Accelerated Gains: Would this concept be a welcomed change for Siege? I'm looking for something that Siege can offer players that other shards cannot.

I'm not talking about my previous post. I'm talking about the possibility of doing away with RoT or at least the caps and gaining at the rate you would in a blackrock area. [.01 to .05]

So in essence, UO would offer two types of skill gain systems in wich the tradeoffs make sense.

Guaranteed Gain System [Prodo] - Slower skill gain, but they get insurance and the safety of Trammel.

Accelerated Gain System [Siege] - Faster skill gain, but no insurance, no safety except the guardzones.

Just trying to guage how receptive we are to bigger changes... after July. :)

Your poll options are ambiguous. They are made further unclear by your description of the Accelerated Gain system as modifications to the current ROT (removing daily caps). I do not know which way to vote.

Your previous posts described a much more appealing system.
1. Keep the current ROT, but remove the daily caps (this will already make most skills faster to gain than production shards, especially at higher levels).
2. Add an accelerated gain area (not neccesarily the old blackrock area), but a build up another area that has more amenities for training all skills (possibly extend it to some of the dungeons).
This is an excellent idea. Why are you so quick to abandon it?

Edit: Any changes to the skill gain system (regardless of how it is changed) should be accompanied with a name change. The name ROT will still carry the same stigma. Most will not realize it is something new, if it has the same name (it's a common marketing ploy).

I don't have all the answers. Just tossing out some ideas.

It hasn't been abandoned at all. I would love to see some, if not all of those ideas implemented. I am simply tossing out another idea, since no one else is bothering.

OH I absolutely agree 100% with this! Not only that, but any changes to Siege should, at some point, be announced/promoted to the UO community.

*looks at pile of tokens* Are advanced character tokens out of the question?

I suppose not, but then immediately, RoT kicks in, which is what new or potential incoming players complain about the most. Unless we are willing to accept change, this shard will not change and it will continue to die.

And it seems Siege players are steering this shard straight down that path. :(

*smiles* When some one told me advanced character tokens worked, I said no way... I then tried and made a tamer. It worked, it was stupid easy to work skills from there.

I still have no skill at being a tamer. It was easy to to GM though.

The tokens were turned off as it was not intended for Siege. Could they be turned back on?

I say no to advanced char tokens.. this is not an easy shard.

Modified RoT to remove caps yes.. easy-buttons no.

That is exactly the attitude thats killing Siege. If we don't wake up and listen to what new players and potential players are saying, we're sunk.

Seems all of you are quick to forget this, but Cal did say that the last round of RoT changes did NOT bring an increase in players.

This is to Kelmo's and Kat's response..

Advanced char tokens were a bane on all of UO.. do you really want them here? It is easy enough on all shards to get to 70 in any skill.

Do you both honestly think that this one thing is holding people back? Siege needs secondary housing, cap removal on RoT.. this is what will bring players. Not easy-buttons for people with outdated advanced char tokens (can't we turn them in?)

Knowing that the guard zones are finally back on, being able to choose a starting city.. Being on the shard list for newbies (with the appropriate warning).

You're all losing your ambition.

Sorry Sweeny... Time equals money. Some of the coding you are asking for is expensive. The housing thing? Give it up. It is not happening. We are not a seperate game. Any change here bleeds over.

Give it up on RoT. They changed it already... Don't ask them to go through that again.

I have been thinking advanced tokens because they worked once. Many of us have them.

Short of that, I will fall back to Petra's idea of duping naked characters here. No items... just skills.

I am very well versed in coding Klmo (sorry did I forget an e?) and it does not take much effort to change a few numbers when it comes to RoT limits. There are many, many coders who play this game who will agree that changing the RoT limits takes less time than a lunch break.

The starting city, everyone have bitched about this since it was first messed up (I wanted to start in Trinsic 2 years ago) It sucks knowing every newbie starts in Brit Inn (well maybe not now since it's a GZ).. but players need the option of starting where they choose (I don't know if this has been changed.. but when I started everybody was forced to start in Brit East Inn.)

I'm with Sweeney on this; my line to it: time spent = reward

What people are striving for on prodo (or have to to stay on par with there shards fellow players [and here we have the same problem with faction arties]) is low time invest, big reward - that's the difference to real life most of the time.
I don't want everything to be easy as I'd quickly lose my interest in it.
Please stay with the (old) Siege spirit on it - about the shard dying; this shard is as much dying as each prodo shard is sadly.
So we'd need to make it more attractive than prodo shards are even.
We get new players looking into the chat and supporting them day by day.

Let's make the best of what we got and try to push it within our own possibilities. Support by the Devs would be very welcome but if it won't full-fill the needs I don't want to drop the game for good.
Uo is a game made by its players and with the Siege community we have some of the best ones!

Indeed. If you're not having to rewrite the formulas themselves, implementing the changes would only require changing a variable.

RoT, Bank Box size, Second Character slots ( or any number ), Treasures of Tokono, Blackrock, drop rates, cursed artifacts, Faction silver costs, etc... can all be manipulated by changing a simple variable or by uncommenting a block of code or function call.

Assuming the programmers do neat work in the code and comment what each piece is, it should be very easy for them to locate the code and adjust it.
