No, I didn’t. You assumed because it fit your world view. So you can keep your hypocritical label, it fits you best.

You're generalising too, when you say the classic sharders ignored what Draconi said. Most of us do understand that there's more to creating a classic option than those who've suggested backups or "take the info off an old disk". Only a few people have suggested that, without realising the complexities involved. But feel free to lump us all together, nasty little people we clearly are, contrary to your wondrous and superior self.
I think Morganna was the only one to even acknowledge and adjust her outlook after Draconi posted. Generalities seem to be the stock and trade of the classic shard debate since there is precious little factual data in the players hands.


As for the six-figures quote, which could indeed have been 100,000 - had that many jumped ship at the time, as was "sensationally" suggested was/would be happening, then the game would have died around then.
The figure could have been hyperbole, or it could have been factual – we don’t actually know as the only sub numbers have come from internal EA leaks and generalized stockholder reports. We know that UO has lost subs in the “six figure range” over the years, hence how empty the shards are. I don’t believe any single event can be attributed to that phenomenon, nor that it happened with such rapidity to “doom” the game.

But I guess that I'm so used to people against the classic option rolling out that quote, little do those using it realise how severe the impact would indeed have been had there been any factual basis to it. Pure sensationalism, from someone on the defensive. If you can't see that, you really are very blinkered indeed.

Yes, you do seem rather defensive. Many of the classic sharders do. We know you all want the shard. We’ve heard it – to death in nearly every major thread on here. If you all want to be taken more seriously then the hyperbole, dubious statistical claims and the opinion presented as fact needs to stop. (and just to be clear, “you all” refers to all the classic sharders)

So, please... feel free to get back on your high horse (as if you ever climb off it...), of criticising this game, the developers, etc... that you supposedly prefer and "love".

Yeah, because expecting a quality product and actual customer service is so wrong! Just because you may be satisfied with mediocrity and sloppy publishes doesn’t mean the rest of us are. Please, spare me your faux indignance.

It is a lot of fun which generally makes its playerbase tolerate a lot more than they should as far as customer service and Live support is concerned. Some bugs have existed for over a decade and EA have no intention whatsoever of fixing them.

Town Hall was typical ... lets hit them with some shiny new content and gloss over all the long term problems that still havent been addressed. If anyone asks anything outside of the new content we'll gloss over it and get back to the shineys...

I'd like them to open up a menu like moongates, For Tokuno/Lost Lands/Felucca/Trammel seas. :thumbup1: Even add a fee to transport your boat through, 5000gp for a small row boat, 10,000gp for a larger boat. Have an option to refuse the fee and then then several tough guardians spawn to try take the gold off you. :D

I have wanted a fishing expansion for a long time and I am very excited about this. Was anything mentioned about mibs? Will they still exist and will the prechest and chest loot be upgraded? Will fishing nets continue to work the same way? Thanks in advance!

They said it will be done 'sometime', but its not with the booster pack.

Take 'sometime' for what you will.

Problem is you didnt see their body language....Like when it was asked if Keeps and Castles will become Customizable. It was obvious by their body language they have something brewing but their comments were not.

The body language for the Customizable Castles/Keeps looked more like a moment of "Oh God, not this again".

Castles and Keeps outside of completely SCRAPPING the current models for new ones probably will NEVER be fully customizable as they (and generally are) placed over static map features that would block some customizations attempts but not others depending on location making it a coding NIGHTMARE.

They can't simply let a castle or keep simply delete the static features or you'll likely have the entire landscape covered in them before too long, but keeping them in place causes issues with the custom house.

I wouldn't hold my breath on customizable keeps or castles being on the list any time in the near (or further) future.

Just watched the utube videos., and while i'm really glad they radically changed & added to the water aspects, and let you become a scrolled out fisher, and while it looks really cool in a lot of aspects, I'm not paying for it, sorry.

So... w/o the expansion, is there really any need for the now phased-out old-school fisher?
Looks like another skill to flush down the toilet as far as I can see, that will be 3 skills for me of lately. Excitement is all gone for me now about the new 'upgrade'.

The body language for the Customizable Castles/Keeps looked more like a moment of "Oh God, not this again".

Castles and Keeps outside of completely SCRAPPING the current models for new ones probably will NEVER be fully customizable as they (and generally are) placed over static map features that would block some customizations attempts but not others depending on location making it a coding NIGHTMARE.

They can't simply let a castle or keep simply delete the static features or you'll likely have the entire landscape covered in them before too long, but keeping them in place causes issues with the custom house.

I wouldn't hold my breath on customizable keeps or castles being on the list any time in the near (or further) future.
True, but they could offer different versions/builds that take up the same space, or they could give a general template and allow the customization of parts (ie- 12x12 chunks).

Where have you been?

They've been fixed and working since 2005, if not earlier - at least for travel between T2A & the surface world. I know the fix pre-dates ML, but can't remember if it was before SE.

BTW, the booster also includes one use (that stacks with existing ones) of the bank box and housing storage upgrade, which means that $10 of the $15 is effectively going for that, and only $5 of it for the new content.

There will be a lot of people that will buy this just for that and the new boat-related content, that will probably never pick up a fishing pole.

Yeah, you're right, I think someone said 20% storage increase in storages. Based on an acct that already has the 1st 20%, makes that Approx 3508 for an 18x18,correct? Yeah, i'd pay for that, alone.

I had a stroke last Feb2 (on my wedding day), & my coping/problem solving skills kinda went down the crapper.

Im sure it will stack but I think Frodo's point is that a lot of people wouldnt be prepared to pay $19.99 for bank and housing storage increase alone but would be tempted for $14.99 with the ship booster thrown in to boot....

How about offering a discount if you've already purchased it once? Like $5 for each additional account. Same thing for SA. Just a thought.

The problem with multi-discounts is that people will abuse it, just like everything else. One person will start it and then get cheap upgrades for their friends.

You got it. For $30 I will kick up both my Keeps to 60% and bank storage to 175. Hope they keep doing this with all booster packs.

Hopefully it will be available by people for gold. I refuse to pay cash. Still don't think im going to pay for it anyway. I like my multiple ships to recall from one side of the ocean to the other while doing mibs so I don't have to travel the slow way. I also enjoy holding those 125 mib per ship without fear of being robed they are locked for a reason. So I don't beleive this is a enhancement worth paying for more like a weird nerf.

I suspect we'll have a beta forum dedicated to it when it hits open beta. Then after that the fishing forum can be used.

I "believe" that during the Q&R it was stated that all players (upgraded or not) will be bound to the one ship (plus a skiff) deployed rule and that this is why they will be providing a game mechanic that will auto pack-up, WITHOUT the loss of items in the hold, of all boats prior to the live release.

If I muffed the statement please let me know and I will edit this post so as not to cause confusion. Hope not. A forced nerf then. Ships need to be manualy refreshed I have losed a great deal of mib like that. The ships are parked in the high seas the only way it blocks anybody is if there not looking. It's pretty empty out there anyway. I can spend a long time out there without running into another soul.

Ship disapearing very bad.Why would i want my crafter on a ship? So let me see 2 accounts 14 characters leaves me with 14 spots to place around the world . Give keys to fisher and of I go. i guess I can work around that. Should cover middle right left upper down and the edges.

They really got to stop letting PVP mess up with PVM and trammel activities or they going to end up with nobody left in the game. A game wide siege and felluccia emptyness.

thanks for once again not doing things to help the ones who pvp and have been doing it since day 1. so many things need nerfed and or balanced yet you do nothing.

gets old so frustrating i have my 2 accounts one of which is beta 156 months old. why we do we even play anymore? no im not quitting but do they ever wonder why the player base is so far down?

so so so so so many have deactivated and quit cause of the same ole trammy shiat over and over.

Canary is right in that UO has ALWAYS had an issue of "half-done and abandoned" stuff, but I think most of that tends to be due to the upper management changing directions on a dime all the time. Sucks but there it is.

No, no apologies for my earlier statements on sea travel and the 2d client since the Devs themselves said that very thing.

I'm glad a later team has been able to update things (though to be fair, we don't know how smooth it will be in 2d vs the EC based on the EC video) to make it work though.
Iirc the issue they had previously regarding boats was that boats are treated like houses. They are stored on the housing server. When a boat moves, it actually requires updating the boat's position and facing to the housing server. Sort of like a house that moves. That explains the jerkiness associated with moving boats.

I suspect that they are revamping this and moving boats out of the housing server now and will treat it like normal dynamic objects. That would explain why it is so much smoother. And since this is revamping how boats are treated, the smoother boat movement will apply no matter which client you use. Ie it is not just an EC thing.

*scratches head* Well, I'm extremely happy about this. I've been gleeful about it since they announced it. But... now I'm confused.

Some people are complaining they're releasing this booster instead of fixing older bugs. Admittedly, if the devs gave everyone free icecream, some people would complain they didn't like the flavour, and if the devs gave everyone a cowpat some people would thank them. We are the original MMORPG community, and are a very mixed bunch. That said... ship movement is a 13-year-old bug that those who use the sea for non-storage reasons have been begging at least four different dev teams to fix. It's one of THE oldest bugs.

We might have had it instead of Mondain's Legacy, and I've been waiting for this to be announced since I filled out the survey about it YEARS ago.

I've stoned my GM fishing back onto my mage ready and waiting. My first ever GM skill.

The only down side I can see is the ship choices. Gargish, Tokuno and Orcish? No Britannian ships?

I thought the boat jerkiness was caused by the boat teleporting from tile to tile? from one 8x8 group to another, but that makes sense too

Think it would take away from the fantasy part of the game. Gargoyles with uzi's?
I think viking type bad guys would be better but I know absolutely none of the old lore so I don't know if they fit.

Actually, I was referring to Draconi's post last week about the fact that no server backups exist prior to the AoS era. And that the classic sharders blatantly ignored what he said. Not the hemorraging of subs "in the six figures range," which if you bother to think critically could be as little as 100K. 100,000 = six figures!

I have always stated that restoring old codes from backup is not the way to do this. Search my posts if you do not believe me.

Now, if you want to take Draconi's post as justification, take a look at the rest of what Draconi says.



lack of source code won't prevent designers from designing.

I've always felt that UO's direction lay looking forwards, but I never saw why the classic ruleset couldn't be a part of a forward looking vision

That's actually a very good idea! Does less damage, but uses wood to repair instead of iron.

Harpoon might be nice too. For whale/kraken/scalis hunting. Once hit, the mob cannot move more than 2 tiles away from the ship and cannot dive underwater.


Extra thoughts, elven and human(britainnian) ships.

Also, they should be called Frigates. Rowboats should be called skiffs. ItKs lore.

Also, wheel of the hms cape artifact. Maybe the mini artie anchor can be used somehow as well.
