To enter for today (Sunday August 10, 2008) - you simply have to put in a reply to this thread to have your name put in the hat.

20 lucky winners will receive one of the WWI cards that were given in the goody bags in Paris. The codes on the card will give you an exclusive in game Tyrael the Archangel pet and the 2nd key is a beta code to get in the WotLK beta (at some point - can't guarantee immediate access).

Next Friday (the 15th) we'll have a drawing. Each day we'll have a new thread for you to post in and answer and each day will be a new entry (for a total of 7 possible entries).

Note: Stratics staff members aren't eligible to win but are welcome to respond to the questions and participate in the thread.

Today's Topic:

Using Warcraft lore, who do you think would deserve to light the torch of the first ever Azeroth Olympics?

I think the character best to light the olympic torch is Thrall. He, in my opinion has shown what true determination and selflessness is. He brought people together (trolls, tauren etc) and that is something the olympics is about.

I think that Cairne Bloodhoof Should be the first to light the torch of the first Azerith Olympics. due to being a fearless leader but also encourages peace.

C

cardinall

Guest
The only real choice is Ragnaros. He is the Firelord after all.

S

skywind

Guest
Definitely Thrall.... for the same reasons as the other poster above :D And, he's perhaps one of the few horde leaders that could actually be welcomed in alliance lands. (Theramore, if no-where else).

V

VividAriah

Guest
Yep, Thrall. As mentioned earlier, he is a figure that promotes unity.

S

Stetzer

Guest
I disagree with Thrall. Yes, he is definitely a huge figure in World of Warcraft, but I feel that Garrosh Hellscream should deserve to carry the torch in honor of this father Grom Hellscream for sacrificing his all for the horde.

B

Guest
I think that Sylvanas is the best canidate to carry the torch because, first of all she died fighting the death knight arthas while trying to protect her home of quel'thalas and the sunwell, second after being raised as a banshee she led the sourge rebels against the sourge as the new forsaken, and all this time she has protected her people, although undead, against the might of the sourge and provented them from reaching further into the eastern kingdoms.

King Magni Bronzebeard because the dwarves are the reason gnomes even have a place to stay.

O

Orgatyrant

Guest
I would have to say the Prophet Velen. He not only resisted the lure of power from Sargeras, but also guided the remaining eredar across the cosmos escaping from kil'jaeden for thousands of years.

He has always been an envoy of peace and harmony, and a guide to those who sought wisdom.

I would have to go with a character who has a certain level of neutrality between both factions, someone who the Alliance and the Horde have common ground with. But also a character who is not politically motivated or aloof, such as the Dragon Aspects or Medivh, someone who quite simply represents the strength and heart of Azeroth. So obviously this character would have a lot to live up to.

Overall I would have to go with Malfurion Stormrage, he is the protector of the wildness and balance of Azeroth, and does not care for the squabbles between factions. And yes I realise he is currently MIA, but I would have to say he would make the best candidate.

The clear answer to the question presented here is Griftah.
He has been constantly molested by the guards of the Sha'tar and they had even gone as far as exiling from Shatrath before his name was cleared!
This man (or troll) has gone through MANY things to do what? Help us stay clear of Tikbalangs, keep us clean, and even prevented our souls from escaping!
If anything Griftah, deserves each and every gold medal that can be won for his outstanding achievements.
You may not know, it but he has impacted the lives of most people that play the World of Warcraft.

My vote goes to Emperor Thaurissan (the original). After all, he has some experience playing with fire.

K

Kazuko

Guest
I say Anduin Wrynn should be given the right to light the torch since he is only a child and yet is king of stormwind in the absence of his missing father.

A

Apitoxin

Thrall is definitely the best choice. Bringing together the weary and the broken to form a society wins.

S

Serotoninzero

Guest
If A'dal could somehow light the torch, I think A'dal should be given the right to light it. A'dal is of course the most neutral person in the WoW universe at the moment.

O

oreobaby

Guest
Illidan Stormrage should light the torch for the event. Since none of us are prepared for such a task.

Z

Zaiten

Guest
Thrall because of his relationship with Jaina Proudmore. He does what he can for his people and would probably do anything to live peacefully.

M

I'm not to good on World of Warcraft lore, but lets start the ball rolling and say The Lich King Arthas, for no particular reason other than he's the guy in the expansion everyones getting so excited about

F

faervian

Guest
Khadgar can be a good alternative to these names. He's polite enough to give a tour in shattrath with his minion to newbie Outlanders. And, closing the Dark Portal or lighting a torch, I don't see big difference.

E

Evli

Guest
As everyone else said Thrall, I would have to go with him too. So, Thrall.

Z

Zanzili

Guest
A'dal , he's the most neutral thing between horde and alliance.

I

Ivelbull

Guest
Thrall, because of his work to unite the orcs and make peace with the alliance.

H

Happu

Guest
I'll have to go with thrall aswell, he did after all unite races.

F

Fojos

Guest
Thrall for the horde. Because like everyone else said, he brought the horde together, and he's for unity. If not Thrall, I'd go with Garrosh Hellscream (someone picked him before too, damnit) for what Grom Hellscream did.

Tirion Fordring for the alliance. Come on, he's just badass. He sacrificed his whole life for saving an orc. ;o

C

Celi

Guest
Definitely Hogger, raiding him requires the best teamwork in whole Wow

K

Kamahri

Guest
Thrall, for the same reasons as the others, he is definitely the symbol of the peace for me.

C

Calziana

Guest
I hadn't set my mind 100% on someone before I read on, but now I definetly think that Thrall is the one who should be given this huge honour!

C

celer

Guest
i'd have to say keeper remulos, the son of cenarius.

He is a neutral person, being one of the most notable persons in the cenarion circle. The circle also has as one of their goals to unite the people, they train druids of both the alliance and horde.

Besides, he's been on azaroth for much much longer then anyone else as far as i know.

R

Rutix

Guest
Thrall because what he has done in the past shows his true determination and his leadership. like someone already said he brought trolls and stuff to eachother. My vote goes to thrall :D

L

lorecow

Guest
It's simple really. Uther the Lightbringer. Not only is his name fitting, he also is/was a beacon of hope for humanity in a sense.

C

ciabb64

Guest
Hmm I'd have to say its a tie between Uther the lightbringer, his name fits and everything. Or possibly Thrall for changing Orcs for the better.

S

sethamun

Guest
I have to agree. The only real choice is Ragnaros, i mean... he is a living torch himself so who could do this job better than him? :)

N

Nyaz

Guest
Thrall here, Thrall there. I say we spice things up a bit and let Arthas / The Lich King do it, whilst declaring himself sovereign king of all that is, was and shall ever be.

Bwahahaha...ha...ha...! Hm. Tough crowd.

I suppose Ragnaros works too. He could -be- the freakin' fire!

T

TheGnomeChibi

Guest
I think it should be Brann Bronzebeard one of the greatest explorers to run with the flame through all of Azeroth :D if he would come back :p Else it should be High Explorer Magellas since he is responsible to mapping out the world etc :D

P

Phinor

Guest
Ah, so much gnome haters here. So I'm going to go ahead and say High Tinker Mekkatorque. Yep, he's the perfect candidate for the job! Leader of gnomes, the one we all foll.. err, actually no, most gnomes just hate him in his beggar clothes.

So I'm going to nominate myself! Gnome warrior with years of experience in beating evil all around the world(s)!

T

Toliris

Guest
It would have to be Thrall because of all he and his people have overcome and how the orcs were once enslaved for our entertainment they should be allowed the honour of lighting the torch

K

khz88

Guest
i would have to say Prophet Velen for the same reason as Orgatyrant said

C

Chozei

Guest
Like many else I'm gonna go with Hogger. He has given as much joy and is undoubtedly the most dangerous being on Azeroth. He deserves this chance to prove his everlasting might.

M

Maghica

Guest
Who's better to light up a torch than Onyxia herself, followed by her 'brood' and all those Onyxia juniors from her cave!

That would be a showstopper.

S

Suigeneris

Guest
Aman'Thul, should be bestowed the honor of lighting the Torch of the first Azeroth Olympics.

He is the creator of Azeroth and therefore, the most worthy too start the games.

B

boson

Guest
Thrall should start the fire because he is truly devoted to promoting peace and unity.

K

Kualus

Guest
Tirion Fordring, even though he was a well-respected human, and one of the first five Knights of the Silver Hand, he defended an orc and got exiled. Tirion would be the excellent candidate to light the torch :D
