Character transfer error!

I just tried to transfer a character from Atlantic to Chesapeake. Everything was going fine, checked the transfer crate before leaving, everything (including my packies) was correct.
I got a message saying the transfer had failed, i gave the "all follow me" command so my pets wouldnt roam around, I saw my packies re-appear, then boom, the transfer goes. After the wait, I log into Chessy and the pets arent there, I log into another char on Atlantic and they are still there!

I paged a gm but got a canned response about how they do-not replace lost items.... grrr

Just got my second canned response from the GM's about how they cannot assist in this matter, does anyone know they customer support phone number?

Thank you, I actually found it by searching here at stratics (couldnt find it on the EA site) I have sent multiple PMs, and am currently on hold to customer support. My paper doll shows 0 pets, so i dont even know if a transfer back to atlantic would even help.

When I click on my character the "open transfer crate" option is there, but selecting it doesnt do anything. So I know there is some kind of error, but the GM's wont help, I only hope I can get some assistance before the packies go wild :(

Are the packies in fel? If so, log into another character and kill them to get the items back.

edit: or get a character to keep an eye on them. not sure if they drop items when go wild or not...

Unfortunatly no, they are in tram. Does anyone know is there a waiting period on character transfers? I really dont want to, but I may need to try going back to Atlantic with this character.

Probably a stupid question but are loaded (I assume you have stuff on yours) pets included in the transfer?

If not, then maybe that´s the reason they are left behind...

Yes there is a 24 hour waiting period between transfers.

Yes, packies with items in them "normaly" get transfered.

There is a file in your UO folder that you may want to check to confirm what actually transferred. The file seems to include information for all character transfers you initiated from that particular computer using a particular client, so it can get quite lengthy. The information for the most recent transfer will show up at the end of the file. You can find it under Program Files\EA Games\Ultima Online The Eighth Age\translog.txt. (Substitute your UO version for "Ultima Online The Eighth Age.")

Once you open the file, scroll up from the bottom until you get to the lines that show the date of the transfer transaction you had a problem with. About the fifth line down should be a Transfer ID number that might be helpful for your discussion/correspondence with customer support. About two lines below that should be a line that shows the total number of items transferred.

WOW I never knew that log was there. I open the log, and it shows 2 transfers, an older one, and below it is a breakdown of everything I transferred with. The header for this transfer has nothing listed.... so my transfer was messed up, if only the GM's would see it that way.

I tried using the ask a question via the knowledgebase at EA.com, and I got an email with the same canned responses I got from the GM's. That they cannot replace lost or stolen items (they aren’t lost.... YET!)

I am still on hold with customer support (going on 45 minutes now). Overall I am more disappointed in the lack of support than I am over the problem itself. I paged 3 times with carefully worded messages trying to explain the situation... but I still got the canned messages. I am simply frustrated.

Finally talked to someone via the support #, and they told me there was nothing they could do, that this needs to be handled by the ingame CS's.

I explained to him that I was getting canned responses, and that I even included the transfer ID # in the last message, only to get the "we do not repleace lost items" message.

The support person then told me to just keep messaging ingame support, he said "just because that CS didnt help you, the next one might"

So I am sorry to anyone else in the GM que tonight, I will be messaging them until I go to bed.

Yeah, I stumbled on it myself a couple of weeks ago when I was trying to locate the music files.

Good luck getting some help. I hope the pack animals are somewhere safe where you or a friend can keep an eye on them. When one goes wild, it SHOULD drop its pack contents to the ground in a backpack that says something like "the contents of A's backpack" (assuming you named the pack animal "A.")

If I can be of any assistance to you on Atlantic, just PM me.

Thanks for the offer, i'll be fine. The packies are holding books of junk bods, so its not like its a huge loss if I dont get them. Its just frustrating because those BODs were going to keep me busy filling and handing in for a few weeks. Now I have nothing to do (again).

Like I said before, I am more unsettled by the complete lack of support than I am the potential loss of the items. It's really sad.

Isn't it sad that the only way to get someone to actually show up is if you page over and over.

I've had problems in the past and my first 10 or so pages were ignored and finally it's like the person working the GM queue that night got done with their raid and decided to come help.

The outcome? After 6 gm pages (each with about an hour in the que) 4 PM's to various EA workers, and 2 phone calls.... abosolutly nothing.

I stayed up as late as I could, but at 3 am I had to call it a night as I need to be up by 7:30 to take my son to school.

With EA's policy of not replacing items (now that they are actually gone) I don't expect anything else to happen either. I dont know if they can look into the reason of the failed transfer, I will find out once they get into work today.

So in the end, the transfer system failed, and then customer suport failed.

Did you contact the Community folks? Joanne etc.? Might be a good Next Step.

This is disgraceful.

I think you should be compensated when/if this gets properly looked at because the way you have been handled is shocking.

Its not surprising in the slightest though, in fact, its what I've come to expect from the UO customer service people.

no, it does not excuse the poor handling of these pages/calls/pm's even if by some stroke of luck you had recovered them

Yes as soon as my alarm went off this morning, nothing there. I have yet to hear anything from the PM's I sent last night, but I understand it is still early for them.

Its made all the more insulting by the 'Spada want to hear from you about your CS experiences' thread on the front page of Uhall. Apparently no one wanted to hear when it mattered.

Btw what were your pack animals called? If they were one, two, three, four & five and if the weight is anything to go by (like with beetles) than they were empty yesterday. Though it might have just been someone else.

That was their names... they appeared empty because they were each carrying 2 BOD books, so their weight showed as 15 stones, even though they were full (item count).

the lack of customer support in this game is just amazing... omfg I'll pay a buck more amonth but freaking hire some peopel to do ingame support ( I wont even mention out of game support , 2 months wait for an account xfer !!!! )

3 packies worth of stuff , not sure what u hauled on it.. I hoped u carried and banked the most expensive stuff , but still ....

I would help ya out but EA deleted bout 300-400 mill worth of my stuff last time they went dynamite fishing.... HEY !!! maybe they thought u where duping and just deleted ya gear.... one can never know..... not with this game....

How "junk" were these BODs? I'm not sure how many of my accounts have characters on Chesapeake, but I'm sure at least a couple do. I could see about adding enough points in tailoring or smithing or both to go collecting more junk BODs for you. At least it would give you something to do. ;)

They were only small cloth and small iron BOD's. I use them to fill and hand in trying to get good ones. I actully used to buy them from other players on Chesapeake, but I can no-longer find anyone that sells them.

I would be grateful to anyone that would be willing to hook me up with some on Chessy, I will even pay for them... please PM me if interested.

Yes that was the second thing I did this morning. I thought maybe the fact that the option was there last night, but didn't do anything would get fixed at server up, but it is still the same.

This is the exact reason i play World of Warcraft now.

I lost all my companions through a bug. got into contact with a gm within an hour or so, and they ever gave me updates while they were in the process of returning my lost companions. one even asked me if i was busy and should come back later. after about 3 days, a gm contacted me and said my pets were in the mail. problem solved.

if it were UO, i would have gotten a canned response like you. and FFS, you had a problem with a PAID CHARACTER TRANSFER. what a waste of money.

Just another reason why the CS service staff need to be FIRED!

EA has got to be the worst company for this and sadly they'll never change. I get shirty with EA's CS's now due to thier complete lack of knowledge, care or anything that comes close to CS. I dont suppose you had GM Thowe or his name simular to that? I had an issue with Weak and Feeblemind having a perminate effect on me. He wouldnt even help.

I sack members of staff for this level of ignorance, EA should look at thier customer profile a bit more...

Actually sack the CS Supervisors/Manager, afterall its thier staff thats screwing up, thier staff that cant do the job and its the Managers job to make sure that its done to the Customers level of satisfaction. After all WE PAY THIER WAGES, bunch of lazy a*** ******* ***** *coughs* sorry. the GM's are useless bar the odd one whom actually cares. The arses (GM's) dont know what the heads (DEV's) are doing, and everything that the DEV's do to improve UO is destroyed by crap CS from the so called GM's.

My 1year old daughter could do a better job.

Now you have people who can barely speak english answering their phones and sending you generic responses.



Low budget game here folks. Milking all they can for profit. Hence no fixes for years of cheating/bugs etc.


So don't be upset when things don't work. Just be grateful the servers came up after the daily server down.

I got to thinking about your problem....



Last year this happened to someone else. Although most didn't read about it.

Some duper has a bunch of the very rare vine sandals ( the + resists ones). he transfered and his pets were left behind.

Some noob gets the packs off them when they go wild. He was selling 20 pairs of vine sandals. I think he started at a million per before he knew what he had. Anyway, just remembered this and thought I would share.


My guess is, this is a rare bug. Pets with the transfer are unreliable and this bug isn't happening often because your reduced to a small chance, of a small amount of people transfering with pets....

And you KNOW...if this bug effects soooo few people, they won't fix it when they don't fix bugs that hinder the whole community.


Friending someone on your shard does seem like a way to buy some safety when transfering pets though.

I have a suspicion that the cause could be something as simple as the last command to the packhorses having been 'stay' rather than 'all follow me'.

A few quick answers before I head out for today.

No the shard or my client didnt crash during the xfer, just the "failed transfer" message.

The last command I gave the pets was all follow me.

And no, still no update.

The character still has the "open transfer crate" option, even though selecting it does nothing. (im sure this won't help either, as the transfer log shows that nothing transfered. not the stuff the character was wearing, or the contents of his bank and backpack, even though that stuff did transfer)

I guess I will hear something on monday, perhaps friday was some sort of EA holiday and no-one was in the office?

You know it never used to be like this. A few years back GM's responded to pages and actuality tried to help. Anyone remember the advanced char service when it first came out? A GM would have to come and do the char manually, back then you actually saw GM's in game. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a GM in game. I know there invisible. But every now and then you would see one at a house helping a citizen. In this case it probably would have been easy to move the packies to the transferred shard and been done with it. This is truly sad.


I used to be a lead GM for a online game and we never responded to paying customers with canned responses and terrible service, because when you did subscriptions tended to suffer in the end.
