Why the world is going to hell in a hand basket

I have been playing on SP for over a year, other shards since birth of UO Online. During that time I have accumulated some nice things and some very good friend in Gil. One of my Keeps is set to private with teleporters set to friends. Yesterday I realized that all of the suits I got as rewards from turn ins, as well as, all the pigment dyes I had were missing from my Keep. This was not loss from decay but from theft. I have always been more trusting than I should but only those in guild and some in alliances were friended to my keep, all others were not able to enter keep. These are people I play with and consider friends. And yes, some of my containers were set to friends. One of these people removed these items from my keep. I don't mourn the loss of the items, but rather I mourn the loss of trust this incident has caused. To which ever thief needed to take my items instead of obtaining their own, I hope you suffer some loss in your life. You make life less enjoyable.
I know this is a game and these items are ethereal at best, but time and effort were spent in their accumulation. To have some thief, whom I trusted, remove these items reflects on them as a person. They are the pathetic few who spoil the enjoyment for the rest of us.
My houses will still keep friended those I know well in the game and continue to trust. All others I do not know well will be removed from access lists. This is not a reflection on everyone, just my own reaction to prevent this type of occurrence in the future. To my friends, I am sorry for this inconvenience, to the thief, you are pathetic and not worthy of more of my time.

Don't put items that you want to keep for yourself in a friend access box, plain and simple. You have no one to blame but yourself.

I have most of my boxes set to co-owner for my alt toon to access, but I also have my two more trusted guildmates set as co-owners. I know the risks, but in the end, it really is just digital crack. If I were to be robbed, I'd have nobody to blame but myself for accessing anyone but my own toons. Fortunately, these guildmates have ethics and honor, so I am really not worried about it.

.
Another good reason for this is sometimes.....people you may still have friended may have moved on and sold/traded an account without thinking about it (it does happen).

Yeah that happened to me a quite a few years ago and I lost everything. They never told me that they sold the account.

Yes, put all the blame on the victom of a theft....

I'm sorry for your loss.
Victim? Quick, better find a tourniquet to stop your bleeding heart!

Lets not be hastily tossing that word around, each case must be evaluated on its own merits, and I don't see a victim here, I see someone who offered items to their friends, and one friend obliged them.

Sure, they should have at least left a thank you note, but I would hardly call that victimizing anyone, I'd just call that bad manners.

Yo ho ho :pirate: Quit yer whinin' ye land lubbers!

All of my items, for the entire time I played, were in boxes with security set to Friends.

Sorry for your loss, but you should be more discriminating with your friends.

The great thing about blame is that there's always more to go around. You can blame both the victim and the offender.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go get drunk, put on a short skirt, and walk down some darkened alleys to my bank. Some Nigerian fellow is going to give me millions of dollars which I'm going to re-invest with my psychic stock broker.
