Why Your shard?

I think the problem is you've tricked yourself into thinking instant travel is somehow a requirement in the game. It's not and you can play just fine without it.

I have played Legends, Baja and Great Lakes. I have also visited all the shards and I always come back to Great Lakes. Some I have spent more time on than others.
I do feel however one can find helpful , nice and fun people to play with on any shard.

For the OP and his friend... play where the playstyle suits you best.

For the Siege haters...
I came to Siege a two months ago. My character is in RoT for his primary skills. Now I can log in, skill gain for 30 minutes to an hour and max out my gain for those skills. After that I can farm wool, work on Compassion, etc. to advance myself in the community. Yes by God there is a real community on Siege.

Why did I come to Siege? Simple answer is for adventure. A more complex answer is to see a UO that is as close as possible to the UO I heard about for years after I came to UO during the early days of AoS. I've been Pk'd once and that was at a champ spawn. Thats one champ spawn out of several I've participated in completing. It was a hoot!!!

I'm having so much fun I collapsed my house on my former home shard and reopened a second account that had been closed for years. That character is in NEW. If not for Siege I'd be playing free cell until I could afford a new computer to try out a different game.

As far as casting gates... neither of my characters can gate. Good grief you can run from one end of the old lands to the other in under five minutes. I walk escorts from point to point and still have to wait on the timer when I deliver them.

Anyone being killed multiple times daily on Siege is either walking around Luna like its a mall and not the battleground that it is on Siege or doing something else that is unbelieveably dumb.

Would I love for Siege to lose all the arties, marties, smarties and all that junk??? Oh yeah I would very much. Not because someone else has it and I don't, I want it gone because to me its like pollution in a once crystal clear and clean spring.

Go Seige!!!!!!

Just my opinion, love it, hate it, disagree, agree... doesn't matter I'm not posting to debate in a forum. Thought it was about time for the voice of a 'young' Siege player to be heard and not just the Siege 'old hands'.

Ya, that's the problem...they won't be removed. Siege is being taken in the opposite direction. Even if the devs and players agreed that it is in the best interest of Siege to no longer receive the same item changes and events that other shards do, so many aspects of Siege, such as how item-based it is, would remain. There is potential for Siege to one day have a healthy population. But it will always have major problems that will not be fixed. This is why I think the best thing to do is not work on the current Siege at all. Instead, the devs should remake it and do it right, and then lock out the new shard from the content and changes the other shards receive.

1. It was a joke Rico.

2. My char there is Limlight.

3. Masamutek...that actually is possibly correct...wierd as it sounds....I could have tricked myself into thinking recall is a must.

But in my opinion Masa...if Gate exists...so should recall.
(Keep in mind...my character is a Mage)

To me...its not entirely fair to allow 1 class transportation.

Now, if they made a gate spell for Chivalry, necro and weaving...then maybe I would be cool without recall.

Would you be opposed to a Siege only update of some form of gate travel for Chivalry, Necromancy and Spellweaving?

Just tossing around ideas...

I'd be opposed to that. I prefer to keep instant travel to a minimum.

People do have a point when they say non-mages without gate capability should have to rely on other members of the community if they wish to gate...and I agree with that.

Though, what I'd really like is for the landmass to be reduced, for Siege's population to increase, and for all forms of instant travel to be removed (except what is absolutely required...a *few* moongates would probably be required). I'd even remove intra-Fel moongate travel. People would have to travel by foot, mount, or boats.

While we're waiting for that though (*hopes*), the less instant travel the better. I'm opposed to any additional instant travel on Siege.

To the original poster, if your friend likes to pvp and speedhack and run various other cheats, Id suggest Great Lakes. He will be able to find a guild with no problem and he can cheat till his heart is content with absolutely no threat of GMs doing anything about it. Id also suggest Atlantic seeing this is where a good chunk of these trash guilds come from.

Siege is just a VERY small slice of what the old UO used to be.

UO in 1997-2003 was the bomb.

You can really say 'this is real pvp'.

No stat scrolls , no insurance , no arties.

It was all pretty basic...people pvp-ed in plain armor and crappy weapons.
First person to show up with a Vanq weapon was dead on sight.
Blue , red or grey...people would chase that person , kill him/her for the vanq wep.

(Vanq was the bomb back then...and it was 40k for a vanq wep , wich was A LOT back then)

It was pvp based on skill and swiftness.

Now it's all money based...who has the best gear , the money to scroll to 120.

As for your friend...if he was on an WoW pvp server , then he'll probably like siege.
If he was on a pvp/rp server , then i would advice a 'normal' server that fits his time.

I used TC1 to ... refamiliarize myself with UO and its changes before I choose a shard.

I went to all the US shards and checked both Fel and Tram out.

I was looking for the ability to place houses and basicaly what / were the population was.

I chose Lake Austine.

It had a lower population and that was exactly what I was looking for. This also meant that I was easily able to place 2 18x18x3 Houses north of Trinsic, which is were I wanted to live.

The population that I encountered had a fairly large percentage of FIT for what I was looking for in a population. It tends to value server community as a plus thing as opposed to a Lip Service. I have been there for a bit over 5 months now and I find that initial finding to be more true than I originally thought.

I had played Great Lakes from the day UO went live till about 8 months after Trammel went live. I am quite happy with LA. :)

I still play UO to this day becuzz of events that angered me a gret deal. revenge is served sweeter cold.

Siege is UO before AOS in the most important aspects of the game, NO INSURANCE, NO SAFETY OUTSIDE TOWN. YOU CAN ACTUALLY MAKE GOLD SELLING RESOURCES TO OTHER PLAYERS.

you and your friend should play siege, end of story

I play Legends, where honor, compassion and all the other virtues run deep and true, where tales are passed down from veteran to newbie and the imagination has room to stretch (ok, perhaps a little too much room to stretch at times ... it does get a little lonely now and then). But we do have a little of everything, yet are small enough that you soon start to recognize people.
