A Broken And Bugged Guild?

Afternoon, folks.

A little over a month ago, a close friend of mine returned to the Baja Shard. She was the sole remaining member of a very important and historical roleplaying guild on our shard, and since no one else from her community had logged in for more than a year and a half, she hoped that she might retrieve the leadership position and breathe new life into the guild. If nothing else, she hoped to add the guild to our shards roleplaying alliance while still being on the roster incase any old members return to the game.

Well, she was kind of stuck. Only being the rank of member, she couldn't add people to the guild to help vote her in. So she contacted a gamemaster, who if I remember correctly said that if no one had been on within the past ninety days, their vote becomes irrelevant and she should be able to become guildmistress with her one vote alone. She tried this, but to no avail. She continued trying to contact the gamemasters after several repeated failures, because if what she was told was true, then her guild was bugged. After several canned messages, she was finally told that if she sends another page she would have her account suspended.

So what should we do? Has anyone else had this problem? I'm almost hoping that one of the developers might see this and be able to offer a solution. I know they have said that gamemasters don't have the power to transfer guild leadership, but I'm hoping that if this is a bug they might be able to do something about this. I would hate to see a historical roleplaying guild just disappear.

Thanks!

The same thing has happened to me - and I have no idea what the solution is.

I have an alternate character in a formerly illustrious *coughs* guild that I founded. I handed the leadership to another, as I was busy running my main guild (among other things).

Time passed, and most members wandered away. There are now only two people on that guild roster: myself, and the nominal guild leader - who has not logged into UO for almost two and-a-half years now!

I have tried voting for myself, but am not allowed that provision. (Our space cadet 'leader' had left my status as default 'Ronin'). Apparently, there is f-all I can do to resurrect the guild, at this point.

Sadly, while there is a 90-day rule for votes to count, someone forgot to make sure the program actually checks for it. Unless an emissary comes back to the game, there is nothing you can do at this time except to send in a bug report.

I'm not even sure there would be an emissary on the whole stone. While once upon a time, it was one of the largest roleplaying guilds on our shard, like many of them it completely disappeared prior to Samurai Empire.

She is kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

There's not tragic role-play value in letting once-glorious guilds die? Allowing them to pass into legend, referred to in reverent tones by new guilds built in their shadow? Occasionally perhaps see a rare knight of a neigh-extinct order step from the shadows in antique armour to wonder the lands once more?

Just make sure she holds on to the Guild with that one character

My guild was messed up too... I had declared war on another one of my guilds, and I was still being treated as if I were at war, but that guild had disbanded years ago, so I couldn't join an alliance.

I had to delete the guild and make a new one with the same name. Gm's didn't understand what my problem was, kept sending me to a factions website.

Its not just RP guilds that have this problem. I'm an Emissary with majority votes from the ACTIVE players in the guild but I am still unable to become GM. Also it clearly states in the Knowledgebase that GMs are unable to make people Guildmaster so its a waste of time contacting them about it.

As Emissary you can still add chars and have them voting (and remove old members who are not active any more) until you get the majority of voices (which not happens immediatly).
But as a normal member, even if the only left alone one, you are stuck. You can't do anything, until some dev decides, that this is interesting enough to fix this and finds the time to do so.

Well, that is kind of what happened. She returned a couple months ago from a several year long exodus. The majority of the guilds members haven't even logged in since before Samurai Empire.

The character in the guild is her main, so she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She wants to be part of our shards main roleplaying alliance, but at the same time doesn't want to abandon the guild that she was a part of for a number of years. She would rather ressurect it in some small way, so that it continues to live on. It would also help, like in the case of the other guild we did manage to retrieve, to have these old guilds in the alliance so that we can keep an eye out for returning veterans from years gone by.

We have done this on Origin a while ago. It was a never ending pain, getting dummy characters created by a lot of community members, adding them to the guild, promoting them to member status and having them to vote.
But finally we made it.

Same thing happened on Oceania to a very old RP guild. My friend was the sole active member and basically kept the town on life support for many years. In the end it all fell through, which was rather sad.

There should be some sort of petition/recourse for this type of thing.
