Ok devs, this invasion nonsense is getting REAL old.

I teleport into a bowyer shop, to be gangbanged by 10000 reds, and I lost 16k of gold.

This invasion bullspit ain't cute any more. Can we have a few safe cities? Jeesh.

Really, folks. This "arbitrarily drop 1,000,000,000,000 red monsters everywhere in a random city" B.S. makes no sense and is really irritating.

Oh lovely. And the healers in brit are red too.

I believe the phrase rhymes with "Clucking witch".....
But there are tons of safe cities. Ever try going to one of the non-invasion cities?

I would tell you to go play Second Life, except I hear there are terrorists in that game...People who hang out outside chain stores (seems they have chain stores too) and kill people who walk out.

The safe cities include Cove (unless you play on Atlantic, in which case I hear a bizarre bug has kept the Vanguard around); Luna; New Haven/Occlo; Umbra; Gargoyle City; all of the Gypsy Camps in Ilshenar; Papua; Delucia.

I think those 8 may be all though.

It's really not like you don't know at this point, Caspian. Our characters do not live in a safe world. Frankly, not being mobbed near-constantly by PKs is enough safety for me.

Have you ever read a single book or seen a single film in the genre this game is in? If you have, what on earth gave you the impression that the monsters hiding behind every rock were intent upon maintaining your safety?

Don't forget Ne'Jhleom.

There is also the Fel facet, no invasions there obviously. Unless you are on siege.

You could also try NOT recalling into the cities and just walking into the cities from outside.

I dont have an issue with dangers in Britannia, it's just this crap about cities suddenly being riddled with reds seems really dumb and unrealistic.

Where are you finding the invasions to play with?!!! What shard?!! I never seem to find any of the towns active. I wanna play with the invasions but they are never around for me........

An irony being that most of the use the bowyers are getting, is a result of the prices of arrows resetting once the invasions are fought back.

Is it really that hard to go to a "different " city?

If you are on Atlantic I'll mark a few runes for you. :)

Wow that is a great way to explain why the world should be more dangerous. I wish I would have had thought of that the other day when my friend and I were arguing over a very similar subject

Keep in mind I'm a trammie and I scare easily. I mean just yesterday I saw a really scary-looking moth outside my tower and I ran inside and dove under my sheets and hugged my teddy bear.

You're worried about realism in a world where we can shoot fireballs and have magically-powered robots?

Spawn isn't coded to march on one location from another. Invasions have been done in this way, more or less, since the Undead Invasion of Trinsic long ago.

Back in November I wrote a information story for the players on Catskills. Most of the information is still good on the invasions. (The only major change was that you are no longer redirected to a safe city when an Invasion is going on.) Here is the information if you want it. Invasion Information

Everyone has something that breaks the spell for them if only for awhile. For some it's the Todd McFarlane-done robots. I, personally, don't have an issue with that. It's something different for everybody you see.

I just don't see, however, how invasion code that's been around since Minax's Undead marched into Trinsic can possibly be that spell-breaking for anybody.

At the end of the day I feel your initial post boils down to "I died, I'm pissed." Not unlike the post I was going to make about the insurance bug (definitely not a hack, because it was in Ilshenar) being alive and well. Then the thing I thought I lost popped up in my pack. It wasn't an insurance bug at all, but that occasional "temporarily vanishing item" bug we've all seen. Annoying, yes, but nothing to write home about.

Everyone who's played this game has made a non-sensical post, and I personally think this was yours. For it to be reasonable would require:

1 - All cities to be under invasion (which they aren't);

2 - The invasions to have come without warning (which they didn't, they've been known about and discussed here for months);

3 - The fantasy genre to be one wherein we can reasonably expect to be safe most of the time (which it's not, and indeed our characters are lucky to be as safe as they are).

Actually only faction towns can become invaded. Or better their trammel counterparts. That leaves open:
- Malas
- Illshenar
- Tokuno Islands
- Felucca
- The Lost Lands (There were factions towns but factions moved over to other towns when champion spawns were moved into the Fel-LL.)
- Jhelom
- Nujelm
- Cove
- Serpents Hold
- Buccaneers Den

You dont necessaryly need to end an invasion to get NPCs respawned. After killing one a new one respawns. You only need some luck that your desired NPC is attackable and respawns afterwards as a normal NPC.

I wish they return to teleporting [moving you] to a safe city if you log in during a city invasion or if you recall/gate into a city during an invasion. There are shops in some city I like going to more then other cities, also when shopping for bolts or arrows we normally hit all the bow shops, and I hate to jump into a city on my crafter during invasion.

Also when you go to visit friends on other shards, it really sucks when you show up to visit them as a ghost and they have to help you replace all you lost since you have little to no gold on those shards. Being greeted by a dragon in the Inn in Brit is no fun.

it is a fact, that not everybody has such a statue and that it unfortunately only works of locked down in a house.
Delucia, Papua, Jhelom, Luna, Umbra, Zento ... - there are quite a few non invaded towns.

The more annoying problems come up, if you are logging in inside a tavern in a just invaded town and share the room with some of the invaders.

That could be annoying.

Brit west inn should be safe the spawns focuses on the east (all the towns you mentioned), and if you do need to go to a certain town (yew for example) use the town criers at safe towns first to ascertain whether it is invaded.

Perosnally i wish they stepped up the invasion for a week or 2 and just had EVERY town being invaded AT ONCE!!now that would be fun!!!

exactly. i think the invasions are a great addition to the game and definitly should not be stopped.
p.s. they should include luna as a invasion city.

They will stop, for the time being adds a bit of fun recalling into skara brae!

Yeah, to be honest, that was about the size of it. But I mean I've died in UO plenty of times and lost a heck of a lot more than that. But the thing that set me off is that the nature of the invasions makes absolutely zero sense. There should be a presence of guards fighting back the invasion, and it shouldn't be this "let's spin the wheel of fortune and have one random city a deathtrap for a few hours" business.

What they should do, in my no-so-humble-opinion, is to stage the invasion from a single point (instead of just suddenly making every inch of the city monster soup), and have them spread out, with npc guards fighting them along the way. Plus, once a city falls, it should stay conquered -- that would motivate players to defend it.

You see, I remember the invasion of Trinsic -- that was the last really decent invasion (also the first I believe). Players all over the shard banded together, and on Napa at least, we really put forth an organized effort to fight the invasion, which didn't just spawn undead everywhere -- the undead had to occupy a region for X minutes to start spawning there.

The invasion of Maginica showed the really bad side. First of all it was made clear at the get-go there was no way to win. That alone is pretty stupid -- why play when you know you will lose guaranteed? So instead they used the idea of items to lure players... and players were a hell of a lot more destructive to the city than the monsters ever were (to get the precious rubble).

But the invasions right now? NO point. They are gonna inexplicably pull out if you wait, and they don't drop any worthwhile items, so it's pointless.

Yeah I was pissed because I teleported into a deathtrap, but more so because it was completely meaningless deathtrap. I mean, are we gonna GO anywhere with these stupid invasions? Give it some direction devs, or turn it off. It's not novel or exciting, it's tired.

While it is buggy.. the 8 cities invaded are directly related to the factions work on the fel side. How I think it works, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong....

If any faction OTHER than the TRUE BRITTANIANS corrupt the sigils, that town is on a list for invasion.. up to 3 at a time. IF the TRUE BRITTANIANS faction corrupts the sigils, the invasion stops in that city. So each shard TB faction is actually the ones who control the invasion.

If you ask the town crier "News" or Sherry the Mouse Statute (from the spring cleaning rewards).. they will tell you which city is under invasion, at that moment, possibly saving your insurance gold.

And as stated before, it's 8 Trammel cities that have the potential for invasion, Yew, East BRIT, Magincia, Moonglow, Vesper, Trinsic, Minoc, and Skara.

Hope this helps.

I restarted UO around 6-7 months ago and the invasions started up shortly after that. I was really irritated at first because when I played UO many years ago Britain was my home town. And I couldn't survive for even a short moment against the uber invasion spawn. I wasn't really concerned with Recalling into the spawn because none of my characters at that time had Magery (and I didn't know you could recall out of a book with 100% success). It also kinda bummed me out that Britain was/is more or less a ghost town.

But now I really like the invasions. It really adds some dynamics to the game and is a good distraction when I don't feel like going for a champ spawn or something. It's great gold and sometimes a great item drop (I have several really nice spellbooks now that are way better than any Scrapper).

If I'm on a character that can't handle the invasion spawn, then they go to Haven, Cove, Nujelm, Jhelom, Serpent's Hold, Luna, Umbra, or Buc's Den. The Town Crier's always tell what cities (if any) are currently under attack, as will Sherry the Mouse. And even the cities that are under attack usually don't have invasion spawn right at the main bank.

So in the end.. I really like the invasions and I hope they continue for quite some time. I think it's a great event. Although I would love to see the invasions originate from somewhere, like a dungeon or maybe a red moongate from Fel.

It seems that on Sonoma, some people do fight the invasion in some of the towns, but then they leave the Crimson Dragon, so the town looks like it has returned to normal until you turn a corner and get frozen and killed by the dragon. I've seen the dragon stay in some towns for almost a week.

Isn't Jhelom supposed to be a safe city?
Yes, there isn't a faction sigil for that town so there shouldn't be any invasion forces there. It was also the city that you were teleported too if you logged out in one of the cities that could be invaded. Before I got a fel house, I would log my red char out in the Moonglow inn, and everytime I logged back in, it would get teleported to Jhelom.

Yes jhelom is a safe zone,

Earlier post stated it was all TB unfortunatly its TB and COM who control it in essence, if the other 2 take it then the invasion begins.
