Character transfer error!

Even the things you were wearing didn't transfer?
The items I was wearing and the contents of my backpack and bank box did transfer, but in the transfer log, it shows that nothing transfered. And my character still has the "open transfer crate" option, even though selecting it does nothing. My transfer messed up, and I would like for someone at EA to look into why....

A few quick answers before I head out for today. . . I guess I will hear something on monday, perhaps friday was some sort of EA holiday and no-one was in the office?
Please let us know what you find out.

BTW I am not sure what chars I have on Chesapeake but I imagine I have some that have stuff of some kind on them. You are welcome to whatever I have. I can also get you some junk BODs.

I appreciate the offers, I really do, and I'm going to try and say what I need to without sounding like a jerk.... but I don't want it to seem like I am seeking a handout. I prefer to work for everything I get (RL and in-game). If anyone is willing to collect "junk" BODs on Chesapeake and sell them to me, I will gladly buy them, just PM me or ICQ.

I started this thread because the transfer system (and the GM's) failed, and I would like to know why (and if anything can be done about my transfer). Every response in this thread has been great, and I appreciate all the support and encouragement from the community. Again, I don’t want to come off like an a-hole or anything, I just want people to know where I stand.

4gregu, I found 12 characters on Chessie. I bought small amounts of skill in both smithing and tailoring on 11 of them. One still had the +5 AoS skill available but no gold so she took 5 points in tailoring. When my sister (Aboo) takes her lunch break she's going to help me transfer gold to the one without any so she can buy a bit of smithing. So far I have 11 smithing BODs and 12 tailoring BODs for you. All junk, of course. :D

Later I may try to get them all to New Haven where my sister says an inn, tailor shop, and smith shop are all in close proximity to one another making it fast to log in and get the BODs. Currently, 11 of them are in Cats Lair in Brit, Trammel, and one is in Umbra. Let me know when you'd like to take some of these off my hands. No rush, they've all got a long way to go to worry about being overloaded by either weight or items.

You didn't ask, we offered. I realize the thread's purpose was to try to get some attention for what is obviously a bug with the process. I can't do anything about bugs in-game, but helping one another out when it's possible is precisely what community is all about, in any world - real or virtual. Wouldn't do me any good to have you pay me for junk BODs, anyway, I don't play Chessie.

Just be a good UO player, and let me have my "good-deed-for-the-week" fun. It's not like it's really taking anything from me to spend a few minutes picking up BODs for you on a shard I don't play.

If you really want to pay me, then keep your eyes peeled. I'm a firm believer in what-goes-around-comes-around. If you watch, I'm sure you'll find an opportunity come your way to help someone else. Seize that opportunity, and I am repaid.

I've been watching this thread closely and I decided to go ahead and transfer anyhow. I loaded up 5 packies each with about 125 items for a grand total of 800+ items with no problem.

I think the problem with the pet has to do with the "All Follow me" command as someone else mentioned. I'm not saying there isn't a bug of some kind. I do know from experience when becoming stuck and using the 'help option' your pets will not follow you unless they are in "follow mode". Somehow I think this 'feature' probably applies to the character transfer and I thought I read 4Gregu said at the very last minute he was shouting "All Follow me"..sounds like it may not have registered in time.

Anyhow....4Gregu I am sorry for your loss I understand how frustrating it must be for you but I do want to make it known that I had no problems when transferring just yesterday with 5 packies.

I admire your stance on this and will do it however you wish. If I have anything like Christmas gifts etc on Chessie and you are interested you can trade for LS if you have any.

However, as for the junk BODs I would have no use for gold on Chessie, but if you insist on paying for them, could you kindly donate the gold to someone you feel is worthly and needs some help?

I checked just one account (I have 7 but not chars on all 7 accounts on all shards) and I have at least 6 chars on Chessie. The one I checked has a Christmas ticket from this year plus past Christmas boxes and a valentines box. They are all yours if you want them along with anything the other chars have.

BTW did you know that Devil_Woman is my RL OLDER sister :D? She's pretty awesome if you ask me.

Yay, finally someone has gotten in touch with you. I hope that if nothing else, this incident helps prevent this bug from getting worse or more prevalent.

I play on Chessy, too, although I don't have any crafters. I'm a returning player...haven't tried BODs out yet. Quite alot of content is new to me. :)

I have a little gold and other misc items, though. If I can be of any help, please let me know!

That's one thing that I feel has always been a shining feature of UO's community - compassion and a helpful, giving spirit.

The players are what make this game just that much more wonderful and enjoyable. Even when bugs/exploits/errors strike, there always seems to be someone there to make the situation *alot* better! :)

Memories and friends, new and old, have always been what has enticed me to return to Sosaria, no matter how long of a break I might have taken.

**update**

After a few PM's to Spada, there has been a partial resolution to my problem. I won't go into all the details, but as expected they could not replace the lost items.
As per the "open transfer crate" still being stuck on my character, Spada requested I page ingame to see if a gm can remove it. I have tried twice, waiting 45 minutes the first, and an hour an 10 minutes the second time before I had to log out. I should have about 2 hours straight tonight to devote to trying to get that resloved, but I imagine the gm will only tell me the transfer crate is empty.

My overall feeling on this is that although the GM staff failed that night, I think Spada has done everything he can to help. I just hope they are now better trained and prepaired to handle this problem the next time it happens to someone.

I will post again once I get a gm to come look at my transfer crate.

You know it never used to be like this. A few years back GM's responded to pages and actuality tried to help. Anyone remember the advanced char service when it first came out? A GM would have to come and do the char manually, back then you actually saw GM's in game. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a GM in game. I know there invisible. But every now and then you would see one at a house helping a citizen. In this case it probably would have been easy to move the packies to the transferred shard and been done with it. This is truly sad.


I used to be a lead GM for a online game and we never responded to paying customers with canned responses and terrible service, because when you did subscriptions tended to suffer in the end.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was first making a tamer, back before soul stones... I had a GM mage with like 80ish inscription on my account, and I had no room for another character.. So I decided that I'd just add taming to his template. Well, after a few weeks of the torture that is taming, I decided it'd be easier to just totally remake the character and buy an advanced tamer char to replace him. And sure enough, a GM showed up in the pixles and made my char up for me from scratch. I didn't get the inscription or magery back of course, but it was still a great experience. It showed an extra level of appreciation that while maybe I didn't expect, I did feel I deserved for paying $20 on top of my subscription fee's for a few starter skill points.

When I came back to UO a few weeks ago, one of my characters was stuck in a portion of New Haven-- Where the Inn used to be in Old Haven. Its apparently a barricaded off area now. So I hit the "Help" option, ready to select the little Minoc or Britain button on the tele gump... And it actually makes me go through a full-out page.

Well, 45 minutes later, I'm still standing around in an area with absolutely no way out. This character didn't have any form of recall on him, as his runebooks were out of charges. So I log into another character figuring I may actually have to delete him since I can't get customer service.

Well, about an hour after that, a GM contacts me saying he can fix my character now. I told him I was in the middle of something just then, but would be able to hop back on the character in about 10 minutes. Well, I did, and it seems he fixed it without me having to change characters at all... But then I got a email for that standard feedback survey, and it said "The help option is not a free teleportation service. Please do not use it if you are not genuinely stuck." After the poor service time I got, the last thing I expected was to have the validity of my page questioned.

I've never done a character transfer, but I can say that for you to spend money above and beyond your subscription fee's, EA should offer that extra level of support as a courtesy like they used to. It seems its missing in action these days.
