GD Nerf is noticeable in pvm

I hadn't heard about the nerf so I tested it. I jumped a few dozen swoops tonight. I have several excellent GD's on various chars and one really really excellent one.

I didn't have any problems killing the swoop. I didn't have any problems healing the GD magically without using aids. PVM is about time basically. After you get past the "oh I just killed" insert whatever mob it is in this spot it comes down to how fast can you do it. It takes over a minute longer per swoop. It might even take 2 mins longer on some of them.

This might not even be noticeable for most people, but for me it means the GD's and the Swoop are done for a while. I saw the pvp people complain over and over about the bunch of tamers that kept killing them. I feel for them. but those same people will just find some other way of doing the same thing. That stuff will never change. Honestly, I make waay more money with mages than tamers anyway.

The trick to this game is very simple. You put a LOT of time in your chars. Then, you play whatever char is in power at that time. You put a LOT of money in your equipment, then you can be successful in whatever else you're doing.

The developers will always do something to keep you unbalanced from whatever you are doing. It comes back to the theory of the game they use as a model.

In conclusion the nerf isn't all that bad for the casual player.

Shouldn't your post title be "isn't noticeable" if your conclusion is most people won't feel effected? :p

I feel really bad that it takes 60 seconds for you to kill a swoop instead of 45 seconds. It's quite clear that this patch was a tragedy for yourself, and other tamers like you, that learned to master how to kill swoops with timing and real life skill.

I'd like to take this opportunity and start a petition. This patch is genocidal in a sense. It's killing all of us tamers that have relied on a 5 follower slot friend to do the playing for us. How are we going to get through the day when it takes 60 seconds to kill a swoop and it's not random insta-death on PvPers when we feel froggy?

Respond here if you're against the patch!

if you must do such sarcastic comments, read the text you are commenting and take the timings right. Nobody said, that it takes 45 or 60 seconds, somebody said, that it takes one or up to two minutes longer than before. (Which makes hunting this for some income really inefficient, given 3 demons, which together give the same gold, are taken down so much faster ...).
For sure sitting longer there waiting for a monster to fall makes the game more funny and enjoyable?

Okay so on my other tamer, I got this dragon he does 102.05-140.31 damage a hit. I kill a cow that has 5 physical resist, so the range is now 96.95-133.29 pre-change. Cow gets hit for 104. Another cow has 5 phys. I hit this cow for 132. Conclusion: I prefer eating poultry.

Now to try Swoop. 1,495 hit points and 77 physical resist. Damage range should be 23.47-32.27. 28 32 27 24 30 30 24 31 26 25 30 25 26 29 33 29 29 31 31 33 27 32 31 29 26 30 24. Damage range appears to be 24-33. Conclusion: OP and skeptics about Swoop are incorrect, unless 1,500 HP is the magic number. And Swoop + BBQ sauce = yum.

Now to try against a player. I have 70 physical so I should get hit for 30.62-42.09. 42 42 42 geez lol ok I'll probably die if I keep trying. Conclusion: No PvP change (although more testing should be done here).

Rotting Corpse. 1,200 hit points and 37 physical ... huh? I thought they were 1,500 ... I must have been thinking of Unfrozen Mummies. Hm anyway damage range is 64.29-88.40. 71 85 74 69 64 88 77 77 85 72.

Okay, what has more than 1,500 hit points ... Swoop can ... I'll try to get one out. 1461. Stuck. Grr. I'll continue once this one is dead lol.

Agh can't even loot it :) okay next one has 1,436. This might take awhile. There is a possibility that firebreath was tweaked? I'll let someone else test that if they want. 1,411? Okay, I give up trying to find a 1,500 swoop. I'll try a Lady M or something fun soon, or someone else can try to see if this was a change for high-end stuff, cause anything under 1,500 hp and people don't seem effected in this "nerf."

Has anyone tried using animals with pack instinct for PvP?? Hey at least we won't have to listen to the whiners cry about being too stupid to adjust to tamers anymore!

Well, it's not exactly slow for new UO Content, so I'm going to have to go with the bitter & twisted option.

I'm in agreement. I haven't really noticed a difference.

I put in a lot of time yes, but i've never changed my character according to the flavor of the month or poured tons of money into buying some sort of "suit" for him, and i'm certainly still successful.

Maybe you're just playing the game wrong.

As I believe that MMORPGs should be played "Multiplayer", and quite often my use of a greater as a tank to keep the damage off others, I could care less if solo kills take a little longer. If anything, the fights taking longer will allow my GD to get in more training time per creature, wasting less time tracking down respawns if it has a wide respawn area.

WOW Epic... because we needed to know that even the UO mods hate tamers. What is with this? Trying to start another "I hate tamers" thread? You rock! :twak:

Anyway... I noticed a difference doing Mel. Took longer and with the dragon doing less damage, she did more. BUT... in the end... it didn't affect the outcome. I agree that nerfing for PvP was needed... I just don't understand why everyone thought it needed a PvM nerf. I can assure you, the dexers and mages in my group get far more loot and drops than any of our tamers. Good thing they share!

Got to stop thinking that way. One day it will just be us 2 in UO and it will be pretty tuff trying to coardinate our times toghether :)
Besides always remmeber the RPG part. UO was meant for people to roleplay a character and you being the hero or villan of the story the rest of the characters are background which come in and help you on your goals or you be a loner that comes from the shadows to take on any opponent while the people cheer.

This may come as a surprise to you, but the trick to this game, for many players, is to play whatever characters they ENJOY, not what is "in power at that time". I put value and success as entertainment and fun and this does not require a lot of time, money or equipment.
