Why do we have a "Report a Player" feature in the game? I have reported players for some serious stuff but nothing ever seems to be done. Why do we even have this feature if EA/Maxis will do nothing about them? It's totally useless. What does someone have to do? Commit murder before EA/Maxis will do anything about them?

Well, sims easily delete and recreate anyway, so most of the scammers are probably the same people, lol. I dont know. It does seem like the scammers can do the same things over & over and still be around...

I have reported players for violations of the ToS using the report feature and action was taken on serveral occasions. Remember, when filing a report, evidence of the violation must support any report. I believe in the past, gathering that evidence through data tools available was somewhat difficult. I understand the back end tools to log evidence is something that is being worked on by the developers.

It also may depend on just how serious the action is. I've reported players attempting to get passwords and seen results within minutes. As Gracie said, much of it depends on the evidence available.

In the distant past I have reported players for serious TOS violations in game and the response was swift from EA's end. I think it depends on what and how well documented the infraction is. I think it may also help if more than one player sends in the same complaint. Like Milton, I have seen them take action within a very short period of time especially for something like hate speech in a bio. Something like that is easy for them to verify for themselves after you make your complaint.

I have only used the report function once. I reported someone that landed on a skill lot screaming out to read his bio for instructions on how to do that horrible money exploit in their bio. I included screen shots of the bio. The bio was removed by Maxis in no time at all.

The report a player feature does work, however the seriousness of the complaint is taken into consideration. Typical complaining doesn't constitute for any ban action. I know a player who did get temporarily suspended but it was due to racial issues. If you have players who bother you, the solution is simple, put them on ignore. That's one of the best features TSO has given us!

There was a time when the 'report' feature was pretty much ignored.

However, EA has become a lot more responsive to reported TSO violations. I also find that if you go directly to the EA site and fill out a full report and submit screenies, you get a much speedier and appropriate response too.

Some actions need to be reported , I have only used the action once when a 10 yr old was loudly announcining she was 10 and was acting like a adult ..*a rated X adult* I was very much worried about her running into some pervert or someone of that nature. So I think that it is very important to have that feature to insure the game play for all is safe

That is a protection for you and me (general population) against false accusations and harrassment from griefers. In order to protect the innocent players (the majority) from troublemakers, a few scammers (a tiny minority) get protected as well.

Scamming is the most difficult problem to get resolved, because it is so easy to lie about. 'Scammer' is a word that is thrown around easily and frequently in the game, whenever there are misunderstandings. It is a common accusation from disgruntled cheapskates, whenever they don't like the prices!(I was once called a 'scammer' for putting a 45k price on a #1 Residential house &, once for pricing items at 20% over cost, in my store.
). There can be huge grey areas in what various player's consider a "scam", and almost all misunderstanding in the game, end up with someone being called a 'scammer', along with other rude things.

Then there are the players that get stupidly greedy and agree to skanky deals, that, not surprisingly, go bad....there is not much anyone can (or should, in my opinion) do about those. All of this, plus the stated position of EA Games in their User Agreements/Terms of Service, that they do not support nor will they get involved with certain types of trade/transactions, just make identifying actionable scams, even more difficult. Most of it comes down to undocumented claims (screenies do not count because they can be altered) of who said what, to whom and when, with both sides, adamantly, claiming innocence.

Exploits, selling third party programs, racist/hateful/pornagraphic stuff and players claiming to be underage, in print, (bios, descriptions, signs & chat), on the other hand, are all pretty cut and dried, so those things tend to be dealt with quickly and obviously.

That is why some players thing the sytem works and some do not, all depends on what type of 'crime' is being reported.
