Realism!... who needs to be on a certain place to perform his task - around a forge/anvil?
AFAIK no other ingame crafter profession has this limitation to create, enhance, recycle or repair items. So why the blacksmith?

Fire Beetle is not the answer, since is good only for a miner to smelt ore. You can neither smelt metal items or craft/repair with only a fire beetle present.fire beetle.
Second that. You can carry nails, hammers, planers, bladed items, scissors. To make flour you have to be at a flour mill, to make cloth you need spinning wheels and looms, smiths need an anvil and forge.Realism!Cooks need to be near an oven too.
Hmmm, well think about it.... who needs to be on a certain place to perform his task - around a forge/anvil?

QFTWWhy is this an issue?
OK, so for the fans of realistic gameplay (while a rideable fire beetle is already not fitting at all into that concept): At least repairs of weapons usage and a slightly damaged armor piece in the field would usually not need an anvil. You would need a nice stone to sharpen the blades and your hammer to beat out the armor. (Especially, since repairs do not consume any material, I see no need for forge/anvil in this case.)

Didn't you know that those 11 yr old pair of undies we all wear are made from asbestos?Hard enough to imagine how on earth someone can even ride on a beetle that hot to begin with.
The Smith was also feared even by the most stalwart of knights when angered. A Smith wielding his hammer would make even King Arthur think twice about messing with him. Who else would know exactly how and where to hit a knight to make his armor as useful as aluminum foil? The image of a blacksmith IS a person of strength banging away with a smiths hammer on his metal and anvil in the heat of his/her forge.
I was just going to mention that.Portable forges...
Lets be honest, leather armour has long been a thing of the past in reality. Armour heavier - yes...who really cares. On one side people call for breaking the domination of leather armor against metal armor, on the other side the blacksmith is always discriminated. Be it with the products he creates (armor heavier and non medable, enhancing limited to add resists)

IMO, all 120 Smiths should have 120 wep skill automatically when they equip a Smith's hammer.
LOL, I remember when I first got my fire beetle and showed it to my wife. She asked "doesn't that burn up your guy's bottom?"a rideable fire beetle is already not fitting at all into that concept
Just do what I do, place a forge and anvil next to my chests. Do your thing, and then chop them. A quick and easy fix.Why is this an issue?
Lets see:
If I walk around with my crafter cleaning up the clutter in my chests including repairing stuff, I always have to carry this stuff to the corner with forge/anvil. Not very convenient in a larger house.
If the guild is hunting somewhere in a no recall area (FEL dungeons, Doom 2), we could put a crafter there to make necessary repairs in the field for tailored items, wooden items, bows - but not for metal armor and weapons. On top these often loose durability much faster often, since those chars wearing them are often the ones toe by toe with their enemies. On one side people call for breaking the domination of leather armor against metal armor, on the other side the blacksmith is always discriminated. Be it with the products he creates (armor heavier and non medable, enhancing limited to add resists), the chances to enhance something (w/o ASH), the place where to do craftings and repairs.

Ugh, yeah, like others said, place your chests next to your forge and anvil or your forge anvil next to your chests. Why is this an issue?

... which means it must be excreting the ingots. You're using fire beetle poop to make weapons and armor. And, I prefer to think of the ore refining process as FEEDING the beetle the ore.
From what I understand of Imbuing, the blacksmith won't be the only crafter that needs a static item for long. An artificer will need a soul forge to perform his craft.... who needs to be on a certain place to perform his task - around a forge/anvil?
