Why is Blackthorn Dungeon abandoned?

Small number of people got busted scripting gold eles and balrons, Mesanna decided the best way to resolve that was to empty out the entire dungeon aside from the town cutouts so nobody could do anything there except for the cutouts. Which are ironically heavily scripted.
If you buy the new player package from the uo store one of the runebooks they give you still has blackthorns as it should be. Of course paddy cakes will suggest expecting them to update their own stuff is just wrong
Stripping a dungeon rather than fixing issues with unattended scripters is a fine example of all that's wrong with UO
i would rather do shadow guard, excodus, scalis or the events they been putting out. ive done blackthorns alot and dont need anything from it anymore. if there is a big group doing with you, you can get 3 drops per generals and get items you need fast. you kill fast too. also too much candy or better places to do can make things not worth doing in my opinion.
Still good for making gold though. Each Minax Artifact is worth around 300k on Atlantic, many of the 100 point rewards sell for 30+ Mill. With a big, even semi-organized group (Para Fields save lives big time), you can rack up Minax Artifacts fast. I bring two chars to debuff the Captains with RC+AP+CB+DR, and the Captains melt like butter, giving me enough Minax Artifacts per city pod for a 100 point reward between the two chars. I have all the Blackthorn Artifacts i need, so just sell them at this point.
So long as you get looting rights, you're guaranteed 1-3 Minax Artifacts per Captain too, which even newer chars/players can do. It's basically guaranteed rewards for participating, which is a lot more than Shadowguard, Exodus, or Scalis, which only have a few valuable drops which are by no means guaranteed.
Blackthorns was an excellent training place...
There were a lot of complaints and Mesanna decided to fix them all in her way. First she ruined it for tamers, then for stealthers and eventually finally for everyone else as well. She still hasn't nerfed the pods, so better dont give her ideas

If you recall they turned it into an event, it flooded with sewage or something, that's why everything was removed. We got coins from the NPCs there.
If you recall they stripped it. then when people complained they came up with big events happening BS.. but you're gonna keep chugging the koolaid

Many things are that way. One crazy guy tries to light his shoe strings on fire and now we have to take off our shoes.

There was an event thing down there with a bunch of event NPCs, and when the event ended all the extra stuff was removed, but the old stuff wasn't put back. Sad.
Again if i recall they stripped it then when people complained they came up with the story line...

Their tagline for the last 2.5 years is that they "are focusing all efforts on NL" they probably didn't have the resources to do it.
Gold elementals are very expensive.

It is also an "open your eyes people" to the ones who like to shout "scripters don't hurt anyone"! This was done directly BECAUSE of the scripters. Rather than take action against the cheaters, the devs punish everyone. Why? Only they can answer that. But don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. The current devs suck monkey n*ts, and should all be canned.
