The post you're referring to pure garbage with no basis in the ToS. They don't even quote the relevant section. Ingame ads for ingame actions are fine. The part of the ToS they grossly misrepresent deals with ingame ads for out of game things/actions/whatever. The specific section is left as an exercise for the reader.I was simply asking a question regarding interpretation of in-game activity and its legitimacy within the terms of service contract, hence the customary question mark, at the end of each sentence. This was given someone else (not you...) posted a quoted section of the ToS, which could be interpreted as suggesting such activity might be against the rules.
I dunno... Maybe the thread needs to be refocuses on those who keep the companies alive. Why would they do that?
Acctually you're the one taking it off topic. How does you don't own items in the service tanslate to the court has to pay for the service? I don't even understand where this idea comes from. The court is not part of the contract.I dunno... Maybe the thread needs to be refocuses on those who keep the companies alive.
Basically your point is totally moot.
Just because the customers doesn't technically "own" data @ EA doesn't mean they dont pay for it. If the court or EA thinks those company can survive without customer payments then I'd like to see those statements posted up.
This thread is nonsense. I certainly don't care if I technically don't "own" a few megs of disk space @ EA. However I do care that the game has good support and is continuing to be fun to play. Payments is a mutual agreement and once issues on one side or the other are not agreeable, then that agreement is broken by stopping payments.
Erm...Attacking the poster not the post. Classy.
It being illegal to advertise in-game has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it is legal to sell anything in-game for RL money. Selling gold for RL money and advertising in-game are two completely separate issues.UO does not condone the sell of UO gold for real cash or they would let you openly advertise it in game.

Those are your positions. They are not my poistions. Please do not put words in my mouth. The thing I love about posts like these, and the same argument has been made as long as there has been personal interaction of any kind, is that they always always quickly degenerate into angry ranting; because what they really mean to say is "You don't have any rights, and I demand you accept your powerlessness... but I can do anything my sociopathic desires tell me to do, and I can make any argument at all I can think of to justify everything everywhere being bent towards what I want". And so, the moment anyone disagrees with that premise, it's violating the very selfish core of what the claimant truly wants and HOW DARE YOU DO THAT?! RRRAAAGHHHH!
But let's run with this argument as it's been made here shall we? I agree; Mythic now owns every single facet of this game. Including the account of Ralco. And you know what Mythic, you don't have to justify anything to him. Ban his account. Right now. Remove all of his access to it. And then... log in an EM on his main character. Dress him up in a pink skirt. You keep records of the chat logs, right? Find all the people he's argued with, insulted, been accused of scamming by... and take his main character to them, and beg and grovel for forgiveness in that skirt. Post the pictures on the boards of everyone he hates laughing at him, whilst he tells them what a naughty girl he's been. Then at the next EM event, have the players whip him naked through the streets of Trammel, whilst he is quoting the speeches from the Care Bear Movie...
And you won't complain about that will you Ralco? Because you fully accept you own nothing on your account.
Of course, Mythic won't do that, mores the pity, because they understand the concept of an unwritten social contract... even if legally, they probably could get away with it. But how much RRRAAAAGGHHH! would we see on these boards if they did, hmmm?
But you, when someone breaks the rules of the game, or treats you in an anti-social way, you are supposed to just suck it up apparently....
This thread is utterly stupid.Acctually you're the one taking it off topic. How does you don't own items in the service tanslate to the court has to pay for the service? I don't even understand where this idea comes from. The court is not part of the contract.
Why do you think the court should pay for your account?
This thread is utterly stupid.
But I have always alleged that EA has "plants" on the board to speak on their behalf. This thread only enforces that belief. Personally I don't see anyone who actually passed the Bar coming onto an internet forum and starting a thread entitled "you don't own anything" that was provoked by nothing. Nobody came on the board and said they were filing suit for their UO belongings....
My advice: go study your IP stuff instead of coming onto the board trying to show off your legal knowledge. That way you can actually pass the bar and start doing real legal work instead of making idiotic thread alleging people want to own their UO belongings.

And again with the personal attacks? Please address the topic at hand or stop posting.
But hey, you've got your views, but argue against any view others care to share...Those are your positions. They are not my poistions. Please do not put words in my mouth.
So disagreement is not allowed? Everything you post is automatically true and must be agreed with? But hey, you've got your views, but argue against any view others care to share...
...not much of a "discussion" really.

Actually, what they have said, is that while it is against the TOS, they haven't been enforcing it.Reps from EA/UO have been on record several times in the past stating that selling gold and items for cash isn't against the rules.
Not when you disagree with everything else anyone cares to post, that doesn't support your own statements and arguments.Look if something is wrong I point it out. There's nothing wrong with that. It's called discussion.
- Nay, it is not against the ToS to sell gold and items for anything outside of UO...Actually, what they have said, is that while it is against the TOS, they haven't been enforcing it.Reps from EA/UO have been on record several times in the past stating that selling gold and items for cash isn't against the rules.
I think you misunderstand something...But hey, you've got your views, but argue against any view others care to share...

Considering that people have posted on both sides it's impossible for me to disagree with everyone. Not when you disagree with everything else anyone cares to post, that doesn't support your own statements and arguments.
Also if something "is wrong", in who's opinion? If you make a statement or observation from your own standpoint, but criticise anything anyone else cares to suggest, there is no "discussion".
If you're going to make such sweeping and attention drawing posts, you've got to be prepared for other views and opinions. Simply dismissing them, criticising them, or rudeness when someone asks a logical question, isn't a discussion...
If you're not prepared to listen to other views, what's the point? If you can't take criticism, what's the point? If you're not prepared to accept some humour directed your way with good grace, what's the point?
If you can't accept criticism, be it constructive or otherwise, then perhaps internet forums aren't the best place to hang out.
