Newbie Sampire Mana Issues

Hi, I'm having issues with mana in bigger fights. Went last night to Doom with my guild, and was constantly running out of mana on the DF. Regen was horrid. I don't have any mana regen on my suit (yet) but I do have 42% HML on my weapon, which hits pretty regularly. (3s speed, 30 SSI, 100ish Dex)

So, I'm wondering where I'm going wrong here. My armor is all 70s, 65 DI, 30 SSI, 45 DCI. Included artifacts: Aegis of Grace, Midnight Bracers, Elf Fey Leggings, Stormgrip. Also have a Woodland Chest (Mage Armor, nice resists) and Horned Leather Mempo. Still missing a nice talisman :/

Do I need to fit some Focus or something into my template? Current is:

Necro 80 (100 w/ Bracers)
Swords 120
Bush 100
Tactics 120
Parry 120
Chiv 60
Anatomy 100
Total: 700 (account is only a year old)

What jewels are you wearing? I think we need to get you some jewels/armor with lower mana cost. 40 lmc would b optimal, but even just 20 would make a big difference.

kk, I posted on UWF forums. Someone should be able to help. I can help eventually, but I'm not supposed to look away from papers/finals this weekend or next, lol.

Cool...and on a side note, I just relized I posted this on the Atl. Forums and not the warrior. Wow, massive fail on my part!

Get honor in, get as much LMC as you can. Really, really helps with the mana drains.
I've got the full 40 on my suit, all imbued and I never have a problem with mana.

First off our resists as mentioned are WAY outta wack, So is your gear in general and even your skills would benefit from some tweaking.

First off When building a Sampire you have to pay attention to Fire Resist, Tons of Monsters focus on Fire Damage, so do many of the Magery Spells they will be bombing you with. My advice?

Lower Tactics to GM, Raise Necro to 100, Ditch the Bracers, and start your new suit with a Rune Beetle Carapace, and Royal Leggings of Embers this will get you off in the right direction in LMC and Fire Resist, then build from there in Gloves, Sleeves, Gorget, and Helm Slot. I prefer Mace and Shields for the Helm slot myself, though Folded Steel Glasses would work as well in the Helm slot. I also made sure my Sampire was an Elf the extra mana bonus is a huge perk. Don't worry about Artifacts making up your suit, they don't make a "Better" suit by tossing as many as you can at it, you'll do much better by using them to compliment good pieces players have crafted. For a Tali I'd look at a Primer on Arms and Damage Removal, good Tali, get 20DI on it. For Jewelry, make friendly with your local imbuer, have him custom make a set. For mine I use 13/13 DCI/HCI, 22 DI on each piece and then shore up resists a bit with the other spots. I use 13/13 and 22 because then Relic Frags are the only "rare" resource I really need to obtain. Still with the DI From the weapon a primer on arms tali and that from Jewelry you'll be pushing Cap DI.

I know this is a odd option, but it's something me and some friends have started doing, We've Dropped Parry! Stoned it off, and replaced it with healing. Guess what in PvM I haven't noticed any difference in how often I'm hit, but I am noticing how much having that 4 healing method is helping (Confidence, Leeches, Healing, Chiv). I'm not saying do this, but it's an option to look at if you have a couple of Soul Stones you can use to experiment with.

Weapons! Not all weapons are created Equal! Even with the same Swing Speed. I'm a macer, and I only use Diamond maces for him, I try and find weapons with at least 40 DI, and HML and HSL around 50% or better. You live off leeching more than anything it's what keeps your health up. But if you take damage your stamina drops, sure you can carry red pots, or use Divine Fury, but I like Hit Stam Leech on a weapon, it's less I have to carry, and less I have to worry about when fighting. Find the weapon with the best Damage Range/Swing Speed ratio you can get with the mods you want. Once again making friends with an Imbuer can help with this.

I'm running full 70's in resists while in Vamp form, with 50 Mana Leech, and high Damage Inc. Have not quite 40 LMC on my suit. I carry some LRC or Arcane gear in my pack if I die to get back in Vamp Form, so I don't worry about LRC on the suit.

Thanks Nexus, I made those adjustments. I'm looking at getting a weapon imbued for me...wondering if it's good or not.

Bokuto, Exceptional
DI 40
HCI 15
HML 44
HSL 40
HLD 40

Figured one handed for pot chugging if needed...and will hit at swing cap with my dex. Good or no?

why is it almost everyone is hung up on using lmc? my samp has 0 lmc and i never run out of mana. on a human sampire, with 44 hml on all my weapons. i have like 47 mana max and never get below 20 before it jumps back to full again.
im always in vamp form, running a suit with all 70's 45 dci and hci, tons of stam inc and some str bonus on the jewels. and my suit is mostly artis except arms and gloves which i made myself with imbuer.

Get a whirlwind weapon if its hard to keep mana, whirlwind when low, should be back to full after one unless you guys use a bone cutter when doing Doom.

It sounds like its not a "mana" issue as such but a damage issue, how much are you hitting for?

As Aceheart said, i have 68 as an elf and i NEVER run out, only time its an issue is with mobs that mana drain but it only last a few seconds so i hit evade till im full again.

Im hitting everything i kill for 60-120 and if i get honour off, 120-240, and with 60 HML i dont have an issue.

It sounds like your not hitting for enough that's why your leech's are so low and not returning enough [goes for life and stamina as well]

Yeah, my hit chance isn't the best...I'm not 120 swords yet. Speaking of swords...which is typically better to use? I keep seeing people talk about using feint, so i was going to imbue a bokuto (see above post) but now whirlwind has been brought up...erg.

Hate to ask (cause i know someone will say yes) but should I make two weapons...one for feint and one to whirlwind if in a group fight?

Try a daisho for Feint, and yes, you'll want a separate Whirlwind wep, which is normally the radiant scimitar.

A bokuto has lower damage than a dagger thats probably something to do with it.

For Feint people usually mean Daisho & Leafblades.

I also run with virtually no lmc on my sampires. I believe your biggest problem is your armor and weapon, your weapon is not hitting hard enough and fast enough to leech mana back for you. Furthermore, your resists are pretty poor on the suit. You'll need better, but fortunately it's cheap to put together. For a weapon, try getting a nice radiant scimitar with 25-30 ssi for whirlwind, a 30 ssi daisho for feint, and a nice set of 30 ssi rune blades. Lots of folks like and use ornates, but you must have max stamina to swing them at cap. I think the run blades work almost as well and take less stamina, making the suit easier to put together. JMO.

Good thing I didn't make that bokuto yet.

Alright, since I can't fit SSI in with the imbuing I was going to do, should I just drop the HLD in favor of SSI? Looks like I can fit 25 SSI in place of the 40 HLD on Daisho and / or Scimitar.

Depending on your stamina i wouldnt bother with SSI on a radiant schimiter, use this calculator to see if you need to add SSI and how much.

http://uo.stratics.com/content/arms-armor/arms.php

I have a range of radiant schimiters for different jobs, same as i have lots of diffferent daisho's and ornates. They all usually have HML/HSL/HLA/DI and for ornates SSI but on daisho's i have slayer as thats when i use them most for bosses to faint, on radiants i have hit area to assist the wirlwind.

Also if you have a smith burn all your dull and shadow hammers to try get weapons with 100% fire/poison/cold/energy damage and imbue them aswell, it makes life SO MUCH easier not having to cast consecrate and wasting mana.

E.g. I use 100% energy damage daisho's with dragon slayer/HSL/HML/HLA/DI for paragon balrons, putrifier and renound wyvern.

I use some LMC but not much just what the RBC gives. That little bit extra is always nice when something mana drains me and I'm leeching back a bit at a time. It lets me get back into spamming Lightning Strike a touch earlier than without it.

If you are using Swords definitely consider an Ornate Axe, yes it's two handed so no pot chugging, but it is the best Damage per second weapon in the game. Just try and get as much SSI on it as possible along with your leeches... With Max SSI it's not slow, but but exactly server cap either, still the damage output will make up for the loss of speed.

Like I said I'm a macer and use Diamond Maces, they are pretty much Third Best Damager per Second weap in the game. I've been soloing Medusa recently and regularly hit her for 180 damage with my Repond, 50 HML 50 HSL 30 SSI weapon.

might have just been mana vamp/drain, those undead casters love to do that

try again against melee only mobs and see if you have the same mana issues.

i havent been on my sampire in a month, but my recollection is that with decent hml you shouldn't need to go more than a couple swings between weapon specials, even with a tiny mana pool...
