Scripters and lobsters' Traps : 100% no losses ?

I was at bank yesterday, trying to sort out some stuff.
I was hidden doing my shuffling and stuff.

These 2 players come over and start chatting this and that but something caught up my attention.

Not sure whether it is just talks and rumors or it actually is for real but it seems some scripts out there make it so that they can recover the trap before it sinks 100% of times?

I tried my best not to loose a trap, manually, but most of times, before I can double click it it is gone, sunk below the waves.....
I have even stayed with my cursor over a single one trap, STILL, but nonetheless, I cannot beat the sinking, not manually at least.

Can a script really recover 100% of traps ?

I HATE scripting, wholeheartedly, and I do not understand why I have to keep playing a game where others can script............

That was the first thing that crossed my mind while trying to get rock lobsters.
I lose about 50% of my traps. :rant2:

Of those 50% one half vanishes without any message. The other half just spams the *booble* text and vanishs within a second. Iam too slow for such games. So over all 75% of my traps give the *booble* text, which should be easy tracked by scripts and therefore the script should get all the traps iam too slow for.

I doubt it can get the ones which just vanish.

PS: why is it that those crabs always bite when iam talking to someone via chat or icq?

You don't have to. Just close your accounts.

I suspect scripting is never going to get stopped unless they make the UO client simply take over the computer completely while it's running.

Entirely possible.

From my experience, a lobster trap will either begin to bob around 30-40 seconds after placement, or it will take a random amount longer.

Basically, I went to a wharf on the Floating Emporium and set up 12 around the wharf. Sure enough, with a few exceptions, they all went in sequence.

Now if you place, script to pick them all up after the interval, you will get around 30% that didn't instantly bob, but they will just be empty traps you can re-use. So if you were to automate the process, I could see how you would have a backpack bursting with crustaceans after setting it up and going off to the movies...

Why instead not make the UO client (both clients....) just SHUT DOWN if any scripting activity is detected ?

This way, Ultima Online would effectively be UNPLAYABLE with scripting.....

Better yet... Why not actually put a better macro system in the Client that saves us ALL from carpal tunnel. Half the people that use illegal programs would stop if they would eliminate the the bs double clicking. Yes we have UOA but we all know of other progs that make it a heck of alot easier to do mundane tasks. They should either build that ability into the clients OR make it EASier for one program to be legal.

Yes a script might be able to manage 3 traps. Why 3 you have to be at distance to grab them. A script (though you can walk via script) can beat the sinking trap if the toon isn't there.

That being said. A script could fully handle 3. But some sink anyway. The just sink. They can be grabbed. The bobble sinks maybe.

Now
As posted I can drop 10 and walk the length of my boat and grab the ones in sequence that follow. If some stay longer. JUST GRAB them and set them in order again. The traps arent expensive.

By managing 10 traps or more.... YOU CAN out script a scripter. Woohoo.

doubtful a script could get 100% of traps before sinking, cuz as was said, some traps just go under with no bob, even within 10 seconds of placing sometimes.

My method I use (when im not distracted hehe) is sit in the middle of a rowboat and place 8 traps all within reach and have my pack beetle next to me. you can fit 8 kinda like this:

* * * * * is the traps and the <====> is the rowboat

this works well if your paying attention, just have a pile of traps on your packie for replacements.

So you want a bunch of snoop programs running around in your computer while you are playing UO. No Thank You, and no I do not cheat.

Personaly i'd just like the percentage of traps going "under" to be less. geesh go out with 50 traps in bag, set out 8 (which if you set them right you can reach easly) You watch intently....... no warning 3 go under .... no "bob" just under waves....... ok reset the missing as a few "bob" and are collected and replaced.. again 4 go poof.... reset more out there and pick up "bobbing" ones.. in a matter of minutes I had left in traps 6. The quests for Lobsters and Crabs is very unbalanced.... how can I fill a quest for 15 spinny lobsters if out of 50 traps used I get 2.... and loose 44 traps???

Using the EC, if you place a trap and select it as a target, then when it starts bobbing, it'll be deselected.
This would suggest that something changes, and if a script can pick up on that (which it probably can), then it can respond quicker than a human.
So, not only a speed advantage, but it can respond to potentially non-visible cues (if the traps go through the change then sink, then it should be possible for them to respond in that window).

Plus, I think you can maybe place 4-6 from the prow of a ship.

Fishing off the docks at the fish market I can stand in one spot and place up to 7 traps at a time without having to move.

However the loss rate is VERY high.

I'm sure there is a script to pick them up that ques in to unseen clues or something but I do all my gameplay manually and in the EC.

I certainly hope they find themselves banned.


That aside I agree the loss rate of traps is FAR too high and I agree that I can not physically pick up many of the traps fast enough. Once the *Bob* message comes often I'm too late. Sometimes you get 3 bobbing at the same time and I always seem to chose the wrong one first and lose the other two.

I'm not happy about the fact that with the next publish not only will I have to contend with the high loss rate but I'll have to pack up and move ever little bit as well because the fish won't seem to be biting there anymore.

Max possible is 4*4 standing in middle of sea in case you find bugged tile.

Real number is 12, you stand at corner of docs (Y=you, o=trap)

I'm not happy about the fact that with the next publish not only will I have to contend with the high loss rate but I'll have to pack up and move ever little bit as well because the fish won't seem to be biting there anymore.
Agreed. I have been telling folks that seem to enjoy crabbing that they should set up a vendor as I would definatley prefer to pay 10k+ per crab I need instead of trying to catch the things.

It is inexplicable to me how such a devastating thing like scripting to all those players who do not script is not being severely addressed in the game.

I find it offensive towards all of those players who keep playing the game without scripting.

And I too find it offensive. I also have tried to delude myself by saying that they are only hurting themselves in their cheating but that's not true... it hurts everyone.

Many lie to themselves and say it doesn't effect them but it does.

IF you look at it like this... people cheat... so the DEV's change the game in effort to thwart cheating.... often this has far tougher punishment on those who DON'T cheat... than it does on the scripters themselves.

Will that make me give in and cheat... No.

Why don't you use your expert talents and send them the source code of the program you wrote which does so?

Maybe, but I know a player that scripts for sure - he's in a friendly guild and told me so. Even pities people who don't. He came back to UO very recently, so he didn't know about Cal's scary excel sheet. Took like 2 weeks of solid scripting for skills, gold and resources before someone told him. Well... he didn't get banned until now, so he keeps going because there seem to be no consquences.

Well, at least he's got enough honor to not use scripts in PvP.


Makes me glad I play the EC...

Please describe for me the last time you were personally hurt by the changes to PvP that you can't stop whining about. Guess it is only ok for you to whine about things. TROLL much.

thanks to you popps, now I had made an EC mod for collect lobster traps without losing them :p
Is not a 100% no losses like scripting but is MUCH better than do the work manually ;)
