IDK who to send this to anymore. I'd like to know why my ping jumps to 150+ when I hit the ea.com servers.
IDK if you can see it I took a screenshot bc the boards wont allow the format. (or at least I cant figure it out)

Sorry it's such a blur. If someone could tell me how to format this properly...

Ultimately, all you can do is send in feedback on the performance with data.

This is probably something outside the dev team's direct control, but they can at least continue to push things along the chain ... as based on the reports we've seen over the months, it does look like some of you are hitting a bottleneck between Level3.net and ea.com (interesting, several other game companies have had similar complaints).

you should be able to use the copy command that is included with the program and then just paste into your post! I am glad I am not the only one having problems with connection it seems to be athe ea server or maybe 1 or 2 hops before !
I placed another post to see if i could get response from EA at least acknowledging there is a problem or that they are aware!

I don't actually think its ea problem but as you said they can contact the appropriate people and try to have it fixed ! If we were to call they would not do a thing!

I tried to copy and paste I assure you, but pasting into the stratics boards removes the spaces between the lines of information so it's just a jumbled mess.

I have pointed out before that Level 3's wan is **** and this is well known in the industry.

I have also pointed out here to no avail that traceroute is not a bandwidth measurement or performance analysis tool, it is a network cartography tool. Additionally, ICMP is often prioritized differently by border routers in a highly tuned network so ICMP echo latency is not necessarily reflective of performance.

The thing to do if you actually want to help the network engineers troubleshoot the problem is take a packet capture of an actual game session when the problem is manifest. Send the pcap with your note. The pcap will actually contain information useful for diagnosing congestion or aberrant latency.

Wireshark is available for windows and requires zero specialized knowledge. Download it, install it, run a capture, save the pcap and mail it.

maybe hit your printscreen key and then cut out the little box so it's actual size? (just guessing, Flutter, I'm worse at this stuff than you are)

Copy-paste should work, but surround it with code tags ( {code}...{/code}, but [ and ] instead of { and } ).

My ping to Catskills is normally 45-70ms with no packetloss.
While the 135 shown there doesn't sound bad, in pvp when your ping is jumping all over the place you do notice a difference. Especially playing against people who are running speeders. (which is almost everyone)
So I am stuck doing stuff in game when I'd rather be doing something else... or I could just run the same cheats my opposition runs.
I'm frustrated because I don't even know the right answer anymore.

I would personally wait for a request from the dev team for that level of detail ... if they aren't set up to analyze it, I'd worry you're just going to be dumping on Chrissay's disk quota as she tries to figure out where to store it.

(although it's possible that worrying about disk quotas may date me as a dinosaur)

Your first line of 100% packet loss is actually coming from your own ISP, unless I"m wrong, the line of packet loss is related to the previous hop??

Flutter you should run a poll instead of the trace route it can be performed with same program and let it run about 50 to 100 times to get a good average !
then it would be easier to see where the problem is ! but with packet l;oss right at the start as grey said it may in your case be your isp!

The lines that show 100% packet loss are irrelevant. They are just hops that are unpingable by the host.

The above is run for about 43.(note the packets sent/received column) I don't show any real packetloss until the 13th hop.

Anyone capable of configuring the gear they use can analyze the pcap.

The issue is that Level 3 is likely the problem, more properly the peering going on in that DC with Level 3 and everyone else. So, the issue is partially political.

The only way the EA engineers can get a resolution is with the technical data, which cannot be derived from ICMP tools to track packet routes and see if a host is up - the actual purposes of traceroute and ping.

It seems folk are more interested playing around and pretending than actually resolving the problem.

Which is also irrelevant. ICMP packet loss and latency is irrelevant to TCP connection problems.

Its typical to deprioritize, drop or rate limit ICMP in a network tuned for TCP connections of specific characteristics.

If you would pay attention to what I posted above you would find out that whatever the situation you could probably tune your TCP parameters to optimize your UO connection. It depends on your connection type and speed, platform, etc.

I should not bother, but:

Just to clarify, I was not discouraging your idea, my point was that if the team is not requesting detailed data, then you run the risk of it being just a lump of bits sitting in a mailbox ... I was just suggesting offering to gather the data first and then send it if/when they ask for it.

( nitpicking over the etiquette of providing data dumps is a bad habit I picked up in an old job )

*offers encouragement for you to continue helping*

pretty sure what we DO need is for the devs or someone to acknowledge the problem ! and then request whatever they need and I am absolutely positive the community here will get them what they want!
anyone happen to know who there is in charge of the department?

/Agree.
Sorry but all of what Thangorodrim is saying is Greek to me. None of that means a damn thing because I don't understand it. Ping, hops and packetloss I do understand, and I have it... and I can see from the trace where it is coming from. End of story.
I'd like to get some sort of word on this, even if it's just Chrissay saing "we hear you we are looking into it"
