The Royal Investigator Ranking System

The Royal Investigator Service

Background

In order to reward players who take an active part in the story arcs and not just those who attend the "live" events we have come up with a system to enhance the player experience. The concept is that in between live events there are always things happening in the world of Sosaria that need to be investigated and reported on "in character" to the various role-play characters [RPCs] we have created such as Nathan Hawke, Fynn Barret and others. This should help to make the story arcs more cohesive and fill in the gaps between scheduled events.

As player characters complete missions, write reports and attend events they will earn achievement points. Once a set number of points have been achieved the player’s character will earn a sash denoting their current rank in the Royal Investigator Service. Sashes will be handed to the player’s character once the rank has been achieved at a formal award service.

[As with all systems like this it is not set in stone and it can and will be tweaked and altered if necessary or it isn’t working.]

There will be two main ways to earn ranking points as follows:

Taking Part in Missions.

Mission details will be posted on the EM Website usually at around 8pm UK time for the sake of consistency. [We hope to also have an in game means of alerting players that a mission has started and its current status] The mission details will give the name of the mission, the objective, a starting point, what information needs to be included in the mission report and the method by which the mission report needs to be submitted. This will either be by a verbal report in character in game, via an in game book left at a mailbox or a forum post as appropriate. [More details on this to follow]

Some missions will be able to be undertaken by many players with points awarded for the first person to complete with lesser points awarded to those who complete after. [Like a competition where the first past the post to write and submit the report gets 3 points, second place gets 2 points and all others who complete the mission and submit a report get 1 point].

Other missions will only be able to be completed once and points will be awarded to the first player to complete the mission and submit a report i.e. Recover the stolen plans for the new Royal Barge – this can obviously only be completed once as in this instance there would only be one set of plans to recover.

Taking Part in Live Events.

Specific live events which will be eligible for ranking points will be posted on the EM Website in advance of an event. Events will include competitive type events, role play events, training events and other kinds.

In order to earn a ranking point for attending an event you will need to submit an in game book and drop it off at a mailbox [details to follow] with the date and character name within 30 minutes of the finish of the event. It is vital that this is done in order to register that you attended an event.

In order to earn a possible extra two points you will need to submit an in game book with a brief report of what happened at the event and drop it off at the mailbox within a given amount of time after the event [a few days at least]. You will need to include your character name and date of the event also.

Year ago we discussed sashes and found:
1. sash can be traded so no one know is it actual character made something valuable for community
2. sash is hidden under robe most wearing
3. using overhead title is cool (visible and can't be traded), but require some power not available to EMs yet

Makes the sashes non tradeable or put names on them (like AoS clothing). That would make them less sought after financially. Stick the players name at the end. Give it a name like :

Royal Investigator Colonel Stickypaws

This not solve #2
Have you seen sash I wearing?
You can in the EC client. :D

Sashes have always been apart of the Royal Guard, Really I think they are the only slot people would consider having wasted on a none property item. Only other item I can think of is the cloak.

I love the idea. :)

I prefer "Traveler the Royal Investigator" overhead title.
To check sash label you must open paperdoll.

Best spot that is never used by anyone for anything is the full apron slot, we have nothing that goes in there.

I made a post a few months back asking the devs if we could have something for that spot like a wepons bag/scarab so all our insured wepons dont bounce and mess up our pack when we die. Or just a bag that will also take rune books and spell books to stop our packs being a mess when we die with insured or blessed items as they could stay in there.

As its the only slot that has nothing usefull to be used for, would be good to make use of it :(

Isn't the full apron in the same slot as the sash though?

Yeah your right i just checked :(

I thought it was only the dublet that took the same spot.

Its probably because iv never worn a full apron with a sash only tested it with a half apron.

Dang there goes that good idea hehe.

Although a full apron would be more unique than a sash as we seam to get sashes for everything these days no full aprons.

Many years ago at the time the original Brittanian sashes were handed out there was a post made requesting sashes be made to go OVER robes. People were proud of their sashes but wearing them often meant that they had to choose between wearing a reward robe or wearing their sash. The solution was obvious but despite great support for the post as usual something players wanted was totally ignored.

In real life sashes can be worn OVER any type of clothing but no significance is given to this in UO. Sashes are rewards, robes now often have a certain stat benefit, so its a damn shame you have to choose which item you have showing when it doesnt have to be.

Ah well I guess we wont get what we would like but will just have to wait for them to mend the next thing which aint broken.

What about the earing slot?

That is rarely used, i can thing of only 2 usefull items for it, thats if your human for nightsight (but cant get them anymore so not many people have them) the other one is for 5 resists which cost a bomb and with imbuing now its easy to max your resists so there rarely used.
