Devs,

I have just been to the Heartwood in both Trammel and Felucca and found that the scripting situation is really super serious.... There are 10 people with beetle and packed horse at least.

Haven't been to there for awhile and just went there on last night and saw this kind of things happened.

The problem of Heartwood bow quest, or saw quest or Bods etc... able to be scripted is because it is going under a reptitive routine.

Reptitive routine = handing in the same items or doing the same steps over and over and over and over and over again.

If UO is to change the system for each quests requirement to be randomized, then the possibility to script is no longer viable.

For example, say originally only need to hand in 10 bolts or 10 bows etc..

Now make it require 10 bolts or 10 bows or 10 heavy bow + 1 random item not craftable in the UO community.

This will be able to stop people from scripting the quests repetitive 23 hours long 7 days a week.

ONE simple step to fix the problem.

Then afterwards, increase the chance for getting these tools. Since scripting is not viable anymore, the difficulty should be reduced to cope with a fair game play time for obtaining these type of items.

The quests are freaking ridiculous. The quest system is so stiff, clicking all the items as quest items etc, making these quests by hand is just killing your brain and hand. Also the chance of getting something usefull is so small, that you need make the quest tons of times to have a realistic chance to get anything = you will get tenosynovitis before you get anything useful.

There should be easier way to toggle items to quest items.

Quest should have higher chance of dropping good items, but there should be a cap how many times per day you can make it. Lets say when you have done the quest 20 times NPC will say "Sorry but I have no need for items right now, please ask again after 15 hours" or something like that.

No wonder people script these quests... They are almost like MEANT to be scripted.

yea Better loot and a certain amount of times to do it would actualy make it tempting to do them again

Here is one place where the Kingdom Reborn client beats the 2D hands down. I'm diehard 2D but I would never do that quest without KR now.

All this would do is make any honest Quester stop doing the quests. I've been doing the footstool quests for weeks now (ehh... no saws at all, and repetitively boring) and can't imagine making it ANY harder.

Don't know about the fletching runics, but the saws need a serious bump, and the loot is pretty sad. Once upon a time we could get halfway decent loot from the quests but it was nerfed into oblivion. Don't make it worse.

Here is my 2 cents.

First off, just because you see someone with 5 packies or whatever doesn't mean they are a scripter. I was getting my last few points to GM Fletcher and figured might as well get something other than a low amount of gold for my work. Paid off a little, got all the non arti bow recipes and blight gripped arti bow recipe in the process. It was boring as hell, but hey, any crafter you are grinding up is going to be boring if ya just grind it.

Second off, it doesn't matter what you do to the actual quest. The scripters will still be able to just write a script to make it roll over to what they have the resources for and are willing to give up the resources for. All these people that keep claiming you have to change the quest are just making it worse on the people who are not scripting.

I would suggest if the person or team of people who did the Spring Cleanup turnins are still working on UO to have them revamp Heartwood to use that turnin system. You would still need to make and turn in bows/stools, whatever, but at least you would be able to turn them in for points and then have a good idea of what you are going to get as a reward. Even throw in the scrolls of alacrity as rewards, but only for the skills that are being used to complete the quests.

And one simple step to basically kill questing completely for the honest player. We don't need any more 'nerfs' to questing, just the devs to stop the cheaters. Stop settling for half measures that detrimentally affect the honest players in an attempt to stop cheaters.

I mean seriously, you go along with 1600 wood to do x amount of quests and what are you going to do when you are asked for 10 bows + eg 1 arcane gem, then 10 bows and + 1 zoogi fungus. I mean really, I realise you're post is well intentioned but there is no way on earth anyone will bother doing these if that is the type of hassle involved. That is NOT a solution, getting the GM's and devs to actually 'police' and then 'fix' the issue without penalizing the honest player is.

To save your wrists and hands from swelling and falling off, ALL crafting menus need to have an option added for "Make Last 10"
There is no reason I have to hit the freakin button 100 times to make 100 potions! It's 2009 dagnabit! Give us a break!

lol, then you have to click each one just to get them ready to turn in as well, whereas they should of made it when u make then in the craft menu it has the option to auto tag the item for quest

Just let people cheat... eventually we'll have enough heartwood kits to flow the market... 2019-2020...

Just wait and see...

Good idea with the random item...

like the andros gratitude hammer...

last step to collect backpack...

ask the crafter to talk to a npc on a random town.

With regards to Heartwood crafting quests... KR client FTW.

For those that don't know... In KR you have the option in your crafting menu to select X amount of items to make AND mark as quest item at the same time.

It's so easy to cycle through the NPC's quests and find the one you want, click your make last...and whammy! You've got 10 bows already marked as quest items with the click of one button.

A lot less clicking than before in 2D.

Requiring 1 random item is completey ridiculous. Do you realize how little runics there would be from Heartwood? How long it would take to actually get a runic? Even by using 1600 wood doing bow quests you may not even get 1 freakin runic of any sort. Not to mention if you had to get the quest, then realize, I need 1 luminescent fungi, or 1 severed human ears... then go out, find that item, come back, rinse and repeat.

I say no to adding a random item.

If these people are doing it in Fel, make a thief and steal their stuff. What shard are you on? If there's 10 people doing this in Fel im going to make a thief and steal their stuff.

Lets try a post again without it locking up and have to relaunch again.

Not to put those off that can't run it, KR is the best tool for doing the quest for an active player. If it wasn't an issue for some to run I'd say it should be a KR only way to gain a runic. And the list of other things that scripting has option for.

Being more then 3/4 the gold I've ever made through the game is by crafting I would still want a drastic cleanup to be done before the Imbueding launch. The OPs fustration can be understood by hating to do anything that means competing with scripted or duped items. A nostelgia for the days of sitting at a forge repairing and making armor set was a way to make gold.

The simple cure for the future of crafting would mean the removal of all runics / GM crafted goods / and resourses and turn in rewards from the museum and library. A fresh start before the next big step of Imbueding is started. Imbueding will give those that scripted or duped runics a great advantage and I shouldn't have to go in depth on this if ever a DEV reads this and has a clue on how the game works. If the slate is not wiped clean. Imbueding will be the 8th gallon of crap added to the already full 5 gallon crap bucket. As big as the warm fuzzy they think Imbueding will bring it will just feed new threads to ignore as other post.

And like anything added to the game or been part of the game for scripting and duping tards to take advantage oft here is a cure. THE DAMN GAME NEEDS TO BE POLICED. Stop thinking the cure for the game is purely layed on the shoulders of Code Mages and hire a few to Observe players. I'd pay more monthly if policing the game was effective to protect honest play style. How many the idiots causing problems with the game be gone if the frost, val spots and buckler NPCs had been monitored when the Library and Museum turn in kicked off. Wont take but a few investigating and flaming the tards for the word of mouth to get around that the BS stops now. Just the power to see hidden / get into backpacks and packy / and follow a player about would be enough. I'd deal with the hassle as an honest player my stuff pulled from my pack to see if I wsa scripting would happen. Theese game police don't need the power to bann but turn in reports to those that are already paid from our monthly charge to act in our best interest. Are already expected to enforce the ROC and stop rewriting it to meet the lacking Nads. You only respond to threads that seem to hit at the heart of what is upsetting the players when the cure is to easy tostop most threads started.

How easy it be to make many shards happy burning the tards dropping books about Luna caught on one shard. Doesn't take a rocket science to know that an ICQ and a value put to a million gold in a book is wrong. And it is something that should not be put up with for months.

And like farting in a gale force wind another post is set free.

Yuuup. Devs, listen to this one. Instead of finding crafty ways to ban or control scripting.... why not just stop adding things to the game that hand a clear advantage to those that script? Don't make taming so god-awful. Don't put fantastic rewards on the top of a (for a normal player) 3 month donation schedule at the library. Don't give me 47 Squirrel Statue recipes when all I want is the darn Elven dresser: east.

Tedious may keep your subscribers timesinking to get what they want, but it's not making them happy and it's not making them honest. You're getting half scripter, half disgruntled sick-of-farming player when you add this kind of EverFarm systems. It's junk.

Imbueding will be the 8th gallon of crap added to the already full 5 gallon crap bucket. As big as the warm fuzzy they think Imbueding will bring it will just feed new threads to ignore as other post.
I think imbuing will get pressure off EA for like, 2 months. Because people will be obsessed with the omg new flashy skill and figuring out all kinds of new gear to make with it. So people may temporarily be out of the itemization gear balance and no one knows what's best anymore and the glass ceiling hasn't been reached. After that, all the PvP'ers and top unemployed PvM'ers and PvM guilds will be in precisely the same imbued gear, which everyone else will spend the next couple months trying to get as well. Then it's right back to a worse version of square one.

Though I know it's way too late for UO to backtrack on this one, the solution is to remove or seriously minimize the itemization. Not to tack on more crap that lets you even further stratify quality levels of gear. EverFarming FTW.

The 2d doesn't. It should though. It coudln't be that hard to put in a "mark as quest item" box, the menu is almost the same otherwise.

Is there any way they can use those funky images they have when you sign up on the web for an account? Something a bot can't read but a player could. Maybe a picture of an animal.

You could tie it into the elven way.. "Here is a picture of one of nature's wonders. If you can correctly identify this creature, I will happily trade with you."

Then make the rewards less difficult, but put a timer on how often you can take the quest. Upshot is the same number of rewards come out over the same time period, but with less grinding. You simply check back in 10 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour.. however long.. and try another quest.

So... currently for the saws, it takes ohh, maybe 12 hours of crafting for a saw. This would make it, ohhhhh, maybe 36 hours or more to get a runic? I don't think so.

The whole BOD and Heartwood system needs revamping I think.

At the moment without scripters runics would cost so freaking much, which would mean that armors cost huuuge amounts. This would just widen the gap between RL money users and normal players.

I'm glad that people script runics, good armor/weps would otherwise be just for the ones willing to pay $$ for em.

I gave one idea what to do to with heartwood quests, but dunno what to do to bods... What I know is just that the way system runs now, we almost need the scripters, and that is wrong.

If it wasnt for the scripters you would not be able to buy the bows you like or armor you want!

All these community collections, heartwood quests were practically made for scripting!

Another way to look at it is that if there weren't scriptors, we would pay for the time it took honest people to get the runics and we wouldn't have so many overpowered items made by scripted runics and duped runics. I fail to see that scriptors are doing us any favors.

The game economy and players would be much better without any scriptors and dupers, regardless of how you try to justify it.

Most are really confused by the difference between kr scripters and illegal program scripters. And to think about it click once in KR make them all and marked as quest that is the beauty of the KR scripting system.

Anyway no kr scripting and no other form of scripting then high end fletch runics will go for 300mil and up because 1) Anybody who plays uo and has less than 20 mil at this moment is considered poor" 2)There be 1 or 2 person per shard that have the time "obsession" to stay at heart wood 2 months doing everything by hand and finaly receive that high end runic.
Same goes for any other system all items and highly sort after equipment will raise in price to 100mil and up.
Sounds good to me as most of us vets already have all we need and them some so we can resell all our items that we already bought and gathered in that price range. Sadly those players who havent being around long enough to aquire wealth will be crushed. Oh well every war has there casulties in this case we can sacrifice the broke players and the players who dont play everyday.
Lets all raise our hands to make the heartwood and other systems harder and remove KR macros and any outside programs. Hear! Hear!

Heh... how could it be any harder? I use the KR macro sometimes, and have used 2D extensively for the Heartwood quests. It is actually FASTER using KR without the auto-make ten items, and hit the make new button repeatedly. Faster than UOA in 2D or using the built-in KR repeat macro.

However, I do use the repeat macro feature in KR if I want to read news while crafting.... it's just not the fastest, but faster than 2D and saves the mouse!

Well I guess is faster in a way that after 2 hours doing quest in heartwood in 2d you want to rip youre arms out and curse the world you live in and quit for the day compared KR clicking 1 or 2 buttons for 8 hours or so and then take a cleaver and chop your right hand with youre left then use your mouth to naw youre other hand and then quit for the day.
So you last longer in kr than 2d before the emo style inevitable end.

Account Caps is the solution along with increase chance of reward. Say maximum 20 quests per day per account with 100 times more chance of a runic.

Not a character cap or shard cap because if it is a character cap or shard cap you can log into another of your 6 characters or the 30 shards to do more quests.

The benefit is customers will still be encouraged to open more accounts, and scriptors dont have an advantage by scripting it 23x7.

The same should apply to tailor and blacksmithy BODs too. Account Cap it.

Thas fine for heartwood as long they make the chances 1000x times better. Will be bad for those leveling up though so that will be a big downside.
Not for bods I wouldnt want to sprend my 1 day of pure bod filling turning in a week to having to do it every day.
