Stat loss? Really?

I was running around trying to work up remove trap, and got killed by a crate (yeah I know, go figure). The problem is...it put me into stat loss. ROFL, WTH?

Ok, here's another question in regards to remove trap. I don't want to add tinker to my template, my current skill level is at 40 something. I'd like to work it up to 70 (RoT on Siege) without using player made chests...is this possible?

Please advise...la

This is amusing given the taboo nature of "crates" in the PvP Thief forum. Sucks that you got put in stat loss though. Ohh well, it will happen again while you train this skill, so get used to it.

One of the backrooms (Northwest room) of the bank in Vesper spawns low level crates, that you can train on. It's where i did my training on Seige, before I completely revised my character to be a Miner (before soulstones :cursing:). You can move onto the harder ones that spawn in the southern rooms, when you need to. You can also use dungeon chests that spawn, since they also scale in difficulty. Follow the link to the THB information. Now you have an option to go somewhere else too.

Well, since I am in factions, I would like to remove faction placed traps. The stratics guide sucks to say the least and most if not all of the essays I've seen on the skill only use a tinker trapped crate to train. I would like to do this without using that route...la

Rico, usually I work up the tinkering on the same character that is working on remove trap, raising both as I go and trying to keep tinkering 10-20 points higher than remove trap. When finished with remove trap, I would just soulstone the tinkering or put it on another character on the same account.

I've also raised the tinkering on another character and switched between the two characters as their skills raised. When I did it that way, I had 40-60 boxes that the tinker would trap and then I'd switch back to using the trap remover to take out the traps. When she had about 2/3rds of the traps removed from those boxes, I'd switch back to the tinker and have her trap all the cleared boxes again. It was very tedious, but eventually I did finish it.

It's definitely faster to do the tinkering and remove trap on the same character that isn't in factions yet and then just take off the tinkering when you're done. If you have a couple of soulstones, this would also give you the ability to have your trap remover/trap creator all stashed in one character.

Well, the problem with swapping stones is that I am on siege, so one character, one account. I have two accounts, but have already GM tinkering on my non-faction account.

Grumbles...I hate to raise tinker again, but then again, I would be able to make traps and place them with the same character...guess I'll have to start tinkering on my thief...*grumbles*...la

Try the chests in Vesper bank? Respawn is quite frequent but idk how high it would take you. I know dungeon chests would work (less frequent spawns but still possible) but what a pita on Siege with no recall...

Rico, not sure you saw Poo's post on the Factions forum about how he works up remove trap. It might help you a bit. http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?p=1146304#post1146304.

I experienced the same on a production shard a while ago - while training remove traps in Trammel on a shop golden box I did blow up myself and fell into stat loss. Although this was before the changes for faction membership being less troublesome in Trammel, so I can't say, that it is still the case.

I have been hazed about "crates" in the Thief Forum in the past (prior to the board wipe). I could not pass up the opportunity, for a little hazing of my own. What I meant by "get used to it" is that this skill has the nasty habit of killing you while you train, regardless of your skill. The Remove Trap skill will not lessen the damage done by the trap.

The link I provided does not mention player crafted chests. I suggest working with the lower level chests until your Remove Trap skill is within 10 of the Lockpicking skill required to open the spawning chest. I have found that they are closely related as far as difficulty. I did not ask why you wanted to raise the skill, so I don't understand why you snapped at me for reasoning behind raising the skill.

Why don't you want to use a player made box? I can understand not wanting to raise tinkering, just to make your own box. Is there any other reason? I have a character on Siege, with 75 tinkering that can make a few boxes for you (but I might need the materials for it, I have not played him in a while).

I have a toon with GM tinker already, so I wouldn't be able to disarm them at 45. And I already raised lock pick to gm on this character to open the paragon chests...la

I'm not real sure I should help you since your CoM and I'm Minax on Siege :)

When I trained Atuk's Remove Trap, I did it out of Factions, but I only died 2-3 times tops to 100. I trained Tinkering also at the same time, but I had a GM tinker already and only had to train it on Atuk up to about 65-70. After that I used GM Boxes, once in RoT(70) it's easy.

Max your STR 125, put on a suit with high Fire Resist and some HP Inc.
I used a Spirit of the Totum and a few Pieces of Str Inc/HP Inc that was 70 Phy/70 Fire and high Poison all the way up to 100
If your not going to train Tinkering, look at the lockpicking stuff, you don't have to pick the chests to disarm them. http://uo.stratics.com/thb/info/dungeon/dungeonguide.shtml "Spawning Chests by Level" and "Where to find them " start with the Dart Traps(Phy damage) move to Poison, then move up to the higher level Explosion Traps(Fire damage)
If the Damage Starts getting to close to killing you, drink a str pot and a heal pot before you hit the Trap, I think I took alot more damage making the Traps then I ever did Removing them.

You could buy some Trapped boxes from Tinkers in Training at various levels to fill the gaps, but once you hit RoT its all Gravy anyways, just the waiting period. It would be a lot quicker to make 1 disarm 1 then to hunt them down and disarm, but that's up to you.

You'll probably end up doing what I did, I left my Tink at the 70 Range for a long time on my RT Guy since I had a GM Tink, but then I wanted to make Faction Traps as well as removing them, now I have 2 Tinkers :)

I have trained Remove Traps in the past on my lockpicker. Initial gains you get on the low level chests in the Vesper bank. Just ensure, that you always have GC or other means of curing at your hand. If the skill goes up, continue with the better dungeon chests. In case of the explosive boxes a good resist armor and enough HP are recommended.
Some of the static dungeon chests are triple trapped, releasing those can be deadly sometimes.
From around 75 skill dungeon chests dont give you any gain any more - now tinker made trapped boxes or digged up treasure chest are the instruments for gains.

Actually, I'm not worried about getting it past 70. At that point I'll be in RoT and will be able to get gains easy...la
