You need to take what you read on Stratics with a huge grain of salt. On my shard, Catskills, when I was playing the event there were maybe two tamers with greater dragons, and far more non-tamer spawner templates.Disheartening...
Not enough spawn and covered in Greater Dragon pets... and here I THOUGHT I might check it out tonight... now, not so sure.
Bleh, if true.![]()
To be quite honest I'm 100% against Greater Dragons being in the game as tamable pets. That goes for Cu Sidhe having healing as well. Fire and Forget pets are bad, they promote maximum reward for minimum activity. Against High End mobs they are worthless, other than as a meat shield, against low to mid end spawn like the Ophidians they are devastating and are totally not suited for use during an event like this their strengths outweigh any negatives in this case and nothing was put in place to balance them. You need to take what you read on Stratics with a huge grain of salt. Again, greater dragons are a big fat target that certain people love to shoot at. I also love it when tamer haters start off their rants against tamers with, "I'm not anti-tamer, I play one myself."
Again, you will do far better in the event if you don't choose a tamer with a greater dragon. Sampires will do better, and any non-tamer template that does well in the Riktorr (spelling?) spawn will also do better in this event than a tamer with a greater dragon.
And there are far more effective pet choices than greater dragons for tamers as well in this event. If you see a lot of greater dragons there is a good chance you are seeing a lot of less experienced players who aren't getting as many points as most of the others playing the event.
I'm jealous, you are clearly a more accomplished tamer than I. I've never been licked by a yak. I was bitten by a mildly poisonous snake once though... But that still doesn't beat a yak licking...To be quite honest I'm 100% against Greater Dragons being in the game as tamable pets. That goes for Cu Sidhe having healing as well. To top is off yesterday I got licked by a Yak....
Which got me to thinking, why don't we have Yak running around in UO?
Oh I do agree that things all the way around are too easy vs the Ophidians at least in this event, and I'll give it to you that a Decent Sampire is the way to go, but with them you still have to do more than set guard cast an Earthquake then invis or for some hide... They require much more attention than tamers do and to be quite honest I complain about anything people show up with Greater Dragons at. They are horrible, horrible pets bettle/kitsune out damages them, but requires more effort since you actually have to vet them if they get ganged up on. My complaint about Greater Dragons is more that they promote maximizing reward for minimal effort, they are totally imbalance factors in most aspects of UO.I'm jealous, you are clearly a more accomplished tamer than I. But any advanced pvm template is devastating against mid to low end spawn. I'm not sure I understand why you are singling out greater dragons.
Why wasn't something put in place to balance advanced mages, or necros, or mystics (although you did complain about them as well, I'll give you that), or sampires, or... or... A tamer with a greater dragon doesn't dominate low to mid level spawn any more than any advanced pvm template does.
I took my tamer to the event with a beetle and a mare, but to to be perfectly honest, I would have done better with my lumberjack with a reptile or ophidian slayer. I didn't take my tamer because my tamer is "easy mode", I took my tamer because I enjoy playing a tamer.
not all war is fair and equal, perhaps the bane chosen are just better than the ophidians, initially. Its still easier to kill the ophidian side than the bane side. Repond isn't enough. You need to mix in non-reptile monsters (or a berserker or two) with the ophidian side to match the fact that the bane side has non-reponds. Sure we can kill the human ones just as fast as the ophidians can be killed now, but then we hit a massive speed bump with the high HP hell hounds and annoyingly tough bane dragons that is pretty damned difficult to recover from unless we have about 20 or so people fighting, if not more. And we never do. Because everyone is killing the ones that are easier to kill.
Well, I managed to die once, and bought both my beetle and my mare one death robe each... or death carapace and mane...Oh I do agree that things all the way around are too easy vs the Ophidians at least in this event...
I totally agree with this. If you couldn't transfer to or from Atlantic, more shards would have higher population, and people who did want to play Atlantic would have to start new characters, which in my opinion would be a good thing, as there would be more "beginner" characters that could hunt together, fight together, gain skill together. Right now its basically impossible for a person to make a fresh start on Atlantic. Theres really only established guilds, and most are pvp oriented or rp oriented. Theres really only 1 decent pvm guild on the shard (i dont count the syndicate because of their strict guild policies, deceptive propaganda)Can you imagine the heart attacks if this happened? While Origin has a publish that hasn't gone to any of the other shards yet, you can't transfer from or to Origin. Imagine the cries of outrage if Atlantic was left off the shard transfer list for even a day, let alone a week.
To be honest it would probably do the shard some good. It's over crowded.
So basically your post was a veiled attack on Greater Dragons, not an event feedback...gotchaTo be quite honest I'm 100% against Greater Dragons being in the game as tamable pets. GD's are fine, they're 5 slot pets and you can't even ride them and they do terrible damage compared to other pet combos.
Problem I was seeing folks having was tames using AoE spells to concentrate the spawn then when 2-3 GD's get on it no one else can target because all the mobs were obscured by the mess, leaving the mob to be wiped out by the GD's.I'm not sure what shard the majority on here play on... but I can tell you that on Napa... the Archers and Sampires are the killing machines. I don't even have time to hit the "All kill" button before they have cleaned up. And there were two GD's there last night... they were having the same issue.
When an Archer can one shot an Ophid and take over half it's life... while my Dread is trying desperately to get enough pts on it for me to gain loyalty... I have to disagree with the "tamers dominating the spawn" mentality. I am just barely over 1000 pts now... and I did this spawn over and over last night.
On the last wave... I never get a single loyalty pt... too many Archers and Warriors there and everything is dead before I can get more than a couple of hits in. Even keeping an EV casted did not help...
So.. no... a tamer could never dominate this spawn with all the other templates there one hitting for the majority of each creatures pts. I did notice one trend starting late last night... the Archers hit everything once... so they get each kills pts... GOD I wish I had an archer. Too bad I don't like playing one...
SO... Rock on Archers and Sampires... lol It just means I have to do the spawn a few more times than them.. ok.. well.. a lot.. but this doesn't bother me. I'm sure Mythic will allow this to run long enough for everyone to get what they want.![]()
They do but it's a case of a being almost too late. So many folks threw in with the Bane killing Ophidians few are willing to change sides. From what I've seen before most folks can get Bane up to middle of the 2nd wave then the Ophidians have been pushed back starting it over at wave 1.Not sure if repond slayers now work with the bane killing, I'll try that in a bit.. but I see the Banes still attack your pets.. disappointing.
WOW! That's crappy... well then please yell out "Greedy Player!" Because not all tamers do this... and the GD can only do what the player tells them to. That's part of the reason why I chose to take my Dread and leave the GD in the stable. I try to never monopolize a spawn.Problem I was seeing folks having was tames using AoE spells to concentrate the spawn then when 2-3 GD's get on it no one else can target because all the mobs were obscured by the mess, leaving the mob to be wiped out by the GD's.
There is another thread on that topic. Marc said he would check back with it but I don't think he's done so yet. There are a TON of replies there stating their Bane loyalty number and what pet was used. I can't remember if you posted there or not. I hope they fix this soon... I ghosted my Dread a few times yesterday due to this... can't handle getting attacked by 3 3rd tier mobs... and several Bane... ugh!but I see the Banes still attack your pets.. disappointing.
The same could be said about sampires and 50 other playstyles, including high damage tamers. You really weren't looking to give feedback, only moan about GDs.Basically it's an opportunity to point out how when they design global events they aren't considering balancing play styles.. Greater Dragons being as commonly used as they are make them an easy target.

Can I point out that the "Bane-Chosen" are murderous rogues? And have you ever raided the lands of the Ophidians? I'm not saying you have, but all is not as simple as a personal vendetta, sometimes.I wouldn't mind seeing the Ophidians boosted up a little for the higher levels but I could never side with them no matter what.
Those reptilian bastards raided my fair Vesper years ago. I shall never fight for them.
I am giving them a fair chance however.
With exception to a slayer weapon and the special move that comes with it I am using nothing but sheer brawn.
No chivalry, no bushido, no necromancy, no magic of any sort. Just my sword and my shield and a deep profound dislike for ophidians![]()
They need to scale the spawn based on numbers. Unless you have a very advanced character, and you are very good at playing that character, you simply won't get any loyalty points if there are a lot of people on. I've been trying to help a less advanced player with that problem, and I know it is frustrating.I definitely see that some people play in a very selfish manner. Some people don't. I played the invasion alot yesterday. It wasn't until the evening, when 2 people on our shard, in particular, EQ, EV's and wither.. I could not even get kill rights on 1 target and they were dropping the entire group. Its worthless to play around with people like that.. some were even in my alliance.. which makes me question how "cooperative and teamplayer" I want to be with them in the future. Most of these players NEVER even bothered to loot their kills. At least it was profitable for me to go back and collect all their blackrock.
The more I play the war, the more frustrating and NOT fun it is.
Same old problem, unbalanced as ever. Until they realize that the most fun thing to do in this game has this problem, and it's because they cater to powergamers with extreme's in power differences, it won't change. They need to scale the spawn based on numbers. Good idea and doable, as demonstrated by the Doom Gauntlet. If there are 20+ players in the area, most casting AOE spells, it is hard to find anything to kill. They need to scale the spawn based on numbers.

It's over an hour (actually it might be 90 minutes) since this began and I asked him to stop, and I'm still #6 in the queue on Sonoma..... I guess someone is just reeeeeally stuck in a wall!
Not really complaining here, but making a point : In UO, the bad guy(and I don't mean the good kind of bad guy) exploits, breaks game mechanics, chases paying subscribers away.... and gets away with it.
