LOL. Clearly you've never played one. This one is hosted in the US and I ping better than I do on oceania. Why? Because unlike EA, they support their servers and have actually upgraded them to the 21st century.

well Sneaky Que I guess the only thing to say is this.

We both argree on alot of our different play styles. We also disagree on some of our different play styles too. But I think you will agree with me on this. We both love this cheesy game. Or we would not have been playing it for so long.

Now back to the olden days.

Remember playing UO on a 56K modem? and dropping every half hour or so? Or was that just me? LOL.
How about when you gated people you never knew how much they would give ya when you reached your destiation.

PET COMMANDS - More than just the basic follow/kill we have now, pets could be ordered to guard a specific location, or a number of them and patrol between them. Also they could guard each other, so if you had two pets guarding each other they fought in unison whenever one of them was flagged on. And the "speak" command, did nothing but make the pet bark, growl, whatever, but it was kinda cute.

SMITH SHOPS - And the trust built up by having a regular smithy you went to for repairs, etc, before the advent of repair contracts. You'd give the smith your most treasured weapon or armour piece and you could be assured they'd repair it and return it good as new. Sure there was the odd scammer lurking about, but on the whole if you kept to people you knew you were okay. I've got a weapons engraving business now, haven't had a single person willing to hand over their weapon & have it engraved even though I'm on a high profile character of good standing.

I have logged on to quite a few actually, no I havnt played any extensively but you don't need to to see lag. It actually has more to do with Australia upgrading their internet to the 21st century... not EA (Australia has one of the worst internet networks of any developed country, thanks Telstra...). Yes the lag to US free shards is less than to EA US shards but it is still considerably more than my average 10ms ping to Oceania :p

while australia gets slow times to, well anywhere, uos lag issues have more to do with server code than anything. uo is an old game, and uses old tech. there is little to no way around this. wow has much newer tech and it also has serious lag issues. i watch mates play and theyre swinging at something across the screen, or thats already dead - thats the server and the client on two different pages cos of lag.

uo is just an old game. good (well potentially...) but old.

Nuke AoS. What an ugly abomination that was, and that is the single thing that has irrepairably broken UO in my mind.

Trammel, to a lesser extent too, but that'll make too many people cry.

Does anyone remember thy old menu screen when we were crafting? telling us what we could easily craft..what was medium and what was hard. That little blue menu...Not like it is today. with skills and how hard it would be...

But just a little blue screen with 5 items that we could make at that time?

Also tents...Nuff said there.

1. I miss doom and the campers in there.

as for the people who loved fel and thinks there shouldnt be a trammel... isnt there a shard that is mainly fel all the way... siege... perhaps my memory is failing me.

2. I miss WBB wonderfully watching private casinoes running there and seeing people trying to sell or buy something

3. I miss collecting of rares. Nowadays it seem pointless collecting rares coz UO might launch funny things again like Heritage coins etc. Its painful for those who bought rares for millions. Now yearning or envying rares is rare.

4. I miss building up a character and having trial and errors along the way. Part of learning and part of bonding with the game.

5. I miss old players and friends.

I miss the old community that once was and things like this:

I also miss things like:
Blad standing at the bank 24x7 in the worst attire possible
Emerald running around being a pancake
Foot being a wierdo both on the forums and in game
and Fink and Feenicks being well, Fink and Feenicks, especially those pics of the sub, sure they both are communistic spies.

Ive noticed the main problem that seems to reacure (cant spell), seems to be community based. People wish the banksitting life was what it once was. I for one agree. I miss WBB, i was very depressed sitting inside Luna.

I think most of this would be solved if they removed animal bonding and BOS. People would have to do trips to the bank far more often. People would be forced to interact to buy and sell mounts and the tamer would become usefull again.

*Smiles* Hi everyone, by the way.

HI U!!!!

Yes, agree that the TAMING has gone out of Taming. It's all about the All Kill now, next to no market for animals etc. Used to be a skill in itself to go get specific ostard colours for people, etc. With basic transport (aka horses) available from the stables, there's really no need for bonded mounts. People who care about their pixel mounts (you know who you are, admit it!) would be a bit more cautious about throwing them into danger.

As a compromise, you could only bond pets you tamed yourself.. that way tamers would have their trainable/keeper pets, tamers who buy from other tamers would still create a market for high-end pets, and normal people would likewise have to buy replacement mounts from tamers if they want something more exotic than a stable horse.

Heh, I used to get ridable llamas, sell them at wbb, then watch people not being able to mount them, unless of course a small fee was payed then they were shown whereabouts to go.

Very cool idea, and I agree it would be great to see alot more things added for player interaction like the need for food and better food coming from a player chef rather then being able to buy the same sort of quality foods from an npc.

I use to like cooking with my chef and I did enjoy tryin to sell or trade pets at brit bank long ago.

aye thy days of long ago...where it took about an hour to go from one side to another.
Where people had everyting and anything up for sale. Could find just about anything at a very good price.

The sneaky little training thief trying to take stuff out of your pack before getting guard wacked and everyone laughing.

The very cool people that would sit on top of brit bank and just idle for hours on in.

The place to talk about different hunting spots. Or talk about the newest or oldest red out there. Where they might be hidding and so forth.

not quite UO-online but what I miss from when I first played Ultima

- PvP consisting entirely of waiting for a player to start a battle then sneaking behing the monitor and yanking the power cable out He he mean but funny.
- Graphics bah fancy pants younguns and their multi colour displays we were happy with 8 colours and 2 were white and 2 were black.
-hitting the wrong key and discovering a command you did not know existed who needs manuals anyway.
-instant unrecoverable doom of disc crash during write operation.

But most of all the adventure and surprise of discovering something you never expected to be in the game

I was always an east Britain bank kind of guy.

I recall Vesper bank being pretty popular for a long while there also, does anyone else remember that? There were some good vendors just to the north of Vesper along the river.

That said, after being back for about a month now, there are a lot of good new things in the game also!

BBWBB!

Wait a minute...

I used to be a regular at Vesper Bank. I'd ride or walk down from the twin player villages that FEZ guild had north of there in both Felucca & Trammel (we had a library of moonstones on both facets for easy travel between the towns). I was pretty much a staunch local, doing all my lumberjacking, taming, fishing, vending, and shopping in the same area.

I still did that for a long while, but eventually started banking in Britain. It was great to have a choice, so I guess I miss that aspect.
