I am in need of some ideas for "noob friendly events"! meaning, players from other shards are able to make a character and join in on the events. I have a few super secret plans in the making...

Here is how this will work, please post your ideas either in this thread, or ICQ me (78881350) or PM me (please bump the thread though). And let me know your ideas! After about a week (no promises on the time frame) I will make a new post with a poll in it, and have people vote on the events. The winner will get their event ran (to the best of my ability) and I will pay the transfer cost to bring you 25,000,000 shiny gold coins!

Here is an idea of an event I had:

Dodgeball, explosion potion style. Two teams face off tossing explosion potions at the other team, people on the sidelines will be standing by to res dead players so they can get back out on the field. A corpse count will be kept and after a certain amount of time, a winning team will be announced. Also, the healers will have explosion kegs on them to refuel the players.

the events can be anything, PvP, tram, fel, hunts, scavenger hunts, fake IDOCs... anything you can think of (that's not offensive).

So let me hear them!

-Derium

p.s. I will not be able to post all the events on the poll, it will have to be narrowed down a bit, I will do my best with it. If you are NOT the winner, I will not run your event without your permission to do so! But the winner of this contest must agree to allow me to run their event. Consider that a Terms of Service... of sorts ;)

Hide and seek in a dungeon or something? People run in and have 2 mins to hide, then the seeker goes in and has 5 mins to find them all? No invising or anything.

Rescue a character.
One character has been captured and taken away by evil-doers.
There is a clue left behind that leads you to..... somewhere in Sosaria.
In that location you can have one of your people there who "already found this spot here is the clue that I found here" and hand out books to people who find the spot.
Depending on how many people you have you can have several clues before the captive is found. First one there wins a prize. (Or if you like First second and third places... or whatever you decide)

You can put my 25M prize money up as the reward.
Glad I could help.

I always like the ones where you hide and post a screenshot tightly cropped. Some very good spots in the Lost Lands or Ilshenar.

First person who finds you ingame wins.

You could always play Mage Poker. They just need to be able to cast summon spell from scroll or high enough magery cast the spell.

I like the tried and true scavanger hunt. Have some books dropped at places of interest such as the Shrines and little used/known parts of the cities such as the two houses at the end of the road leading west from the "main" block of Yew.. It might spark some interest in the old places again. I really wonder how many people in the game have gone to every shrine, or even been to some of the other cities other than Britain and Luna? I actually met a person in game last night that didn't know where Vesper was.

A Carmen Sandiego-style hunt around the facets for a thief who stole some shiny bauble. Players get clues from locations they visit and must apprehend the correct person to win.

Use a character with 'young' Tag as prisoner so they don't get attacked.
Had a story with a girl kidnapped by orcs and held prisoner in the orc fort.

May I suguest a "treasure hunt". For my guild on Catskills a few years back when things got dull so I made a book of items to "find".
From easy to find/buy to the wee bit of dangerous item ( scales) culled from a Shadow wyrm. The list was over 50 items but a time limit was set so would be hard to get all 50.
They had a blast.
The winners (I had them go in teams of 2 or more) all got very nice prizes.

oh and if you want a copy of that list I think I might still have the master book (all books were sealed so no changes could be made to any book for fairness). You can keep the gold I have plenty.

Its been a couple years since I've played these....

Bingo - Need to make multiple books, and have a caller... This had been ran in my guild multiple times and was successful with 20+ players. We usually have a 5-10K per book fee and run about 20 games. prizes range from gold to arties to scrolls.

Battle Chess - Again another guild game, but could be done in Fel. GM armor (all same PR usually about 50) and weapons to all players. Mages 100 LRC with same PR as Melee skills. We make a chess battle field out of bandages. Two chess pieces are named the king. Depending on number of pieces you can determine what other pieces are being used. Have two players play the game... but just because you move onto a players square does not mean they win that piece the two pieces battle it out. Winner gets the square. Loser steps off.

Battle Checkers - Same as above. But if you "jump" someone you battle them. This one has not been as successful as chess. But is still fun none the less.

Fel Gate Race - On a busy night at Fel have contestants strip off everything. Have a destination set (Bank, Safe House...etc) The contestants, one at a time, have to run, on foot, from the gate to said location while continually screaming some random nonsence (im a noob, kill me, fel pvpers are gimp...) The one that makes it the furthest wins.

Hide an artifact in a dungeon. Give a clue to the dungeon... Could be a book that needs to be returned to you for the prize...

Sosaria Marathon - Set a course. Have helpers set up randomly through out the course, wearing similar bright clothes to be seen easily, giving items. Usually we had a box placed with the helper watching to make sure noone snagged the box. Players could run up open and take their item and run. We usually walked the group through the course first so their was a fair start for everyone. Ready, Set, GO... 1st player to make it to the finish with all items wins.

I have tons more ideas too, if these are not 25m worthy

It's been done, I'm sure, but why not an Amazing Race kind of game.

Players are broken up into teams (however many is manageable.) There are 9 clue points in the shard, where a person awaits (dead or alive, polymorphed or incognito) with the next clue(s). You can have them have to pick up certain items as part of their search (to make it hard, they have to be marked items.)

Once they go through the clues and get the required items, the 9 items make up a final clue as to where the finish line is.

The first team there gets the biggest prize, the others get a secondary prize. The very last team gets a special prize, though nothing that would have people sitting off screen waiting for hours.

It can be more exciting if you have multiple announcers (probably the clues givers) working in a chat channel to tell everyone what's going on.

If your EM is nice to you, they might even help with some of the setup of the clue givers.

The flow of the game should be to give those on your shard a tour of interesting spots -- both of shard history and of UO history in general. The tough part is making clues that aren't ONLY important to shard folks.

If you want the game even more exciting: teams can not use ANY travel spells except teleport. They must walk, boat or fly to the clues. However, you then need a spotter in each team.

You can even spread it over a week or two, make it episodic so that you get to the next clue spot, then start again the next evening. But that tends to be tougher to get people to stick to.

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy putting it together. Organizing events in UO is like herding bears... tough to contact, touchy, and ever so willing to paw your throat out over nothing.

You want an event, or series of events that are fun and useful for new player, here is my suggestion.

The Super Double Treasure Hunt Marathon!

~Instruct participants to present themselves at a starting location "naked" and without a mount (no armor, weps, or gear - clothes only.)

~Start with a foot race to a certain location not too far from the start
(a large dock would be good) For example, start at the Brit GY and race to Brit Docks.
Prizes for winners. Footraces are more fun in Felluca.

~Every participant then gets a mount and choice of standard gear packs. The gear packs would include armor, jewelry, regs, pots, etc. The nicer the better. It would be cool if the mounts were beetles.
(Have a mage pack/Dexer pack and have a variety of nice crafted weps to choose from.) Make sure the gear is dyed a certain color so it is easy to tell participants from event coordinators.(The event coordinators should be easy to identify too)

~Once everyone suites up tell them they are on a treasure hunt. If you did not race to a dock gate everyone to one, herd them all onto boats and set out.

~Once underway stop a few times and throw nets, have a bunch of fishing poles in the holds and hand them out, have a fishing contest while en-route to a t-map island. Once you arrive hand out fishing prizes (most shoes, biggest fish, etc) remember it is unlikely any of the participants will have more than 20 fishing from JOAT. (remember to have someone available with a boat key to gate stragglers)

~Remind everyone that they are on a t-hunt. Have several pre marked and decoded maps and enough real t-hunters to dig them up. Start digging! Also once chests start popping drop several bonus chests around the island. I am picturing a very small island with tons of low level spawn and a bunch of treasure to be picked up. (Set up an aid station at the boats for rezzing folks) For the finale dig a couple of level 6 chests and drop some more bonus chests- good bonus loot would be: boats, checks for 50K, commodity deeds for a few thousand ingots, minor artifacts, etc.)

~After a while gate everyone to Brit Bank. If there is an item that can be engraved hand it out with "I survived the 1st Britannian Treasure Hunt 2010" (This could be on all the bonus chests)

By the end all participants will have been geared up, given a mount, introduced to boats, nets, to t-hunting, and have a nice pile of loot. The key to all this is having enough participants to make it crazy, you need at least 10-15 players and another 5-6 vets to help put the event on.

I think you should pick your favorite cult classic film, go through the major scenes, and create contests based on those.

I already gave a short list of what could be done with Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail, but think of what could be done with one of my favorites, Army of Darkness? The Big Lebowski?

Army of darkness rocks! haha

But keep 'em coming! I'm writing them all down, just taking me a bit longer than I had hoped to sort them all out, sorry =(

I'll have to bump the gold amount by a bit to make up for it ;)
