Will someone please break down classic shards for me?

I can't remember when I came to UO. I believe it was somewhere around T2A. This is many years ago, and everything is kinda meshed together. I want to be informed and make sure I'm talking with the correct information when I see posts talking about classic shards.

1) Launch, September '97
2) T2A (I'm assuming this is the same as Pre UO:R?)
3) Pre UO:R (Again, I'm assuming this is the same as T2A?)
4) UO:R
5) Pub 15
6) Pub 16
7) Pub 16 NO POWERSCROLLS
8) Pre AoS

I think I hit most of what I have seen concerning time periods Pre AoS.... would anyone be so kind as to list the main difference between the time periods? Like I said, I came in somewhere around #2 or #3 and cause of the time that has passed, everything is kind of meshed together in my memory. So how bout it? Anyone wanna put in definitions for 1-8?

some of the big things were:

4) brought Tram
6) revamped pretty much the entire game
8) turned us into a WoW clone
