All of this information will be covered in the announcement. But, the alternative payment method for North America is the EA cash card for the EA Store. http://www.eacashcard.com.

They can be purchased at:

* Walmart
* Safeway
* Toys R us
* 7 Eleven

I believe pay by cash will be an option but as I said earlier all of the details will be available in the announcement."

The above post is an example in support of the question I am posing. I was trying to get one of those cards only to be informed they are not available in Canada. (last I check both Mexico and Canada were in North America) I really enjoy UO and I was looking forward to the expansion. However, my wife and I are both wondering why EA Mythic seems to be trying to discourage people from getting it. Not having a non credit card method is discouraging, not having a discount option is discouraging and now I have read in another thread that I was to spend 39.00 for the tokens and pets it is limited to one per customer? It would appear that from a business perspective EA Mythic wants the expansion to fail.

One other point was the 30 days game time for the 39.00 option is only for new accounts. This was not how I read it or a lot of other players, this means if I upgrade I will be paying more in total than if I was to start a new account. I will end up paying about 43 dollars per account. Meaning I will have to seriously re think getting the expansion.

Can anyone at EA Mythic shed some light on why they seem to being this. It makes no sense to actively discourage your current customers from getting an expansion.

I don't know where in Canada you are but I saw a EA card just the other day at my local 7-11.

I went to Walmart they said they did not carry them in Canada and I asked at EB games who carry alot of things like that and they also said they could not get them as they were for the US only. I am glad you saw one but it still begs the question why make it so difficult?

The card I saw was a EA game card, had pogo or something plastered all over it, so I cannot verify it works for the estore.. but im sure it was something along those lines.

Ok Called 7-11 (various stores) They did not know anything about EA cash cards. They had other cards for other games. Ok wife also learnt that all the cool things that were to be offered with the expansion may be only available in the US. SO no gargoyle character transfers, craftable pets or statues. Just seems to get worse and worse from a business model and customer service.

If you have a PayPal account, you can get the PayPal plugin which will generate a secure credit card number to use for an online purchase. I just thought I would share that info in case you don't have a credit card, and have a PayPal account and weren't aware.

Honestly I've not seen anything that says a non-US credit card won't work or that those special items won't be available to people outside the US.

*edit* Nevermind, I now see where that idea is coming from. I have to agree it's poorly worded fine print. I think a clarification is definitely needed here.

It's probably not EA, but your country that is difficult to work with.

Actually, the Patriot Act really screwed with banking and international transactions, so I'd blame that before I blamed EA or some other country.

Can you buy a prepaid VISA card anywhere?
The upgrade is expensive as is. Most prepaids charge a minimum fee to have money put on them, going that way it will very likely mean over 50 dollars to upgrade. The point of the thread is that all these glitches, the poor choice of wording in fine print and pricing should have been dealt with well before now. Hence the impression EA Mythic not seeming to want the expansion to succeed. There is also the problem that when other games are going to store editions the electronic only sale is also be a problem. I have no doubt that stores like EBGames in Canada would be willing to sell a boxed version. They continued to carry and sell 9th anni/8th anni and Mondains legacy untill they could not longer get boxes to sell. I just wish EA Mythic would clarify why all the information is last minute and seemingly that what had been put out there for about a month wrong. Changing information on a site days before release, does not instill confidence in the company or in the product. I know my wife and I are not alone in wondering what they are thinking.

I'd love to know how a Debit card works in U.S.
I thought the very definition of a debit card was the same worldwide.
ie, you can use the card like a (amount limited)creditcard but only aslong as the money is in your bank account.

This ain't the first time this has come up, it's like this every time their's something to buy from an online shop. How do you lot manage to pay for UO now?

A Debit Card is like a credit card that ties into your bank account. You charge something and the money comes out of your bank account. Most Debit cards have Visa, MasterCard or some other logo on them. The Patriot Act had nothing to do with the debit/credit card problem. While in the military I used my card ererywhere I went, including Canada. After Visa got hacked and myself included lost all or money from or bank accounts, Visa and all the major credit card co.s issued in the US stopped letting out of country transactions through. I can use mine out of country if I let my bank know ahead of time. Don't blame the countries or the Patriot Act, blame the hackers and the low security the credit card co.s had. And Visa, because of thier policy had to replace all that money stolen.
