I don't know about harder, but there's a distinct lack of being slapped with fish in that screenshot; He needs at least a "Whale Whirlwind" attack, where he spins across the screen holding said deep sea beastie...
That gave me an idea. He does have a big arm and some tentacles, why not make his melee a ranged attack of like 4-5 tiles? That would prevent players from hiding from him by standing in the middle of the boat.

Yup. This. Amazingly enough there are many "fixes" in this package. And the fixes are free!
It's be nice if they bothered to tell us what these alleged 'fixes' are, aside from the laughable "smooth boat movement" that is.

Of course he slaps with fish, well eels anyway. ( Initially I wanted him to throw hydras but, then I thought it may be too hard.)

Hopefully his abilities stand up against the ranged attackers.

I dislike this continual trend to make new monsters more and more difficult. All it does is separate the gap between who can and can't kill something. What is the purpose of making something harder? After about 5 minutes, something will definately get boring to kill. In under 1 minute, it could be considered too easy to kill (if it is supposed to be a boss-style monster). But why should it simply be about the killing? What about a puzzle or a hunt?

There are several RP guilds on Europa that I would imagine have a hard time dealing with newly added content simply because of their restrictive rules (where they disallow certain items and equipment). I don't necessarily agree with this type of handicapping, but the point that this makes is why should you have to have the best items in the game (which collectively make you look generic and ugly) just to be able to "do" the new content?

Thank you MESSANA!

For adding the "binding pole"... its not a "holding cell" but its close enough. I still think you should add in a holding cell... much more RP fun with that!

:)

Because it is an itembased game which needs to make things harder to keep people busy. (timesink)

Well a hydra every once in a while would make things interesting. :)

Dude! Did you watch the townhall videos? Cal didn't even know what a sampire is...
Are you serious or joking?
Where can I find the videos?

EDIT: HERE IS THE LINK
YouTube - UO Town hall 2010 - Part 1
Not quite the right link. Check this one:
YouTube - Andy Belford and Calvin Crowner UO Producer.

And yes, I'm dead serious. Go to 1.10 on my link. There someone types in chat that they should nerf sampires. And they go: "Nerf sampires... Nerf who? What? Oh, I don't know" and just go on.

I was honestly shocked!

To be fair, unless they're powerplayers they might not know what the heck a sampire is.

But yeah...nerf sampires!

I would be surprised if any of the encounters would prove too difficult for a party of 5 to 10. Will it be difficult for less? Sure. Is this a bad thing? No. In fact, they need to start making serious monsters serious again so that there is a lot less opportunity to gain "high-end" stuff from solo grinding. Like, say, the Stygian Dragon.

As far as making stuff harder, there really is a finite limit as to how hard they can make something before it's impossible for someone to get through it even in a group, and at that point, they exceed the usefulness of whatever creature is in question, because aside from EM and game-wide events, people are highly unlikely to mob together in any sort of fashion.

Well, as far as this is concerned, they've sort of made their own sub-ruleset (which has always struck me as very silly, but I guess every RP circle does it to some extent). In this case, they're sort of saying, "We don't expect to defeat everything in the game, and some stuff WILL overpower us." That's sort of their choice.

You absolutely do not NEED the best items in game in order to survive. That's really a bit of a stretch on ANYTHING that's in UO at all.

I'm not sure that's a major problem, Vesper a while ago arranged a champion spawn smash. Only around 6 of us turned up, So we decided to go wearing magical armour - Some changed their suits on their RP characters, others brought their other characters.

RPers have rules because they fight each other mostly (Although doing Destard with 6 people in RP gear is a must do, It's very fun!), Most have other characters properly suited for champion spawns/peerlesses etc.

Some guilds are more strict about it.
I don't think GRD would ever wear magical kit, for example.

But, if the boss monsters (or general monsters for that matter) didn't get more powerful, they would be "trivial" additions.

Well, seeing as their are the developers and the sampire is one of the most discussed templates for like 7 years, I think we can damn well expect that they know what a sampire is!

Just a suggestion to the Dev's... now that the white fishing net is used to summon either the Leviathan or Scalis, could you make it so that, say, there's a 1/20 chance (just like any paragons) that you might pull up a leviathan from a regular net?

I'm suggesting this because, I think sometimes I probably just want to have a go at a leviathan for a minor artefact like the Ghost Ship Anchor, but I can't say for sure I'll always be ready to fight Scalis, especially based how hard you guys would like him to be.
