wow, friday already!

I promised to open the web page on friday - it should be on the FoF, as well. you guys get the sneak peak ;)

of course, it's not totally up - i still got a couple of hundred photos to thumbnail and get coded into the site. BUT, it's got tons of photos already.

There are no banners, no external links, and no gold <-> RL cash, so is 100% within uo rules.

Hope you guys like it.

Thanks Feath, it will be good to preserve these deco ideas and not have to poke through assorted forums to find snippets about deco.

I reconstructed my Velvet Rope Barrier instructions recently if you want to add them to your tutorial section at some point.

You just had to post that didn't you? I just got my house finished, now I see some ideas I wan't to steal and there's a pretty good chance I'll end up spending this afternoon rebuilding my house again. Thanks a lot! :D

Seriously, very nice work. The site looks great. :thumbsup: Very clean and organized. Seeing it makes me want to put up another site of my own. It's been ages since I've done any web design. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it for new ideas for my bi-weekly house redesign binges.

It's been years for me too - this is a very basic site, on back end. I've forgotten so much - I remember enough to know I could really do a lot more with it, but for now, I'm keeping it simple.

Glad you guys like it. I hope it gets a lot of usage!

Looks good but there's no credit given for any of it... I know most of us here can figure out who's done what since we've seen it posted and re-posted, but if you could tag stuff with the artist's name it would be nice, especially since not everyone who goes to your site will have read the forums. I know two of my screenshots from my last TC house (the four-square tiny house samples) are up there, and I'd like to have credit.

since i only posted pics, i didn't have a place to post who did what. I have two ways of doing so - post the pic on its own .txt page, which would double the size of the site, or do a mouse over with the name. this is, of course, if i know the name of the person who did it. a lot of the pictures are from japanese sites, where i can't tell what the name is. another problem is everyone names their pictures variations of 'my living room' which makes identification harder. I've already uploaded a gazillion pictures. going back to find names to go with those pictures will be a head ache of mountainous perportions.

I've tried to find the mouse over command, but haven't been able to, and i dont remember it. if anyone can tell me, i'll try and add all the names in mouse over.

otherwise, the only option is to add a page and simply list everyone's name, which maybe the best option.

What I would love to see is a how-to on some stuff... but that would make it a lot more difficult and larger... :(

Oh, and please add "_blank" to the links so they open on a new page. :) Just a little wish, but the site itself is great!

There are how to things up...under 'Tutorial'. if there's something you want that isn't up, ask on forums here. I'll post them on the site after someone posts one. (with note on who did it, as thats in .txt format!)

as for blank - i was worried people would have a million new windows/tabs open. although i also understand the frustration of using the back arrow. kinda 50/50 on that one.

edit; oooh, this is my 666th post - buweeeuuu

I'd be happy to dust off my copy of HTML for dummies and see if I can find the bit of code you need for the mouseover on pictures.

Off the top of my head I think it's:
<img src="http://www.linktoimagegoesinhere.jpg" alt="mouse over text goes here">

[Edit]
That is the correct code, (I can't believe I remembered that) and I put together a tiny html file using my sig to test it. It works, but I could only get the text to display using Internet Explorer. I mainly use Firefox, but I could swear I have seen the same thing done in FF. Maybe there's a change to the code that's needed.

[Edit #2]
A quick check of the source code of this page, and the code is the same in firefox and IE. So it should work, but for some reason I couldn't make it work in firefox.

That's it indeed ("Alt") try adding Title = "text here", it might be better recognized by FF.

You can do more complex stuffs too though ;-p
But I think it's outside of the scope :)

Good job, though is it only me, or the right panel is a big and empty white area?
It makes the center panel very crowded for me.

so, the code would be alt title="mouse over text goes here" for FF?
i have a very wide screen, and usually code for smaller screens. one thing i really hated when i had a small screen was the need to scroll right to see the whole thing, so i like white space.

This is the exact source code (I got it using FF's view source command while viewing a single post by feath)

<img src="image.php?u=797&amp;dateline=1216981702" width="100" height="75" alt="feath's Avatar" border="0" />

As you can see, the alt code is simply alt="feath's Avatar". For some reason, I still can't make it work in FF for me when I create a test HTML document. But If I hover over any avatar or signature I get a tooltip telling me what it is.

Sorry for the slow reply but I've been very busy ;-p

The exact use of ALT is to give an alternative text to the image if it doesnt load. In order to get hovering text you should use the title tag.
ALT="Feath's Alt" TITLE="Feath's Image Title"

Though, it works in IE as it's used to work like that and they remained compatible with that.

As for the whitespace, yeah, I know what you mean, but that's not the empty parts around the main block that I'm aiming at.

I uploaded a picture :

The top part show the front page which spans nicely across the central block. But when I go into the sub categories I have that big white area (circled in red) which spans the whole height. Don't know if it was intended :)

ah, yes, that part. I'd tried several different ways of putting in that second column, but they wouldn't MATCH. one part or another would be 'off'... thats not counting the fact they were uneven due to picture's loading. it was driving me nuts. so finally just went with one column. If i could think of enough 'chatter', i could fill in that other column, it would fill in the white space. maybe I'll put all the 'donated by' names there ;)

so, i'd put in; TITLE="picture by so-and-so"

Using "alt" *and* "title" would be the more "correct" way to do it =)

"Alt" text is for people (like me) that don't load images, or for some reason an image doesn't load on the page

For example, if it was a descriptive alt text, something like cloth fountain, (just a couple words to describe the image) then I could go down the page looking for just that one image and load just that one =)

Then you can use "title" text to give credit to the original idea =)

As an example:

<img src="fountain.jpg" alt="cloth fountain" title="by somebody special">

It looks like a good site. My personal prefrence would be to have some sort of wiki for deco. I don't know why but I love wikis.
