Replying to myself....... I did some playing around with the Tailoring Calculator and I think I've worked out the table above. If I've figured it correctly then you're looking for something with a 55% exceptional chance at 100, 60% excep at 105; 65% at 110; 70% at 115 and 75% at 120.

So a couple of SE entries:

So looking at your chart, if one has used a 120 powerscroll then one can make Cloth Ninja Hoods until 115? And then (using old chart) studded bustier/gloves until 117.9 and then Hiro Sode until 120?

That's right (note it's a STUDDED Hiro Sode). Only 5 points to gain using leather -- the hinds and cows will be pleased (not to mention a few aspiring Legendary Tailors)...

As I said, I haven't tested it but I believe the math is correct. I'll be testing it to 115 shortly and 120 shortly after.

That is huge news! I was trying to collect me 40k hides to go from 110.0 to 120.0.

I will start on the cloth nija hoods tonight and see how far they will take me, and post back to the thread.

Woah! Nice job.
So it is more than theory /php-bin/shared/images/icons/smile.gif (not that I had any doubts)

30k of cloth is a lot though it's still a lot cheaper/faster than using leather.

I'll be trying out Cloth Ninja Hoods with my 115 cap to validate that part of the table -- I just have to finish making oil cloths...

The Studded Hiro Sode part will be interesting too...

Duh.. Why didnt I think of that? I even have a friend who left me a key to their boat at a lesser spawn. LOL I will go there tonight. I only have 7k hides . I am sure it is going to take me more than 7k hides.

MMMMMM Tomartie farming for a different purpose. I am going to need a lot of powder for my sending bags...

Since I need to gather up at least 8k more hides to get going, I am probably not going to be able to get legendary tonight (that is if i choose to sleep). So my legendary post probably wont be until sat evening.

i just went from 100 to 109.6 making oil cloths. i used 9497 cloth and it took me 4 hours and 53 minutes.

so far i havent even had to spend any gold. i was walking out of the tailor shop and found someone leap-frogging 500 bolts to the bank. i took it and explained to them that the ground was not a secure place to keep thier cloth. they had some choice words for me and then left.

im going to start ninja hoods now

There were a couple of things I spotted in the tailoring table which I'll post once I've run a few more numbers but one worth noting is that oil cloths should take you to 99.8 if you're scrolled to GM -- not sure if the gains just slow down too much to be useful or if everybody (including me) has just followed the current table in the FAQ and not found the true limit -- I might also be wrong about 55% chance to make exceptional being the upper limit for gains at a 100 cap.

Yup, Smithing is next. I have a 110 scroll and am at 104.6. I am currently farming gold to save up 800 k so i can afford a +20 smithy scroll (I have seen them in the range of 450-800k on Napa).

well, so far it has taken me 32125 cloth to get to 113.6 tailoring. the gains have slowed way way down and im considering switching over to leather just to spead it up.

Sweet Deal. There's always only been 90 skill gains between having my mule totally complete, but I dreaded getting all the leather so never touched it. Now theres 49 since I started using cloth yesterday. Im in leathers now but it does seem so bad now that Im so much closer to 120.

Yeah, at that point, I would switch over and do some studded hiro sade and studded gloves to see if I got gains. But i would probably quickly go back to cloth because it is so much cheaper. Keep at it! you will get there.

Just plowed thrue about 40k cloth going from 109.6-115.0 making Cloth Ninja Hoods. Seeing the other numbers I'd say that 40k cloth sounds about the amount your looking at to hit 115.0(with recycling).

Bought 2x500 bolts from a npc vendor, left over is about 10k.

Now to gather some leather, be seeing you again in a couple of years

Ah well, took my trusty axe and wacked at some cows, gathered a total of 20.993 leather, then made nothing but the Studded Hiro Sode from 115-120 when I looked in my barrel after hitting 120, I had 2677 left soo 18.316 used.

This is info to keep me going. I do not have a macro program to push the buttons for me so it takes about an hour to go through 1000 cloth with around a +1.0+/- gain over that time.

Someone else posted that they went through 19K leather. Was that with cutting up the sleeves you made or selling them? I work in Jhelom on Legends and have found 8 NPC vendors there who will buy armor and I used them when I was working on my smithing.

I know that Ninja hoods are not worth selling as you only get 16Gp each normal or exceptional. Not sure of the return on Studded sleeve or Studded Hiro Sode and whether or not it is more cost efficient to sell and buy more leather or to cut apart and keep making then over and over again.

That's kind of a nasty thing to do .. but, you have to teach them somehow.
I made a bunch of potion kegs for a new player on Chesapeake, we went to the Luna bank and he handed me a check for 50k ... I told him "NEVER do that again. Always start a trade like that with something worthless (a bandage or a single reagent) then add the check to the trade window".

Anyway, back to tailoring. Couple of questions that I don't see here, maybe I'm just blind.

Was just working on my long-neglected tailor at 114.5, and found that leaf gorgets seem to be the next great thing to take you to 120. They take @12 leather (10 leather with recycling) and in about 5 minutes of training got 4 gains.

They require 90 tailoring to craft, the highest I've come across so far.

Ive found that when working my tailoring (cloth ninjia Hoods-115)If i use the sewing kits (self made) that have the smaller amout of uses (under 60) i gain way faster. I didnt want to throw away all my 75-150 use kits but now that I see the differance I think I will. I made bag of 100 kits and sorted them buy use #. Then I used all the lesser kits 1st and gaind way faster till I quit useing the ones over 65-70 uses and throw them away I get 1-3 tenths per kit under 60 and 0-1 tenth over 100, funny but true. Any one else try this, pls post it.

Finally got to Legendary Tailoring, those last few points seemed to go on forever.

One thing I thought I would add to this list is that instead of making Cloth Ninja Hood I made Elven Shirts (109.5-115) because it took only 10 cloth to make instead of 13 and I seemed to gain great off them.

95.1-109.6: Oil Cloth

117.9-120: Studded Hiro Sode

I'm not sure if this has ever been mentioned before, nor am I positive that it is accurate information, but on my journey to Legendary from Elder, I found that packing a bag with 50 NPC bought sewing kits (less than 80 uses), and setting a macro to use each individualsewing kit only once per macro improved the speed with which my skill increased ... tremendously! The painful compromise in doing this is that you must reset items manually when sewing kits are worn, and you will have to make a new macro every time the bag is emptied. I found it to be well worth the effort though.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, or has anyone tested to see if this even works? I don't see why it wouldn't, tailoring being item based and all, which should include both the items you make and the tools with which you craft them.

Anyway, I suggest trying it out if you're on your way to GM, Elder or Legendary. It just may save you money and time!

I'm at 89.0 and was at 88.0 was getting a .1 every 10 min. now it stopped?

Studded Hiro Sodes are better, they take less leather. The Hiros take 8 leather but you get 4 back from each one if you recycle so the net loss is only 4 each vs your 10 for the leaf gorgets.

Hey everyone, congrats on the gains.

I've just started the journey from 115 to 120. I've been gathering spined leather from lizardmen in despise as i've found this to be reasonably quick for my noob fighter. However if theres a better way i'd love to hear it. I've heard something about a cleaver auto cuttin the hides into leather? Cuts a step out? I spent an hour gathering 2500 spined tonight. Just been through 600 for .1 gain. This is gonna be painfull.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Butchers War Cleaver, that has Bovine Slayer on it. When I kill a cow, then skin it, the leather is cut, instead of in a pile. One less step.
