Been playing off and on since '97 on my 1 account. The most I've ever had at once was about 12 million, mostly though stuff scavenged from IDOCs, and maybe 30-40 million in items/resources. I ended up spending almost all of my gold on a 120 magery and a 120 fencing scrolls. I managed to get a couple of those luck mempos from the Shadowlord event so if I am able sell one for a few million, I will probably spend it right away on some other 120 scroll(s). That's all I really look for nowadays anyway.
Oh I envy you how I wish my playlife on UO was just as uncomplicated.
Way to Go!!

Been playing since Dec 2000. Have gone threw NUMEROUS accounts and houses. Still have orginal account though. Currently on the shard i play me and my father own 4 castles( 2 fel and 2 tram) and a 16x18 vendor house inside Luna. I am a HUGE collector and anything that has a set, i have to have. All holiday sets, every vet reward, any bod rewards and so on. I love to collect. Also have over 20k of bods. I couldnt even put a number on what all we own. I do know that we have over 500mill throughout our 5 accounts right now, 100LRC with 70 resists suits and so on. I dont see richness as in gold, but what you have gotten out of this game and the friends ive made.

- EA/Origin, then EA/BioWare+Mythic, then EA/Mythic by my thinking.

So, I reckon it may be:
1 Sir Richard Garriott & fellows
2 insert EA corp.
3 Muzyka, Zeschuk, and Denton
4 Jacobs

I expect I may be wrong ;)

Well it is good to see that i am not the only mass account fool. I have 6 accounts. 4 castles and 2 18x18s right outside the Umbra Gate. When I started playing, the game had been on the shelves for 5 days. I quit playing for about 3 years, but a friend of mine kept my accounts active. When I started playing UO, I remember mining and smelting for hours to make enough gold for my first clasic small house. I GM inscription when not many people used the skill, and made a great deal of gold selling scrolls. When I left the game, I sold off all but 2 houses. I had about 1 million gold and could pretty much buy anything in the game I wanted to. When I returned I saw things on vendors for 20 million gold, and was shocked. In the 3 years I was gone, the UO economy went beserk. My million was worth about 100k and I felt pretty poor. I do not sell things but I do keep many things. I have rares from the beginning of the game, but refuse to sell any of them. Not sure if I am rich in gold, but I am rich in items and memories from the game. I totaled up my secured items the other day, and I am currently sitting at about 32k items. LOL The funny thing is that I have every thing organized between the castles and the houses, and can find pretty much what I want in a few minutes.

Does anyone else ever become a bit concerned when they see threads like this that ask people to talk about all their UO "valuables"? Every time I see a thread like this, I have to wonder who is taking advantage of it to try to identify someone new to try to hack for access to gold, rares, valuable house locations, etc.
No offense to the OP but threads like this should send up a red flag to others and should be deleted on the spot.

It does raise questions, but I think most people are paranoid enough to not open themselves up to getting hacked. For example, there is only one person in the whole of UO *wink* that knows more of my personal information than just my first name, and that info wouldn't help them to do anything regarding my account, or any other secure website. I think people that get hacked gave out some piece of information or clicked a link to something, whether knowingly or not, that enabled someone to figure out or obtain what they needed to know.
I agree with both posts. Rule of thumb - well placed paranoia regarding account security is a very good thing.

Also avoid making yourself a target if you can, eg by revealing how much you have. It might be a bit difficult for rares sellers and such that needs to have a public profile unforfunately, but there are still ways like adding a buffer account who will be the "face", who preferrably does not have access to the main account's house.

You have nothing to fear but FEAR itself.. :D
And me.........

But on a serious note, I've probably got about 25 million across 3 accounts, I'm not even concerned with the value of items, it all depends on the buyer...For example...I placed a Trammel Keep a couple years ago. I've been offered 500mil for it and turned it down. Does this make it worth more than 500 or even 500 mill? I've one of the "Large Smithy Shop" houses in Felucca, I was given it, because the original owner didn't want to see it fall being one of the last of it's type on Chessy. Does that make it worthless? No it means that I'm comfortable with what I have and that's good enough for me.

when I quit I sold everything except 50mil, my suits, and things of sentimental value. I walked away with $500 or so.(it was ok to sell for rl cash on stratics at the time) so if you say that it was 1mil = $1, at the time of me quitting I had about 550mil worth of stuff.

chump change to what all the dupers and scripters make though :/ they're the richest in all of UO.

Just hit 9 yrs with my acct... have a little over 200mill in bank right now. Most of that gold was made in the past 2 weeks selling new cloaks and mempos.
Before that, I had about 20mill and that's just because I sold a seahorse I fished up.
All in all, I have more gold than I can spend at the moment.

I do yes, i have 2 legend smiths & 6 from 100-110. I also know an item with 4-5 max properties, and 60-89 resists was made with a val hammer

That's basically what I was saying Butch. There is just no way to calculate uo wealth. For example we have 100 or so old slayer weapons that say "a magic weapon" plus normal stuff. Technically its worth a fortune, in reality its worth nothing at all.

My dad used to say something is worth what someone will pay you for it. That guy with the 20,000 real life dollars that got hacked might have in some imaginary dream world had 20,000 worth of stuff, but these days the rares market is shot. I mean people want things that help them get more things, or kill each other, not things that cost enough to buy a real life car. The old days of collecting in uo to get everything in the game are gone. NO ONE will ever have every item because they keep making tons of new stuff all the time.

It's like the US Mint. They create rare coins to sell them for giant profits. It's a plain scam.

Why will items be obsolete after SA?

Do they revert everyones account and remove all of their items?

unless they do that items and armor will still be worth somethin..

but if they make us have to play in 3d i dont care cuz im not playing anyway
Pretty sure the thinking behind this sentiment is something to the effect of: imbuing will let us create "custom" items; custom items will be superior to pre-imbuing items since we can pick the mods we want on them; old items will lose their value. I'm not in the SA beta, so I don't know, but I'd guess that it probably won't be quite that straightforward.
One diff is the imbued items will not be repairable, but the items are still sick. Getting the ingredients is a pain but overall it will devalue all other armor... at least in my opinion. I am curious to see what happens to the price of Val hammers. Something tells me they will bottom out in price.

just the items in Manticore's houses on Baja that are locked down, makes him the richest, imho. If we knew of the items that WEREN'T out for display, then it'd be a shoo-in....

In terms of richest in UO? Currently, I'd agree with the comments about dupers, considering they once deleted 15 trillion in duped gold at one shot. Who knows how much else is out there? After that would be brokers, and high-end collectors such as Manticore. I also agree that Hemisphere was probably the richest legitimate player of all time. He had very little gold, but probably 50-100bn in rares.

Hail Folks,

How doth one measure wealth? If beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, is not wealth similarly counted?

I began my Sosarian sojourn in October of 1997; one account and 5 characters. In time more accounts and many more characters followed.

Castles and Keeps, I have several. And while each is precious to me, all of them combined I value less than one smile, giggle, or LOL given me by friend or passerby.

Some know me as Elladan of Baja, others know my cousins, Dar of TOT or Aerown of S|A.

Sosaria has given me more than any measure of wealth. For it has given me friends, opportunities to give and share with others, and a seemingly limitless canvass upon which to paint.

Many would likely count me wealthy based upon real estate, items, gold, etc. And though I have many items, I deem my true wealth infinite and far beyond temporal pixels.

Thankfully, after 12 years I still have almost as many goals today as I did lo those 12 years ago when I logged in and created my first Character.

May each of you find your "wealth & riches" similarly.

Elladan of Baja

A friend of mine also suffered a huge loss in the game when a bunch of his collection was lost through an unfortunate turn of events while transferring his character to another shard.

At first he felt sorry and was about to quit. It was like crashing in the stock market. He was sulking for the hard years he spent putting his beloved rares collection together not to consider the time and real money he spent as well in game.

However the folks who took time to help and friends whom he met made him stay on to play. He realized that UO wasn't just a game after all it is a community as well.

In this case he too found out that as in RL no one man is an island in this game. I am quite sure he is feeling rich as ever.

The first time events in this game always beats the all the times happenings.

Who holds the most treasures?

After two years of playing UO so far my financial status in the game is as follows:

Number of Account Active: 1
Real Estate: a Castle
Loot/Hoarded Items/Rares: Below 30M GP
Gold in the Bank: Below 50M GP

In all intent purposes I am a happy yet very poor man in the game :D
Out of curiosity in order to set a ballpark bench mark on how much one should normally be having in terms of wealth in the game. May we be graciously shown a goal we can all hope to achieve as well?

In this regard can some of the 3-5 year veterans up give us a peek on just how much one should be worth after the number of years played more or less?

For Instance:

2 years of play (My example)
3 years of play (Millionaires Club)
4 years of play (Billionaires Club)
5 years of play (Super King Solomon's Tribe)

No problem for fella's like me but how do the Filthy Rich manage their resources? More so in terms of distribution, storage, number of accounts, etc.
Legitimate means only please hehe.

In a former shard I was playing I saw folks who have invested in numerous accounts to build homes and castles.

Anyways I don't have a clue hope you could share your experience (ballpark calculations ok) TIA!

Oh and if you haven't earned that much gold even after playing after so long (over 5 years) it would also be nice to share your stature.

I neither know nor care who has the most wealth. Nor do I know just how much I have between characters, I don't count it, not very much because I'm as likely to spend my time gathering spined leather or arcane gems and leaving the gold on the corpses.
Gold is not the reason I play.
I'm also of the opinion that bragging about your wealth is tantamount to an invitation for someone to try to take it away from you, but that's just my personal opinion.

I doubt Petra is alone, thinking that way.

It's like in RL: Money is nice when you have it, but not "the ultimate goal" for most (usually it is having a family, friends..).
So you aren't all about getting money, as there are more important aspects to life for you, yet if someone walks up to you and says "Heeeey pal, Gladi my maaaan, whatcha got on your bank account currently?" you would probably (hopefully..) not just tell them.

And yeah, I realise I just compared UO to RL, but "common sense" is good to have in both places. ^^

Whether or not someone cares particularly about gold or any item for that matter does not mean they condone someone else taking it away or stealing it.
I personally dont care about many items in my possession but I still wouldnt want someone breaking into my house to steal them of course. And I doubt anyone else here would.

I have no idea how much I have, and really don't know what it's worth. As long as I have whatever I need (bandies, orange petals, half decent suits to protect my chars & useable equipment), I'm just not fussed about chasing shinies.

Over 10yrs, I've accumulated a whole bunch of stuff. During that time frame, I quit for about 18mos-2yrs (to GM Mothering Skill), and returned to little more than what my chars stood up in plus whatever pets they had in the stables.

I value my few friends highest of all, closely followed by my pets. With a lovely, warm, active guild and 3 Leg Tamers & 3 Elders worth of stable slots filled to bursting point, I'm happy.

9 years+ in UO, 3 accounts, tram castle, luna house, 2b gold and a lot of other junks.

But the one item that I valued most was the 1st plain treasure map that I decoded and digged out 9 years ago. It was a huge achievement of a newbie.

In UO we deal with items and gold everyday. The wealth in game would be more meaningful if we hadn't have and are not having so much cheats and exploits.

There is not one contradictory word or sentence in Petra's post.

Do you actually know what the word contradiction means?

Petra like others in this same cesspool of a thread you started simply pointed out that bragging about wealth can be dangerous as it may leave the person bragging susceptible to foul play. Btw, if you also don't know what susceptible means please PM me and I will patiently try to explain it to you.
