A mp5 is not illegal to have in the states you can have one with a special ffl which is a Federal Class III License which is very expensive to obtain other than that there is no other way to have a auto weapon there are versions of the mp5 that are not auto like the ar 15 vs the m4 same wep just no burst on the ar 15. yea you cannot take government property home i would have loved to take some of my equipment when i got out but they keep a list on everything you have and a weapon is hela tracked. I for one do not have a license to have fully auto weapons only people that can get the class III are usually dealers that actually sell thees things and demo them to government officials but you can still get one if you qualify just cause your some chief of something doesn't allow you to own one of thees weapons. also has one of those .223 Squad auto gun thingies. . . Haven't shot it yet cus ammo has been so pricey, but that thing looks to be a winner on all channels.
He only has it because he was a rep for s&w for years and, yeah i think it was more of a business venture for him.. Hes sold weapons in Zimbabwe and ****.

depends on what make it is but they very from what you payed up to 2500 bucks aks are one of the cheapest on the market that is why all them (gotta be politically correct here) middle eastern people use them.

one of them has the folding stock, i know that one is the more rare of the three.
ones basically standard issue, the other is the one with like.. its hard to explain, its got like a 'hole' through the grip for your thumb instead of a handle?? hard to explain, i know its kinda rare.
In order it sounds like you have 3 variants(theres a bunch)
AKM(possibly), standard ak-47, and a Mak-90. All 3 use the ak clips, but the mak 90 won't take the 'standard' buttstock and pistol grip from a regular if i recall. Some weird brady bill thing i imagine.
Just posting so you have lil more info for price/value comparison.
