Since we've now got granite that is labeled with the ore type, would it be possible to now have the Bod reward anvils labeled also? It really gets to be a pain to have to have someone come and look at any that I get to tell me what color it is, and again, I'm not alone in this as 40% of the male UO players are color blind to some extent or another.

I know every one of us would be grateful!

So how's about it Devs? Can you make life for us just a little bit easier?

I am neutral on the subject. But if it makes you feel better I thought about posting earlier, but I got side tracked by work.

Stupid job!

I don't think it would be a bad idea to have them labeled so it's obvious as to what color they are.

Not to sound like a ****, but if you're color blind why do you care what color it is? For the purpose of selling?

It wouldn't matter if I was selling or keeping, the fact of the matter is I, and the other part of the 40% of males that play UO, can't tell what color most of the anvils are without assitance. If we wanted them to complete a set, or needed, say a Verite, to go with Ash furniture, or to sell them, we have no way to know what color they are without having to get a friend to come and look at it. It's not that big of a deal to place a label on them. They did it with the granite types, and it was very well received when they did. UO is the only MMO I know of that has actively taken measures to help the color blind, which gives it the distinction of such to add to it's lists of "only's".

So Chrissay, Regine, what do you say? Any chance of this happening?

I guess I am in the 60 percentile but I am all for labeling stuff to help out. I am sorry for your affliction. lol. It seems like a simple fix to me.

Hmmm, ya.. it should be a simple fix. Just attach the naming to the color that already exists and insert the text into the name... have to add a string variable or two.

Connor... need the name of a good ADA lawyer? Heh

Yeah. I agree. I'd like to see the ore name on the deed and the actual anvil.

I sent this idea in about 2 years ago.

sure. AND please add label to the 2nd version (dull ones) tokuno dyes and holiday bells, statues, etc. I am not color blind still can hardly tell the difference.

Yeah, those can most definitely be a pain. With the small size of them, there's no way I'd ever even be able to guess what the color of most of them are.

I totally agree with you although I am not color blind. Is this more common in men than women? I'm female. My downfall is curiosity! :D

Offtopic, but yes, the most common form of color blindness is linked to a mutation on the X chromosome (men have one copy, women have two copies and only need one to work for color vision). Around 5% of men have it, which suggests that 5% of the genes are the "defective" version, which means that you would expect women to have it 0.25% of the time (give or take the amount of inbreeding).

I'm not color blind, but my eyes still can't tell apart a lot of the hues in the game without a lot of squinting :)

The information I read said that 40% of males had some degree or type of color blindness. I don't think that 5% is accurate, especially since my own experience over the years would indicate differently.

I don't know the exact number - the 5% is just a figure that I've heard a few times over the years. And since every possible variation in the genes that codes for the cones likely has some impact on how sensitive a person is to different colors, there are different ways to draw the line of what constitutes "blindness" to a color (we all see the world a little differently - there are even people who have mutations that *add* to the range of colors they can see). And since it's inherited, there is likely a lot of variation in frequency between ethnic groups.

The information I have was based on the number of people that fail the typical color vision test, specifically the one where a number is on a page in a test book with circles of various colors, with the number being made up of a specific color, and the other circles (or dots) being of another color. I know that when I've taken that test I can't see half of the numbers. There is also another test called the Farnsworth Lantern test, which is another one I've failed lol. The only one I've ever passed was one in which you had to place a series of items in order according to shade from lightest to darkest.

Most people are not color "blind"...the Blind part is a misnomer, in almost every case.

Most everyone labeled as "color blind" is actually what is called "color deficient".

This means that the people with this condition have fewer of the needed rods and cones (receptors) in their eyes that translate this data, to the brain.

Most people who are color deficient don't even know it, or at least, the degree to which they really are color deficient, until they take the tests for it. I was 18 before I knew I was color deficient...and I am very, very color deficient.

People like you and I that have this condition get trained by our brains, and our parents, and everyone else that THAT color is "Blue" or "Red"...but those same views, ported into the brain of a non-color deficient person, and they would likely not even recognize what we see as "Blue" or "Red".

We all see color, almost to a person. We just all see it a bit different, in our minds eye, depending on the translation, from the eyes.

It's just that for some colors (red, green, etc), the receptors are missing in the eyes, to help adequately translate what we see through our eyes, to what we can recognize, in the brain.

Anyway...
