Discussion: "Old school" junk jewelry and items with spell charges on them.

I would like some discussion on what could be done with the collection I seem to have of "old school" junk jewelry, armor, etc, which has spell charges on it.

I estimate that I have several containers worth of this "old school" stuff which currently is useless to me, as either armor pieces have resists that are very crap resists which are less powerful than current newbie armor or the item has little or no remaining charges that don't work now.

I would like discussion and thoughts from posters here that might get EA/Mythic interested in revitalizing "old school" armor and making it worth spawning again either as loot for some kind of quest with a decent type of reward at the end or making it actually worth owning and using on a character template again.

One remote possibility they might want to try is to look at bringing "old school" items up to par with current magic items and the ranges of properties that can spawn on them.

At the moment the "old school" items are really only a collector's item, and can't even be unraveled for any kind of imbuing ingredient.

Perhaps with some new craftable, they could become a spawning item again, and be made into a unique kind of housing defense system whereby the owner of a house that has something with these items on or in it which could defend the owner from wandering monster attacks by simply repelling them from the immediate vicinity of the entrance(s) of the house. (NOTE: Should not defend owners from attack by players or their pets in Felucca, and should only work on monsters not engaging any player character which has no access if in Felucca. Perhaps it should be just a deco item in Felucca.)

It might even be possible to make an item that can replenish the charges of the armor if house defense systems were to be made possible.

It would be cool to be able to use Imbuing + Item ID to remove and infuse the special property onto current weapons, armor, and clothing.

You can sell Teleport and Invis items for good price to PvPrs...

Recharging theese items with the same tool as the tallies would make charged items something special after imbuing them. The spell reflection would be the big winner. Very few those left. Bless charged is another of theese items with a history. Not like the recharging tool is no small pain in the ass to make. And charged items go through charges like a gamer goes through energy drinks or coffee. Would be a great market for the rechargers.

So spell reflection still works? Interesting...

Not sure on that. Not to sidetrack the thread been years that I used them in fel. Was fun using them vs the hacks that chained flame strikes at a dead run.

I know they can be imbued just to check yet if the charged ability cost as a mod. Still thrilled to find bag the old 25%DI Tribal Spears. They can be imbued and enhanced unlike the present 20%DI ones.

Still waiting for the story about how somebody danced on someones corpse after owning them with an imbued +60 ASH or runic hammer.

I don't think the spell reflection ones still work though. Sure they use up the charges but no spells actually reflect back on the caster. I know the teleport and invis items still work.

I just checked one which had 80 charges of night sight on it. Selecting to imbue night sight was both possible and did not say anything about the charged properties being selected as a property for which night sight would be a replacement.

The ultimate imbuing challenge: Imbue night sight onto something which already has 80 charges! :coco:

My theory is that EA/Mythic simply forgot competely about "old school" items which still exist to this day when they drew up the design document for imbuing. They no longer are even a spawning item let alone any use to anyone. It sucks that I have these very old items, pre-AOS, that are now just junk to be tossed to the winds of obsolescence.

Gosh... I have piles of this stuff. Alot of spell reflection, bless, invis, teleport and nightsight... charged items with strength, intel, or dex plus 10... and I was warned not to put them on as the mods will disappear. I don't want them to reissue these as usable... maybe instead just allowing what is already in game to be usable and recharged or adding them to some kind of spring cleaning would be nice as there seems to be an abundance of them on Napa.

I've got a few of those old school items. My main is a Paladin so I've been using the few teleport rings I have, I'll probably hold on to the Invisiblility Bracelet, it has something like 56 charges. I found an Item Identification Staff with about 108 charges on it. This thing seems completely useless. rolleyes: Of course, I have several wands with Heal, Greater Heal, Lightning, etc... I'll probably keep those also... for a rainy day...

me too

I've about quit worrying about rares since they now create things that will be rares. They are sorta like the post office.

Yea, like a couple of other people said you can get good prices for invis/tele items.

I've seen sets of ID items go for a good bit at auction before (2 mil? maybe a little more, usually for about 10 items of various charges), and I've seen some not bid on at all. Obviously it depends on who's there, what they're looking for, and how badly they want an item; but I thought it would be nice to share that there are still some people willing to buy those for a great price, considering the fact the charges are useless.

Although it would suck for the collectors, I wish they'd reinstate the invis, tele, & bless items so that I wouldn't have to feel a twinge of guilt every time I used one up.
