turning in 1 Halloween costume for one of the new costumes is very fair especially when we can pick which one we want.

It's not 1 for 1. This works pretty much like the spring cleaning (with a friendlier UI - at least I think so!)

Each Halloween costume has a value based on rarity, the rarer costumes being worth more obviously. Sarah's costumes also have a different cost. So for example, it might take 3 skeleton costumes to get 1 exotic costume, or a single gazer costume for that same exotic costume.

In some cases, it will be 1 Halloween costume for 1 (or more) exotic costume(s). But in most cases, it will be the other way around.

She never said one for one and since she said it would be more beneficial for us to have turned them in the first time I would say it will probably take more than 5 this go around to get a new costume. The one for one thing is for the costume to costume. You have an old skele one laying around and you can get a new "XYZ" one from the NPC.

And as for the having to log in to get Christmas presents, PLEASE! I honestly only have one account with the max number of players on every shard but really did it take that long to log on and get them. If you weren't playing the characters and didn't take the time to log in to get Christmas stuff, then that's your fault. It's NOT UO's fault!

The thing I hate the most is all those Heritage Tokens. Man that is just soo sad. Seems like you'd get the stuff if you paid for the game the next time you logged on... We didn't ever not pay them.

And they make more money too if you pay for an account and don't use it.

Sampires already get a piece of the pie. A big one. I'm not sure what the complaint is unless you want a plain Chiv warrior to be able to tank like a GD.

BTW there is such a thing as posting too much, it's called spam. When one makes multiple posts about the same subject, it is spamming. When one makes multiple threads about trivial subjects it is also spamming. There is no rule as to the exact number of posts, it's up to the moderator's discretion on what they consider to be spam. Much like the rest of the rules. The Rules of Conduct are a guideline, and the mods/admins have the ultimate say on how the rules are enforced. Just FYI.

Why would the NPC want tons of junk. Shes a mask maker. Or something like that.

Contextually, that's true.
The mask-maker would probably only want existing masks, or the ingredients to make them.

However, from a design point of view, creating a seasonal event that has a prerequisite of having cruft from the previous seasonal event isn't good.
There's a big difference between rewarding those that took the chance in hanging on to possibly worthless items (or forgot/didn't get the chance to turn them in), and basing an entire trade-in around them, to the exclusion of all other players.

Of course, there are several big assumptions that are made with this:
1.) There will be no other way to earn trade-in points, or otherwise acquire the new items.
2.) The trade-in is the extent of the seasonal event, which I'm somewhat doubting.

I don't know what game you've been playing, but I've played UO for over 10 years now and it's always been that you had to log in your character's within a 30 day window to get your holiday gifts.

I really can't understand why anyone would think this was new or an imposition. I've missed logging some of my toons in, in time to get gifts, but that's my fault, not the Developer's or the games.

Just my 2 cents worth.

This is more akin to the blackrock traders except this time you actually get to pick what you get. It's simply an extra reward for those who participated in the Halloween event as well as a way of getting rid of all the extra lower end costumes that are eating up people's lockdowns.

There currently are no plans of reintroducing ways of farming the red crystals.

Everybody has to join some time. Those that missed - join now at XMAS. You can re-invent old events for those that haven't.

Whats the big deal the missed Halloween now the start with XMAS.

Storm Im not trying to give you a hard time. You can still participate in the event.

You have to buy the masks. Game gold is part of the game. You could buy masks now to trade in later. You could sell some of your wares and participate with the gold. You could fight a Boss and trade a reward you get from the boss.

I bought and traded for the mask Im turning in. Well all but 4. I hated getting the crystals.

My point is you can still get the new masks even if you didnt participate. You just go about it another way.


Any play can get anything in this game at anytime without having to bring back events.

At the very least, make it a proper 'trade in of junk' instead of limiting it to only the Halloween items, or have another way for people to get hold of these 'new' masks. Sounds like someone is mad they didn't listen when the devs said to save up extra masks, within plenty of time to do so. I believe at the time they even said it would be with the Christmas event, so no complaining about them being too vague there.

Sounds like someone is mad they didn't listen when the devs said to save up extra masks, within plenty of time to do so. I believe at the time they even said it would be with the Christmas event, so no complaining about them being too vague there.

Not saying it wasn't said, but I tend to try and keep myself in the loop, so if I didn't see that said, then it's not unreasonable to suggest others didn't.
(unless it was posted on the Herald, and I just failed to take it in, which sometimes happens).

Criticising the design doesn't instantly mean someone's "mad" about some part of it.
It just means they've found something to be critical about.
I might criticise it at length at some point, in a more civilised forum. Yes, I don't have a stockpile, and there's some of the costumes I want. Am I mad about it? No, because trading is as much a part of the game as earning the items yourself.

I bet she knows how to modify the masks so she would use the ones people traded in to get the ones she gives out.

Just trim a shadow wyrm costume + ethy retouching tool and viola! a drake costume!

Yeah, but if she's a new NPC, then there's no way she's old enough to use one of the tools.

When the Halloween event was put together, it was always intended that players would have a greater variety of costumes available. We had hoped to get the trader out with the Thanksgiving publish but we couldn't make the cut-off date and so Sarah is out with the Holiday publish.

This is more akin to the blackrock traders except this time you actually get to pick what you get. It's simply an extra reward for those who participated in the Halloween event as well as a way of getting rid of all the extra lower end costumes that are eating up people's lockdowns.

There currently are no plans of reintroducing ways of farming the red crystals.

lot of people forgot or didn't get around to turn in all their red crystals before the event ended. So we had the option of either letting them trash their crystals (or use them for decorations) or give them one last chance to turn them in. We chose the latter.

Generally speaking, it was more beneficial to have turned them in during the event than it will be trading them with Sarah. But at least those who missed the deadline now have a final chance to do so IF they want to. Note however that turning in red crystals now will NOT give you one of the old Halloween costumes.

And yes, you can choose the costumes you want from her.

I got ONE of each Halloween costumes and then stopped. I collected the blue crystals. IMHO, you are rewarding the power gamers and 24/7 script-jerks. I feel that casual gamers like my sister and I Do not count.

The Devs have said they'd like to be rid of the cash-for-item brokers in UO. Yet badly communicated ideas like this is what fuels them, because I would say 99% of those who want a full set of the costumes will do like I plan to and go through a broker.

I'm happy to trade with people but it is difficult on my shard. So I'm a bum and I take the easy road, its my game time, my dinero, and my life.
I play UO to make ME happy not to please anyone else.

Too many assumptions, I don't care much about 'collecting' a set (didn't even get the all the original 5 masks) and not "mad" about anything - I am very disappointed , though, that the mixed messages regarding cleaning up items versus hoarding items carries on. It seems to fall back to the usual UO situation - someone designs a good system, but it isn't completed in some arbitrary timescale, so it's rolled out anyways and then kludged into something else.

What we have now is an 'event' that people who were not around for an earlier one can't take any part in, and even if you are right that the Devs 'said' hoard masks (which I don't recall reading, but no big deal, my memory is not perfect) only people who read a particular forum would know about that. The clear incentive for the future is grab as many of everything you humanly can, just in case it's 'useful later, whilst vaguely supporting the concept that people have way too many items and this is a good way to help them clear some storage space. As it's developed, the original hint as quoted earlier was 'you may want to hang on to duplicates' - from the size of the list of new masks it looks like the advice should have been 'stock up on as many as you can carry', which is in tone and impact a far thing from suggesting people keep 'duplicates'.

What, precisely, is the message we are meant to get from this? Grab more stuff? Clear stuff out? Read a particular forum or not know what to do?

It's all as usual, messy, inconsistent and unmanaged (as opposed to 'overreacted to') - and unnecessary if they had stuck with the original concept, got it done in time, and rolled it out in one go (or even made it two seperate stages of an ongoing 'story).

But it's UO, the terms completed and on time never seem to go together, decent ideas get mangled by being rushed, and getting it right according to a well thought through plan is always secondary to 'get something out fast and tape it together later'.
