Bonded pets.

I can't really see the harm in knowing how my horse or beetle or dog for that matter is doing. Besisdes, if we have such a close "bond" dosen't it make sense that I would know how it feels and such.

Just to help you out, you can animal lore tame pets with human skill (20).

I could have swore that my few elves COULD lore their bonded pets - just takes about 10+ tries to get a success.

I agree, you should be able to lore bonded pets. Seeing as how you have to have the requisite skill to be able to bond them, you should have a 100% chance to lore your own bonded pet even with zero skill. Just like hiding in your own house. There really is no reason not to be able to monitor your own pets. If you dont need taming to own it, and its bonded to you, there is no reason not to be able to do this.

You could find a tamer and ask them. Wouldn't that be a little more realistic, and add a little to the community feel of UO?

If you see me in Britain or somewhere ask me, I will do it for free.

If you see me in Luna, it will cost you 10,000,000 gold, like everything else there. :D

I have a tamer, dosent help my thunter know how his beetle is doing in skills, yes I use a beetle to kill poison eles that are peaced and discorded on hunts. Ostards are also possible for low level fighting.

The point is that "I" as the person that has a bond so strong with my pet that I can call them back from the dead. I should know how the thing is doing. You can still have your community when I come to get the dead pet ressed.

So, you have no lore or vet?

Let me see if I can equate this to the real world...

You own a Porsche...you love it, you would do ANYTHING to get it running again if it broke down. But you don't know ANYTHING about cars beyond how to drive it. When it starts making a strange sound, would you know what it was...could you troubleshoot it? Would you even notice it?

A trained mechanic would notice it. A trained mechanic would know exactly what was wrong with it.

Or they would run tests and rip you off when the actual problem was loose belt or something :)

But either way, I think someone this close to their pet would be able to tell if it were bleeding or something, but for example...if you are not an animal person, and your cat has a warm nose, would you know that meant she was sick?

Even if you MUST player an elf (with no JoaT), Animal Lore jewelry is still available. If you can be bothered to drag a dog around with you I'm sure it's not much of a hassle to carry an extra single stone as well.

Note also that your "bond" with your pet does not allow you to "call them back from the dead". It allows characters with the Veterinary and - wait for it - Animal Lore skills to call your pet back from the dead.

Most race car drivers are well enough in tune with their car to know what's going on with it. I can fix my car to a point but im no expert, atleast not enough to help someone else with their car, but mine I feel comfortable with.

I see your point, I see the point of the other people, it's just a suggestion that I think goes along with the concept of bonding.

Testing reveals 1-20 tries on a elf char = 0 success

1=4 tries with human and 9.7 skill = success

9.7 skill on a human = 20 skill.

JoaT is the representation of you being able to "fix your car to a point" even though you've put very little effort into learning about it.

Jack of all Trades. One of the racial abilities of human characters. It means they have an inferred minimum of 20 points in all skills. So, for example, a human attempting to Lore (or Hide, or various other things) has at least a one in five chance of pulling it off, even if his displayed skill level is lower.

I lore my pets with 0 skill all the time, and they are elves. It can take alot of tries but it will work.

Yes. That is true...because they learn their car...they possess a knowledge of it...they have, what would equate in UO terms, Car Lore.
