What is Your Idea for an EM ran Event?

I thought we might do something just for fun, and yet potentially useful for our new EMs. I want all of you to post your ideas for a fun filled EM event for the entire shard to take part in. Also what the reward at the end should be, but remember it has to be within the powers the EM program is limited by. I will list the limits below:

1. EMs cannot do much with NPC characters that appeared on all shards, related to main plot fiction. (For the simple reason that the development team may be planning their own events and storyline involving these characters.)
2. EMs cannot use any monsters that require new artwork. Though they can use existing artwork and rename and recolor monster to make special monsters for events.
3. EMs cannot do any major world changing events unless the development team is doing it to all the shards.
4. EMs cannot give you items that they wear nor make special rare items for one player alone. (All rewards given out at the end of an event must be preapproved by the people Mythic has managing the EM program.)
5. EMs do not have the abilities of the Game Masters so they cannot take bug reports or give technical assistance.
6. EMs must always stay in character and act like the NPC they are playing all the time.
7. All EM ran characters will have an yellow name tag to them (when in their normal EM form they will be wearing a green robe highlighted with gold trim.)
8. EMs do things to benefit the entire shard and not one small group (They can get special permission from Mythic to place new structures or decorations if there is enough public interest. All these minor world changing items must be preapproved though from those above the EMs again at Mythic.)
9. Just remember this one basic rule: They are there to promote role-playing and to increase the level of quests and events in Ultima Online.

I will now give you a simple event as an example of what I would like to see:

The EM will gather everyone at the Britain Councilors Hall and tell them that a young girl has gone missing near Yew, and the last person who saw her a woodsman who was hunting deer near there. Unfortunately he has other pressing matters to take care of and asked if all of you would be willing to help find this poor lost girl.

All of you go to Yew and find the woodsman (The EM role playing this role of course) in the abbey upset and muttering to himself. The group questions him and finds out that the Woodsman saw the girl being drug off by a large group of orcs. He tried to save her but there were just too many of them. He then tells you that he thinks they were heading for the orc fort south of Yew.

Rushing to the fort the players find out there is a new orc type called a shaman who cancels out magic around it and uses necromancer spells. (Yes this new orc uses the same artwork as an orc mage) These orcs have made it so no one can recall into the fort itself. (This is done mostly so the event will not be too easy.) The orc spawn will be all types of orcs but guessing the party will be around 30 players the EM will of set up 6 orcs per player that spawn. The heroes will have to fight their way into the fort where they will face a named orc brute “Nugnums Orc Chieftain” (This of course will be the EM playing the role.) He will challenge the gathered force and be angry that they got into his fort. A huge battle will take place with many deaths but the party will be victorious over the chieftain Brute. They will find the girl in the back of the fort along with a scroll written in orc. The EM will appear then saying he is done with his pressing matters and came to help all of you. Seeing you are done he will say he is taking the girl home and the rest of you are to meet him back at his hall.

Once at the hall he will thank all of you and give each of the girls rescuers a sash with the title “Orc Slayers” on it. He will then say he can read orc and the scroll said that a mighty Orc army is being raised and he will have to look into it more and will call all of you together again when he finds out more. (This is to start a storyline that could run through 3 or 4 events.) Event done!

So lets hear what kind of adventure you would like to see on our shard?

I rather like that scenario Vallend. I also like the event that the United Pirates ran. Us players have even less than the EM's to work with, but often make wonderful quests to do. ^.^

A mix of one night events like the one above with events set out to be completed over time, allowing folks to do so over a given week or two would be great.

Shield in councilors hall reads: The custodian of the Library in Britain received an anonymous book delivered today... [A simple note to let folks know something is stirring.]

A book placed in the library is a journal containing a clue, riddle etc.

Each consecutive clue leads to a new book, page, npc [not EM played UP did excellent work with barkeeps in their quest].

In the end quest participants find out a bit of news/information about a plot against something and take it to a predestined meeting.

A scroll found at the scene reads: "This information can't reach the council meeting at such and such time, at the throne room in Britain"

The quest ends in the council meeting a week or so after the original clue was found so that people have time to participate, and know when to meet up to complete the quest.

This would allow folks with different schedules to participate though they may not be able to attend the meeting itself.

No need for special rewards, a good story is the reward!

I recently went over to visit the Baja Shard when I had heard that they had a new fair grounds. Now this has always been a dream of mine for the Catskills shard so I wanted to see what theirs was like. I have always envisioned a fair grounds in Trammel or Malas where fun community events and competitions could be held. As you can see below the one on Baja featured an archery range and a pen for some event I am not sure about. They have a public bartender, a stage area and plenty of outdoor tables to sit at and enjoy a nice ale. I also found a impressive Horse racing track there that a sign claimed was used for weekly races. You can call me jealous after visiting there, but these are examples of things EMs can request for their shards if there is enough interest.

I liked theirs but I always pictured ours being more of a festival grounds for competitions for knights. So I pictured a few tents around the edges, a jousting field and a sword fighting fenced in area (Think the movie “A Knights Tale”). I like the idea of an archery range too with distances marked off for each round. I would want a permanent moongate there with the other end being at either near the councilors Guild building in Britain or in New Haven. Also I would like either a permanent healer placed there or a ankh to resurrect people that may die there.

I think a place like this would be useful for the EMs to run special events and for players to have player ran events too. Think of monthly archery tournaments, Jousting tournaments and melee combat matches. If the tents were placed maybe one could have a blacksmith area in front of it. Where RPers can have a Player ran blacksmith fix their armor and weapons between rounds. Perhaps even a large fenced in area where pet fights could be run? All these things in one central location that everyone can get to easy.

My biggest dream is to someday convince the Dev team to add a special stone at the entrance to these combat competition areas that will be called a “Challenge Stone.” When clicked you would be asked if you desired to engage in consensual combat in the competition area. This would make it so players would not have to quit their guild and join the one running the event just so they could enjoy some fun PvP fighting. So each of these areas would be like little pockets of Felucca in Trammel or Malas as long as you said yes to the stones. Otherwise it would still follow the Trammel rule set if you didn’t use the stone. The only thing different would be that there would not be any looting allowed at all in these zones. (This will cut down on griefers taking new players there just to kill and loot them.) It would in my eyes also help Felucca by introducing players to PvP in a safe non-ganking area, and who knows some may enjoy it enough to play more in Felucca.

If you get a chance go visit this area on the mainland across from Skara Brae on Baja and see what a EM can do to help a shard grow together. Now lets hear your ideas.

Now that gives me an idea, regarding an 'event' with a unique reward, using the fairground idea from Baja.

It will be a series of events, run by the EM, around the construction of the fairgrounds. The events will occur throughout the construction of the area, and must be completed to advance the progress of this. Each one maybe 2-3 weeks apart. For example...

- Our supply of wood has been cut off, due to an uprising of treefellow in the nearby woods - this would be an event where a caravan must be defended, followed by hunting down the root of the uprising and destroying it.

- A dragon might take up residence in a nearby cave, and take a liking to attacking the area from time to time.

- Some NPCs (maybe bards, or a shipment of ale) might be kidnapped by brigands and/or pirates. Get them back.

At the end, the 'reward' for this chain of events, is the fairground itself. Have a monument at the center, with a book listing off names of those who aided in it's defense and construction.

The fairground itself could have many things - Aside from the usual jousting arena and archery area, add a market area for players to sell items, a bank, stables, a stage area, and a beer tent, etc.

If the EM's job is to promote RP, I think a venue like this will go a long way.

You do realize that, pun intended or not, I will be forced to have one of your characters killed, yes?

Maybe something that works into the King Casca plotline. Charge the people with getting to the root of his origins, intentions and possible corruption.... if that's the way the plotline is going to go.

Neat little event items such as Casca's Diary or a letter from Casca to someone regarding Ricardo... I dunno, I think it'd be neat to catch him red-handed in something like the execution of the Council :D

I've been working on this one for days.....here we go!

The Em's call a meeting. A Mongbat appears....right in the middle of the hall! He says in his monkey/bat voice, "I will kill anyone that speaks, other than the EM! If you have a dragon that starts having a seizure....you and it shall die!!!!! I Have Spoken!"

As people on Catskills can't help but shout crazy crap and beg for gifts...and people can't go to the bathroom without taking their dragon along....this may be the most difficult event in UO history in terms of staying alive!

For those who live....you get a shirt that says: I'm Smarter Than the Average Bank Sitter

For those that die..a shirt that says: I'm Not Very Good In Social Situations

Thank you...I'll be here all week.

Hey hey hey, I think my tavern wench idea was a very valid addition to the RP community!!! :p
How about instead of a mongbat....we have a tavern wench kill everybody?

Which reminds me of a story. When I was in college....I met this woman. Her name was Amy. She worked at a bank that I didn't frequent...but after I met her...I started driving out of my way to use that branch. I was flirting with her one day....and as I have a mysterious and magical power to enslave women's desire....I was able to secure an appointment to spend some money on her and hopefully buy her breakfast the next day.

I went to pick her up....and of course I was dressed nicely in my young Republican/Preppy fashion. She answered the door in fishnets, kneehigh boots with silver pointy things on em, a black waist coat, a furry miniskirt, cranberry colored hair and lastly....no shirt and black tape over her thingees in an X shape.

I remembered back to our conversation....we were gonna go to this club...have a drink or two...listen to this band....and then go watch the midnight showing at the Kentucky Theatre. Someone forgot to mention it was goth night at the club....and that I might should dress differently than I normally would! I said, "Amy...I think I might should change." Cause I still wanted to go....something about the way she looked made me feel....interested. Yeah...we'll call it interested! She said, "You're fine....most of the folks there look like you 99% of the time....it's just a way to blow off steam."

I went...had a great time. We actually lived together for a year...until my one true weakness became evident.....my fear of commitment!

Why do I tell this story? It's a fish outta water thing. Something about one of Fresca's parents made them go all crazy and they mated outside their normal species! I don't see any other half-elfs running around. Maybe a nice event would be to track down his Mom and Dad? Find out what kinda bar his Mom drug his Dad to? Maybe find out about how he grew up? And then maybe we can get a shirt that says, "Fresca's Mom was a Goth Cutey and Made His Dad Crazy!!!

I understand, Corvak. It's avarice. Pure and simple. Let's travel back in time for an example.......

Two chicks took a baby to Solomon....both said it belonged to them. Solomon said...well...I'll whack it in two with this 50% DI, 40% SSI, 15% HCI Radiant Scimitar! One said...."Sounds great! I'll take the half that don't poop!" The other said..."No Solomon....don't cut my youngin' in two pieces! She can have it!" Solomon said...."Yea verily....cause you aint willing to let me whack this baby apart....the baby must be yours! " UO is the baby.....and rather than let it grow so it can cut the grass one day....some people would rather kill it and take what they can get.

Dang....I'm on a roll tonight!
