People who do engage in this activity will get what they deserve looks like you got yours.

So... the buyer gets the gold and the seller gets the cash as mutually agreed? Sounds fair to me.

Isn't the Free Market great?

Do you guys know that actually most gold sold in this (and other games) is actually simply farmed by low wage sweat shop employees in China and other countries where labour costs next to nothing?

Buy gold, support criminally organized child work at its best. And no, 18 hours UO farming in a dark, hot cellar for 2 bucks a day that merely buy your food is not the fun that you are used to playing this game.

I mean, sure, buy Nike and you get the same - but they at least try to do as they would care to improve matters.

Nice Wired article: http://is.gd/5zTJV

First off, the 'sweat shop' scenario is not necessarily the main source of gold sold. And the child-slavery aspect is greatly exagerated. And on the contrary, such opportunities on the internet (eg. MMORPGs) allow for people in poorer countries to earn more money than they could otherwise. It's beneficial for them.

FYI, most of the UO gold isn't farmed by sweatshops in China, but from supply networks within the USA (with and without scripting both).

And only scammers are "sleaze". There are many perfectly ethical, trustworthy and reliable gold dealers in UO, that provide a range of other services other than simply gold. For instance, that they farm and sell imbuing ingredients, is a valuable service for many players.

EA already sells everything from experience to items. Why is gold different?
Because EA sells many scriptor accounts that sell gold. If EA sells gold, then say goodbye to many scriptor accounts.

Meh, for that matter why don't they sell bans? As in pay X amount of money to have someone banned.

I KNOW EA would easily make 20 grand on me alone! LMAO if everyone that hated me so much each paid EA 100 bucks to have me banned!

Damn! Buy a ban would be one heck of a revenue generator!

Although I would not buy you a ban, I would pay stratics to buy you a custom tile and signature.

Anyways. I am interested Connor_Graham on how, without cheating, and by staying clearly within the TERMS of SERVICE for UO, you think you could supply the same 'service' as these cancerous websites. Please, do tell, your obviously 'mature' enough to 'know' how it is done.
Its called Running around the fricken server and reading house signs. Then marking them and going to the darn idoc. Looting the items and throwing it on a vendor! Duh!

I wont defend gold selling websites but they do buy the gold for about 20 - 40 cents cheaper then they sell it for. I am just saying. Its kinda like a Duh!

EA selling gold would be creating gold from nothing in the same way that Duping creates gold from nothing.

Gold (in theory) enters the game (note that entering the game is different than saying that as a player you can make a certain amount of gold per hour/day/etc) at a certain devised rate.

Allowing the company to simply make gold to satisfy gold for cash sales would throw the economy into further spiraling inflation because people could simply buy up as much as they wanted.

Might as well make duping perfectly legal at that point because the effect is the same.
QFT.
The economy, although better than it used to be, is still bad and if EA sold gold, it would tank completely.

Heh sounds like the "someone" you know is YOU. Guess ya had to resort to buying gold after ya spent everything you owned buying a castle? Personally IMHO if you buy gold for $$ period you deserve whatever you get for dealing with the sleeze that sell UO gold. As far as i'm concerned if you sell UO Gold you are SLEEZE period. I've never bought or sold gold for RL $ I never will. People who do engage in this activity will get what they deserve looks like you got yours. To bad so sad i'll play a mini violin in your honor or is that dishonor?
This.

If you buy gold you're giving the scripters a market, if noone bought, there would be no market.
