Assuming you're talking about SA and not the current live event ...
Sutek and his cluttered lab is deep within the abyss (gargoyle side, near the bottom of the map along the chasm between human/garoygle side).
(he's my favorite part of the expansion by the way)

I couldn't find it anywhere on the lower half of the Garg side. Using 2D, maybe it's not loaded.

Go as far south as you can then head for the chasm and you should find him.
It is a bit complicated to reach some back corners of the abyss for the first time ... heed Beastmaster's advice and keep an eye on your atlas to see what areas you have/haven't reached yet.

I did all that, and used the map in the post for maps here. I found the altar for sacrifices (didn't try), a small overlook area with a chest and backpack and some benches, searched the entire area. Everything south of the lava river. No Sutek, no messy lab, nothing to match your description. Strange.
Were you on the human side (snakes, slimes, silver tree) or the gargoyle side (wyverns, fire demons, mongbats+imps)?

I was on the west side, if there be a "west" in the abyss. Lots of snakes, yes.

Wonder if he will "link into" the current storyline. He was the one saving Dexter and Kronos´ notebook when they blew up that machine in Moonglow.
