Should repair deeds restore item uses?

A simple argument..

When a weapon or armor is repaired.. it is restored to 100% (or minus a point) based upon the repair deed used.

Should not the same logic be applied to item uses?

This won't harm Siege at all.. if a player loves his (dagger, knife, etc) he/she/it will be able to repair it to 100% (or less if the repair fails) of uses. The item will still deteriorate. Unless the person uses PoF on it.. in which case the economy of Siege benefits. This will also boost the price of repair deeds.

Recent event items were specifically tailored to Production shards with infinite uses, however on Siege they are near worthless as they have finite usability.

On a fourth thought, this may be more complicated than first imagined, since BS tools can be used as weapons. I was thinking mainly of dagger and such used to gather leather, feathers, etc.

An exception would be required for BS runics.

Assuming care is taken not to create any exploits in the process.

Maybe Mel's hatchet would actually be used by somebody then.

Thing should wear out and break. Chainsaw blades wear out, Sawzall blade wear out. If you kept your tools forever why would you need to buy or make more. It isn't like pre seige bless where you would lose your PBD chopping wood. Votes No, Lets keep crafters working.

They still would wear out, as I'd assume they'd suffer the same durability loss on repairs.

Also, for general tools, it's probably a lot less hassle to actually wear them out than it would be to run and repair them each time. But if I can use a dagger to stab 1000 newbs between repairs, why does that same dagger fall apart if I skin 200 deer with it with no chance of repair?

Because your dagger used to stab is a quick in and out motion, to skin a deer you have to cut the skin off the flesh and cut all the meat off the bone. One deer skinning is worth 2000 nub stabs.

Exactly. I believe the uses should be tied directly to durability!

Whether you're skinning animals or hacking away at them, the blade is going to get dull at the same rate ( cutting flesh ). Maybe it needs to be calculated the same way durability is and do away with displayed uses altogther on weapons ( not items such as carpentry tools, sewing kits, lockpicks, etc... ). This will allow you to use the weapon to cut hides and not worry about it breaking ( which really makes no sense that a 255/255 durability item would break because you skinned an animal ), it would simply have maybe a 10% chance that it loses durability, causing you to need to repair / resharpen the weapon more often, like attacking slimes!

Everybody's priorities will be different.

I guarantee you that if we could find the two biggest problems with Siege, and have 100% support for both, they'd never get fixed because only 50% would agree on which should be done first and vote no on the other.

Agreed, but a 10 minute fix wont interfere with the major fixes that need to be worked on, that would take several hours of recoding and discussion.
This is definitely not going to be a 10 minute fix. If it was something as simple as durability repair = use repair, it would/should be. But you have runics to consider and there may be other implications no-one has yet thought about.

That being said I like your idea of basically getting rid of 'uses' and tying it into the weapons durability, which wouldn't be a 10 minute fix either.

There needs to be another option, I'm all for 'yes' but not in the current system.

Ah! Good catch! How many uses does those runics have at max? More than 255?

Just make them the same way except don't allow them to be repaired, or use PoF on them. You can use them to fight, but you're losing durability and crafting uses.
