I think in the 10 plus years I've been playing my memory banks are pretty full.

I have literally hundreds of good trades, house placement, daily rare spawn grabs, and pvp mayhems that still stand out vividly in my mind.

I have to say one of the most pivotal memories I have was the first time (*Keep in mind this is what it was very very difficult*) I soloed an ancient Wyrven, bottom level of Destard.

Back when i did it there were no EV's, there was massive poison, a hit met certain death, and I literally ran from side to side e-bolting it to death.

It took about 30 minutes and made my night. :D

Share a memory that stood out for you in UO!

My memories from UO back in the day..... there was many but the one that stood out was when I first started. I had no idea what recall was. Was afraid to use it I guess. I would pick cotton in the fields of moonglow, get on my ship and said the seas to cities trying to sell for profits. Would spend hours and hours doing so. Then one day a friend showed me how to use recall and it changed everything lol.

When I first logged in back in 98, there was some sort of chaos going on, I was in Trinsic and there was a massive amount of people on. There was fighting everywhere and so much text on the screen I couldn't figure out what was happening.

Well I just kinda stood there and absorbed all of it, standing close to a wall and trying to stay out of the way. I couldn't really figure out why no one was attacking me yet but I was sure it was only a matter of time.

Soon after this realization, someone died right in front of me and I double clicked his body in morbid curiosity. Amazed at all the stuff the guy had I started pulling it over into my back pack. Once the guy was naked, my poor little character exploded in an orgy of pixelated goodness.

I've been hooked ever since.

Ahh, good memories.

I remember when I had first started I had absolutely no idea what these blue gates were all around. Even more curious when I was in Skara Brae and witnessed people going in and out of them. I was scared of what they were until one day I wandered into one. lol

This was when they would cycle between the locations.

Before I found the wonders of the local moongates I was walking/running between cities and sailing to moonglow, lol.

My most vivid memory is of the first time I jousted a dragon alone. It was actually a pet gone wild in the woods near the lich forest by Yew. It took me ages, lots of TR pots and my hands were shaking like leaves. I was so elated when it finally succumbed.
Of course my husband's memory of my exploits goes further back than that. When I was a newbie who knew nothing of runebooks, I went to Yew - and stayed there 3 days because I daren't run past the lich to get back to Brit.

My favorite memory was when a guy came up to me and said "can I be in your guild? your abbreviation is the same as my initials" Well being a bit on the uo-naive side (didnt know at that time that guildies could kill you, It was my first guild) I put him in my guild. bet you can all guess what happened next. Yep oOooOOOoooOOOoo (I was on my mule). well while he was looting me dry I logged on my second account fighter that was at the house with the Guild Stone, and started wailing on him. chased him all around, and everywhere he ran I was hot on his tail. after 5 minutes I finally killed him and took all my stuff back (including his stuff), And booted him from the guild.

Well, i never played on osi shard. That's because i saw the game a few years ago, and i really prefered to play on a pre-aos shard.

But well, as the majority os you well know, UO come from a series of rpg's. I played Ultima 7 before this mmorpg, and my favorite memory was to recognize that graphics were almost the same: bags, corpses, things, etc...

Last night I hung out with friends, we didn't do anything new, but we had some great fun together.

That was a good day in UO.

I think I'll do it again.

At least 30 plp at the City of the Dead fel doing the champ like it was another day in Doom. Then the mob rolling on to the next area. The great multi guild fights being only over an Oaks or Harry.

Now it is a couple asshats running by all the undone champs to find one few plp doing and calling in a mob to raid it. Glad got mine in the good old days and not done a champ in maybe 5 years that I wasn't soloing. And the last champ I did I was soloing a Ricktor at Marble and two reds just stood there and watched me amazed a firehorn pally sword made it look easy.

The early months in the game without a clue, dead and corpse gone while lost in the swamps south of trinsic. Guy rezed me and made me set of GM leathers,GM composite and as many arrows as I could carry. Today I'm the nice guy helping new players enjoy the game. Taking pride in running into them years later to find out they are carrying the torch on to others. There is just to much to do in the game today to waste all I've accomplished to be a legend asshat. Everyone has their own palystyle and thats what UO is.

You're right - so many memories. Many of mine are of the first time I did something...

First time I killed a Wyrm, a Gazer, even a Troll. The Troll goes back to beta when about 50 to 75 players would move around together in the woods of Yew like little kids at a soccer game waiting for the next Ogre or Troll to spawn - LOL.

First death by another player was gut-wrenching.

First house - deep in Yew forest...so deep I couldn't find it again for days! HAHA
The list goes on and on...

Long Live UO!

1) When I wrestled a guy to death, after I disarmed him, stole his weapons and bandages, and got him cornered between me and two vendors. It took like 15 minutes but he couldn't move. Even better he threatened revenge upon me at the bank in his death robe later. Good stuff. (Pre aos of course)

2) Once a friend and I logged onto a test shard, and were sitting in my house (it was a LS mirror where I played at the time) and suddenly an ancient wyrm appeared outside (this was back when aws were still a terrifying sight) so we went out side, and it was a gm, and we ran around with him for a while and he protected us from the other gms in monster form killing people willy nilly, it was pretty cool.

While i just started playing in LS, i was in the guild The Espers. They were a bunch a great guys and the GM was fun and a great leader.

One day i met my first thief with them. He kept trying to snoop me and i kept running around in a circle trying to get away from him asking for help.

I kept calling for help in guild chat, and the guys kept laughing. Later i realized it was one of the guys in his alt. I didn't know he had a theif. :p

I was in shame killing air elementals....a LONG time ago.
Saw a red but was fed up with running!
I fought him, stood toe to toe swinging away for a few mins. He eventually felled me but said he was impressed. That I gave him the best fight he'd had had in a long while.
he still took my stuff lol

Hail Sosarians,

So many memories, mostly wondrous and amazing, some of devastating loss, such passion from or about a "game."

The first time I launched the software, the Chest opening, Mondain boasting, daring me to defy him. Creation of my first character. A good friend had told me of Ultima Online, he and a few other friends were already Players. These friends helped me to make some informed early choices, helped me train and advance in my chosen skills.

The first time I GMed a skill. When I offered to be Squire to another Character, and they accepted. The first time I made a new friend in Sosaria.

The day the spell was cast, and Trammel freed me from Felucca. Freed me to play the game on my terms rather than on terms dictated by others.

The day I achieved Legendary status in a skill. The first time I tamed an animal, a horse I still have to this day.

The first time I was actually able to help another Player.

My first house. My first Keep. My first Castle!!!

All of these and so many, many more are among my favorite UO memories.

And the day is young, so who knows which new favorite memory I may have tomorrow.

Thank You Lord British, aka Sir Richard. Thank you all who assisted him. Thank you all who ever worked to make this game and keep this game the precious, wondrous, and amazing virtual world it has been and still is!!!

the first time I wrote my own fiction in an in game Tome

I only intended on a short reply, but the memories came flooding out when I started typing. Do forgive me!

I think I would have to say my fondest memories of UO were the glory days of being a Trinsic Borrower on Atlantic... Before Med, when you could have the template Magery, Archery, Resist, Tactics, Steal, Snoop, Hiding. Not only was it a full thief temp, but also a perfectly viable pvp setup. Looting homes, killing the owners and their friends as they tried to lay siege to their still being ransacked house. I am one of the few players left I think who not only remembers the old noto system, but also thinks of it fondly. Being Dasterdly and thus red, putting on a death robe to cover my plate and recalling into the healers to lay a smackdown on the lame notokillers. (I might have played mostly "evil" chars, but like a lot of similar players, I was more honorable than most Great Lords)

Anyone remember those days before spell delay? When you cast a spell soon as you tapped the button? I wasn't playing UO after the AoS release, but I read about the 4 FC mages and it reminded me of those early days when we would machine gun fireball players walking from Brit to Skara... (I remember failing a fireball at master magery! heh)

I also remember fondly my time in The Mercs... Negative 127 noto, with no thoughts of anything but. Remember this temp anyone? Magery, Resist, Archery, Swords, Tactics, Parry, etc? Turning your fellow player into a pin cushion after you blew your mana? I even miss how slow mana regen was... Atleast than a player couldn't be up and running and back in the fight within 1 minute of dying.

Lastly... I think my true fondest memories are just of the community and the game itself. The taverns (Silks on LS! There has to be someone who remembers Bubba and his IB crew!) PR towns, counselors when they came about, No skill and stat locks (This in hindsight I now believe was one of the worst features to be added), When even an adept swordsman was worth something, The naive attitudes of players, we thought anything and everything was possible and we attempted it. The noto system, The virtue guards, Horse Stam (Another change that shouldn't have happened) One land overfilled with tents (Sucked back then, but prolly better than todays multiple lands and waterfall box homes) The websites and comics, Seers and the small quest they put on for as little as one player, 100gp on a new char and having a dog whip my butt upon trying to fight em! Waiting and really beliving designer dragon when he said Necromancy was to be released soon! Getting really excited with the introduction of the original necro regs! The old Context menus (They might have been tougher to use, but once again in hindsight, they were better), the old grey text on everything, item id wands and an unknown magic katana... The old dugeon spawns (I think Hythloth is the only one who has stayed the same in regards to type of monsters that spawn), Pre-runebook and them being blessed (When the rune library was a center of the community) Lord British and Blackthorne (Before the latter went all robocop!), My tamed ancient wyrm! Notorious Npc (If you weren't around then, this surely won't make sense), GM's selling castle deeds, GM Darwin pking players! The UO Volunteer Scandel! The nickname "Smurf", Gating Monsters, Area effect on trapped boxes!

Man, I could keep going forever. I think you get the idea though. These are what I consider my fond memories of UO!

I had a friend who was looking for a place to place a house and I had a bunch of runes to various islands so I was gating him around to check them all out. We were on Valor island I think when an Ogre came up and I shot it with a bow and it slapped me once taking about half my life. I was like whoa...!!! Turned out to be an Ogre Lord. I tried to run but I had no stamina ....red potion...where is that durn thing...whew just in time I got away and proceeded to unload all my arrows (about 200) gaining archery and then intermitently casting flamestrike gaining magery. My friend joined in and promptly died and while waiting for me to kill the thing off found the Valor shrine and ressed himself only to die again. I finally killed the thing after runing out of almost everything I had. It was the toughest thing I had seen till then.

Who remembers a couple of years ago on Europa, and EA&E auctions performed a re-enactment of "Mouse", I have it noted as being called. There is probably a more Accurate name for it, but I'm pretty sure it was the introduction to one of the original story arcs they were doing in UO.

Anyway, a good bunch of people turn up for it, to watch this play which lasted about 10-15 minutes, and this most ridiculous incident pops up in it.

Lord Blackthorn walks in from the side of the stage and approaches Lord British who is sitting behind his Desk playing Chess by himself. They start speaking and eventually Lord Blackthorn picks up a Chair from the back of the stage, and sets it down on the opposite side of the table to Lord British, to sit and face him?

And I'm not kidding, I was in STITCHES in my chair, most the crowd was cracking up, when this serious toned scene is spoiled by Blackthorn struggling to place the chair the correct direction. HAHA, and this chair is rampantly being thrown around the stage, and it's turning and facing ALL the wrong directions, and eventually the player controlling Blackthorn gives up, and sits facing the wrong way XD

It really was golden, this chair flying about the stage, and the Script is held up and everyone is sitting waiting, watching this Chair which just won't face the right way, HAH, oh my god, most hilarious thing I've even seen.

And to top it off, they performed this Play one more time which I attended again, and the same thing happened again!

It wasn't any less funny that second time either, I can tell you that :D

Early on in the Play, special effects are going~
The Time Lord speaks
People keeling over laughing from the Chair placement problem
Chair was removed, and Blackthorn glitched his head missing
Taking a bow from a successful performance

EA&E, you folks are brilliant! :) Hope it's alright to link some screenies...

easy one this.....
long before trammmel i was hanging about with a guild and 2 were getting married, waylah the wild and gawain.....
i got an invite to the ceremony in minoc. these were good friends and i had little or no money so decided to go look around and i found something new to me, a black pearl just lying on the floor, i though hey this must be uber rare so i took it and gave it to them. anyway we are waiting for the gm to do the ceremony and started doing silly games like pass the parcel , musical chairs etc.....anyway this guy passed me a purple pot, i asked him what it was and he just said it was a party popper. so i double clicked it and 'bang' almost everyone died and the last thing i remember seeing was the giver saying 'blimey':thumbup1:

oh and in those days i had a miner (as lots of us did) to make money and got pked a few times and then thought, to hell with this, got rezzed and got me another pickaxe and stormed up there and attacked the guy, he managed to stop laughing for long enuff to slaughter me again

The heart and compassion of people in the realm.

I think my best time was late one night, when two young ladies I knew showed up at my door and were desperate for gold to rebuild a house in Lake Austin. A girl named "Comfort" was so sweet and breathtaking, clever and humble, you could not help but fall in love with her. Her friend "Trouble" was just that, always getting into it.

Comfort's love, a Paladin usually on Atlantic, did not realize Comfort's house fell, because she agreed to hold someones house for a day. Finding the house gone he thought she had abandoned him, and had no way to find her, or leave a note. Nor could she return one. She was devastated. Before they left my door they had their house money. She HAD to rebuild this house, then searched for him day and night when she could. In two weeks they were back together, and the glow that lit her soul the next day was my best reason to live. God I was jealous of him, though I had actually met her and he had not, I would have given most anything to be in his place.

And now, several years after the unforgettable Comfort has departed, I found a girl that reached into my heart, unintentionally, and it seems that after 6 years of trying not to be caught, fate has put me in that guys place. I never expected this to happen to me, but now, with a satisfied nod, I wish you all well.

If you have these great memories, and may have kept a journal, or have the tenacity to write one, put them on the Chesapeake Stories thread. They matter to us.

I recall another priceless moment of newbieness!

One time while running around with my friend, before trammel, there was a blue character approaching us from off screen. The persons character was named "pk coming."

Being newbies, we thought this was a game warning that an actual pk was coming towards us! lol!

Needless to say we ran like hell in the opposite direction until we made it to minoc.

When we got there we ran into an orc warrior. We failed to catch the name and thought it was a town guard or something since it had a helmet and an axe. It killed us. We were confused until we came back and saw the name. lol
---------------------

Another good moment was when I had my first encounter with an Ogre.
Because of natural lag the thing appeared incredibly fast and friggin' strong! It scared the hell out of me and had to ask an experienced friend for help. Of course this was also in before tram.

Not a specific event but blacksmithing for a living at the forge in Delucia. Running around mining like crazy and then people would catch you at the forge and request items which you would make and sell to them or repair their armor and weapons for tips. It was cool people came to trust you so they would hand you their armor or weapons without worrying that you would run off with their stuff or switch it out.

I will always remember this newB event!

I friend introduced me to UO and filled my head to overflowing with all kinds of great info and advice. One thing he emphasized was: "If you see a red name, run like hell! They will kill you for no reason". For my first month I "ran like hell" every time I saw a red name even though it was a red healer in Tram. I didn't remember the part about red names in Fel!

Maybe not my favorite 1 memory yet a period of time when you didn't know who was lurking around the front of your house or if you would get a chance to meet up with your friends before running into someone you didn't want to meet and lets not forget how many long hours there where gathering resources only to just about make it thu the crowds to the bank before someone was trying to lift it just as you are making the deposit.
Now don't get me wrong harping I am not please don't take it that way for I like to be able to walk in town and know I will have all that I came to town with when I choose leave yet just a bunch of great memories :gee:

I was hunting by myself in the area around Yew and came across a battel going on between reds and blues and they kind of ran past me but one of the reds attacked me. Iwas in a forrest and using archery so I auto deffended but he couldn't get close to me and I almost killed him but the other reds came back for him. I was trying to recall out but wasn't going anywhere I kept thinking I must be laggin or something then right before I died I noticed the words of power were IN VAS MANI . I was healing my rune LOL I laughed and laughed. My nephew who was there next to me was all irritated that I was laughing since I had died. LOL

I just happened to be running around the Cove Orc Camp area (I think that was the area, this was a LONGTIME ago) and I saw a player and a GM talking (yeah, I saw a GM, so you know this was a LONGTIME ago). The player was scammed out of 6mil (this was back with gold was actually worth something).

The GM told the player that while he understood the guys frustration, there was nothing he could do.

I asked them to wait there and I went to the bank, got the gold, returned and gave it to the player.

After the player had left, the GM said to me-

That has got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Ahhhh the memories..

Probably my favorite and worst memory tis the same one.

i been playing maybe a month or 2 on my 1st tamer when i was asked by group peeps if i could come with them to tame a llama. I was like sure np, i followed them through a gate to who knows where (i now know T2A). We run around till we find a llama, well while taming said llama were all killed by some monster. I lost the peeps, got stuck in this place. i spent several days running back and forth across T2A. i was so new didnt know about the mage shop and the words to get me out there. i bought a boat, it took all my gold to buy it. i tried to sail out of T2A, spent several days boating around T2A. Finally i saw the 1st player in days, i ran up to them and ask them "help me please, how the heck do i get out of here." they took me to mage shop in papua and show me the pentagram on the floor and told me the magic words. The also ofter to gate me to brit.

A little Epilogue: I still have that boat. The USS Damnation. I keep its as reminder/momento my week in t2a.

Another memory.. Plantsitting for Na'Kasha Saran and having her be happy at the job i did cause i save a few plants from near death.. 2 or 3 were wilted.. she taught me about "Cocktail de Plant" .

so many memories so little time to write them all down.

I remember fighting my arch enemies.... the Sea Side Stranglers. Night Crawler sticks out in my mind since he`s the one who pried my beloved Vanq axe from my cold dead fingers, lol. Back than I was damn proud to own that axe too! Hated them guys with a passion, but years later those are some of my fondest and funnest memories. The blue guy that lived in a tower just in front of my house. I wish I could remember his name, was a great one, prolly a roleplayer(judging from his name). He`d help me and my friends whenever he saw those reds circling us and even helped us get home a couple times. Just hadta ask for his assistance at WBB and he was there along with 4-5 of his friends. My chars name used to be Houdini, was a mage. Had others too, think my mules name was Herb Smoka.

This was all on Pacific, had my house way north of Vesper by a lil bay. Back than it was a challenge sometimes to just get home with all my stuff on,rofl.

Lots of other great memories but for some reason, that Night Crawler guy and his 3-4 compadres stands out.

Well and Fingers Mcgee now that I think of it. DAMN THIEVES! lol... I stood by helplessly watching him dry loot my boat in Vesper, than even folded it up and took that too! That guy put the frickin hurt to me as everything I owned, well a good portion of it was stored in that boat since I didn`t have a house yet. After that I made damn sure I didn`t shoot myself in the foot like that again and learned fast how to be less of a mark.

Good times.:thumbup1:
