addressed to

my point is, sadly it takes time to set up, but when it is WOW

i would love to know the % of players on EC and reason why they have not changed

it really is a revelation the icons and hotbars hot keys etc make is so much better to play imo

i do think alot of people don't play EC due to old skool etc and also computers not being able to run it, which is a real shame

No I don't, Also can watch 3D tv with no issues.

I imagine those who do get sick from EC also find 3d difficult and it's down to images and the brain rather than specifically the EC artwork.

I heard that several highly detailed studies have proved a link between the EC and overall levels of violence in real life, linking many violent acts to those who use the EC.

I also read another report that longterm exposure to the EC causes cancer.

Totally legit.

Thanks Assia for posting that. I haven't tried the EC yet, but Portal and WOW and a few other games like Myst Uru have made me so sick I've had to lay down for an hour, after only 10 minutes of trying to play. I now know to watch out for that when I try the EC, which I keep meaning to do. Much appreciated! Motion sickness sucks. And it's not a headache or eye strain. It's actual motion sickness, just like being on a boat. I've been on lots of boats and gaming actually makes me a little more motion sick than some boats have :(

I liked the idea of the EC, but the artistic decision back during KR to go with an "organic" look was a terrible one.

The EC looks like this (washed out and blurry):

But it should look like this (fairly sharp edges, clearly delineated even in low-light dungeon-type environments):

You should actually play the game from the first image. The screenshot is a bit misleading and only certain aspects of it are actually blurry (particularly things like foliage and grass). It is a beautiful game aesthetically.

But yes, ideally it'd look as sharp and crisp as the second image.

UO gives me a headache in EC. It's hard to tell what things are, I find myself squinting despite no vision problems and frankly, I feel some degree of carsickness sometimes.

Yeah, Limbo is surprisingly visually stunning for an Xbox Live Arcade game. It's like a noire Braid.

Very welcome. One thing that has helped me with the nausea are acupressure bands on my wrists. We originally bought them for my nausea during migraines, but I've found they seem to help with video game motion sickness as well. Mine are from Sea-Band and cost less than $10, but I'm sure there are other brands out there. Might help as well... after all us gamers can't let nausea keep us down!

No 2D Classic Client gives me motion sickness, a headache, and causes outright depression.

EC Client and even more so UOKR caused all these symptons to disappear.

And yes Pinco has done a superb job in adding in many features the Dev team should have put in from the word go.

Hopefully we'll see some form of high resolution option soon and work on bringing out all the features the EC Client is capable of.

Since I upgraded my PC about a year ago I've used nothing but the EC... with Pinco's awesome UI...

NO I don't get motion sickness or anything like that. Though staring too long into the starry abyss will make me feel weird. Something is wrong with it. At one time I think in KR it looked SUPER AWESOME but now it's like "blurred" or something and all stretched out and stuff and it just looks BAD.

Kinda OT but I have tried a few times to play the ec and it is very choppy/lags and makes me feel ill and the look of the dungeons is horrific. The most important thing that keeps me from using it is how the dragons look sounds lame I know but they look very ugly. The blue hue of the dungeons and pastille color is very cartoon looking to me just imho

I love a lot of the feature and I also like the grass and some of the other mobs look awesome

Cant please use all and I am happy for those that like it

I wounder if they devs could give use legacy mob art as an option?

at first when the EC came out in pre beta it gave me a headache.. but since then i have upgraded my pc to a amd x2 cpu (its an old 939 core even) and an ati 5770 1gb video card (runs about 130$).. then upped the frame rate from 30 to 60 and its silky smooth..

its all i play now.

I voted occassionly, while Motion sickness has happened once or twice I more often find an issue with Eye Strain from the EC than anything the graphics have a fuzzy feel especially land tiles and over time that bothers me...

No, but I do get a headache. Not graphics related at all though. It's from Bug. Like disappearing bandages. As in, I have 500 in my pack, I use one, wait a bit, then I hit my bandage macro again and OH LOOK NO ****ING BANDAGES and I die. And trust me, they do disappear, because it doesn't require me dying for it to happen, and if I log out and back in, voila my macro works. For 2 tries then repeat. :/

Also just something I'd like to add. I've really only played the EC extensively for around a week now. I went back to CC last night because I just couldn't do Stygian Dragon with my archer with that bug killing me, and dear god did my computer break or is the CC really that sluggish? Movement is EXTREMELY jerky.

The Void area around Malas.
I can't use the EC in Malas, my eyes start to hurt, I get a headache and I get sick to my stomach in just a few min. Even if that wasn't enough the EC just looks fuzzy to me. I have tried playing with settings but it still looks fuzzy.

You think the EC Client looks fuzzy!? Hah! That's hilarious. The 2D client is the fuzzy wuzziest client of all them.

I voted no, although there is one caveat to this.

Repeated use of the Earthquake spell will do it (and it used to be MUCH worse). Standard gameplay is fine though.

Yeah try doing Corgal with about 15 mages. It's impossible.

I also hate the flapping of wings both from dragons and gargoyles. But only when they are blocking view. And when I'm on a gargoyle I find they are always getting in my way of clicking on things.

As for "fuzzies" those all went away when I got my newer pc and the better graphics card.

I find the CC extremely sluggish and I can never find a thing in my pack anymore.

The EC doesn't cause me any problems -

But the POV games that are UO's competitors (and FPS) give me motion sickness just from watching them full screen, let alone attempting to play them.

Someone put the "Leroy Jenkins" Incident up on the wide-screen TV last week at my local game store, full-screen, and it gave me a bad headache.

I wouldn't say motion sickness, but I do notice that my eyes start bothering me after about 10 minutes, and whatever you do don't run back and forth across the bridge just outside of Luna.

The one thing I haven't seen anyone address is how much time and money does EA spend on having to keep 2 clients running, and are they having to do anything special to try and keep both clients running around the same speed. Just curious if they only had the EC client, could they improve graphics and sacrifice speed. I highly doubt they would get rid of the CC anytime soon since they would be afraid of the potential number of players that would rather quit than switch.

First off, I apparently don't get motion sickness, and I've even tried to induce it to see what it feels like, but I haven't had luck. The closest I believe I've gotten is sometimes while reading in a vehicle I get sort of tired and dizzy.
I've been on fishing boats on the main while drinking a case of beer, no luck.

With that being said, both my wife and the woman I was previously engaged to experience severe motion sickness. Therefore, I've become pretty good at predicting what will make them sick. Motion sickness itself is, by my understanding as a scientist, but not a physician, highly subjective, so being able to say by observation that one situation will definitely cause it while another won't is probably not possible. I've also been told there is a psychological element to motion sickness

The EC on certain settings played on my monitor is one of those things that sets off the "wife may become sick" alarms, although a minor one. That is completely subjective and not based on observational evidence, though experience would tell me its about a 30% chance for her, more or less. She gets pretty bad motion sickness though, so for most people it probably won't happen.

As far as someone who "knows" saying that 2d games can't cause motion sickness, I'd like to see a quote or source on that. It seems that anything which causes one sense to percieve motion while the others don't could cause some people to be sick.

Perhaps I should try out for NASA.......
