Why Magincia won't be Luna (also some related suggestions for the team)

In another thread, I wondered aloud if it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if Magincia became the successor to Luna, which itself was a successor to the West Brit Bank.

But I listened to the HoC closely and based on that I don't think Magincia is likely to become Luna.

For this one simple reason. They implied at one point that there would be limited NPC facilities. (They didn't imply this very clearly, mind you, and I would love to hear clarification on that. Will there be a guard zones? A bank? A healer? In fact I'd go so far as to say that clarification, soon, is necessary, so that we can get a grip on what actually might happen instead of just our own speculations.) The phrase was something like "only one thing" from old Magincia would be around, and then they said something about a cathedral at one point.

So let's say that's a bank and a cathedral. That is still not enough to make a new Luna.

As others have pointed out, also, several times now, even if it did have full NPC facilities, it'd be unlikely to be as clustered as Luna's are. And thus, again, for better or worse depending upon your point of view, Luna will maintain its status.

I would go a little further and offer a suggestion...If this is technically possible, perhaps limit, say, the materials you could build a house. Or the colors you could use. Or the kinds of designs you could use. Etc. So you couldn't have a crystal neon cave, or a dark and menacing stone tower. The idea being to in effect limit Magincia housing to anyone who doesn't made at least appearing to be part of a new, humble community of New Magincia.

And, sometimes, appearances can be the start of something real.

I'd like to know if its all in the guard zone. If so, it will replace luna on siege as the place to shop.

I thought it was leaked/mentioned there would be a housing tile set for Magincia, which is a very good idea.

One other way it won't be, only 22 plots, in total, with them divided up geographically between north and south.

I don't recall that at all; would be neat if true.

Looks like a lot of panic !!! People worrying about their precious Luna falling out of favor. It will be a glorious day !!!!

Soon Magincia will rule Britannia !!!

Luna houses will plunge in value, new vendor mechanics will make vendors in Luna Obsolete and the removal of physical gold will bring the infidels to their knees !!!!

Mu ha ha !!!

Mu ha ha !!!

Mu *chokes* ha *coughs* ha ahhaa !!

Just watched the video; they said there'd be new housing customization sets but not in Publish 70.

Cal made a reference to a housing set in the Magincia segment where Mesanna discusses the flowers, but it was kind of whispered.

If they allowed any tile set, it would pretty much destroy a lot of what they were going for. I may disagree with them on some things, but they are planning the Magincia thing very closely, and we are talking close to 1200 houses across all shards.

The housing set they responded to was simply a generic issue about whether or not there would be a new housing set, and it was revealed that it wouldn't be in Pub 70, but that one was coming.

What I took from that is that it's an unrelated, undisclosed housing set (that may be the new pieces that some/all of New Magincia will be built of... think Old Magincia with some embellishments -- or may be something completely different) that is coming in the future.

While I think it would be nice to enforce regional tilesets, it's not very realistic. If they were going to do something like that, they'd need to have addressed it similar to how SWG addressed housing on various planets. I don't really see them starting restrictions now.

Besides... regardless of limited tilesets, there will still be beautifully designed, well thought out plots, and there will still be crystallized swamps with lava rivers flowing over stone walls curved for the sake of curving and accented with Tokunese and thatch roof tiles all enhanced by a couple of red steps.

How many ways can you slice an orange? Or should I say, a rose by any other name? Luna, que bella, full of opportunity, graphic confusion, wasted voyages due to mislabeled and untimely vendor names left with prefect gold coin designs and nothing inside. It's expectation versus reward at its finest.

If you run through the woods for a half hour looking for a deal, you expect nothing. When you find one, you feel triumphant. It doesn't matter if you save 10k or 10 mil. Until the future of UO surfaces--a threat I find unlikely given the lack of substance as of late--there's no easy way to find what we need. At least, no "legal" way. So here we are, with those who prefer to run through the woods, and those who prefer convenience, and the convenience charge.

Magincia, at its best, becomes Plan B, a step we can take before our wild runs. That breaking point, in which all of the failed designs of user intervention call on us to try something different. And should we ever have the opportunity to sell items directly from our doorstop, no matter where we live, then perhaps we will have destroyed all of our former interactions with each other, in exchange for a new set of social directions by which to enjoy the game. Until then, I WTB a real 3D client. Please let me know when that story arc emerges. I'll be spamming it at WBB.
