Why not farming?

Have we discussed this in the past? Why can't players have their own farms? I would rather have my own than go around stealing from NPCS. I think it would be a great addition to the game. I came up with some ideas, what do you think or what would you add/remove?

  • Players can place farms as they would a house or one of the new Farmhouses
  • Each Account can have 1 house and 1 Farm or a Farmhouse
  • Introduce new seeds
  • Introduce new potions for farming
  • Only certain items can be locked down on farms
  • Farms can be Private or Public (or perhaps just public)
  • Farming can go with a skill like Cooking or no skill at all
  • Can have farm animals/crops that produce resources
  • Can introduce threats to the farm to make it interesting

I actually thought farming should've been a skill way back in the day. I mean historically it is one of the most important professions ever. I think now they could enact farming with farm plots, similar to raised gardens. You place them in your home and cultivate them. Furthermore, you could probably make eating mean something again in-game.

I imagine the PvPers and strict PvMers might hate that if what they do is always like this: log in - fight - log out. This is a way to play the game that is respectable, too. If they can be persuaded to adapt then I'd be all for it.

I would love to have a small farm. It would take nothing away from the game for those who aren't interested, but would add SO much to the game for those of us who would enjoy it!

Having eating mean something doesn't mean you have to eat or you fizzle your spells. My suggestion for eating way back in the day (and this was prior to alacrity scrolls) was basically to allow meals cooked by chefs to serve as alacrity scrolls. My thinking was it would give a boost to the cook profession and make food something that is useful in-game. It wouldn't have forced people to adjust their playstyles, however.

Anything that adds depth and options to a playstyle, such as RP or crafting, is always a good idea. If you then, say, make the effects of those cookery items that DO affect combat be improved by using farmed materials the cook or alchemist grows themselves, you could even have benefits for those who don't want to do the 'farming' part but would have a definite use for the results.
