People ask questions in a new thread that had been previously answered elsewhere? I mean isnt the purpose of a discussion board to discuss things? If you dont want to answer someone's question just because it has already been asked somewhere else then just dont answer. If you type out a response such as "why didnt you use the search function, or this has been answered previously noob why didnt you look". You spent the little energy it took to type that why not just answer the question? Its not like the person caused you a major inconvenience by asking the question. No someone didnt flame me for me asking a repeatedly answered question its just an observation of something that occurs on pretty much every forum. I'm actually curious if there is a legit reason for the hate or if people just get annoyed because someone didnt use the search function.

Searching generally is a faster way to get the answer you need in my experience as well. But you know what I mean how some people will respond and just flame some poor soul for asking where item x is.
It is something that has grown over recent years.
Some people view it as spamming, to ask a question that has already been answered, while some consider it necromancy to bump an old thread.
I have seen it especially prevalent in the communities of games in beta, since there is little-to-no support or guides available, as well as bugs to confound issues.
There is really no winning.

In a thread with an unrelated title. Go find it. It is easy. Especially when your search brings up a lot of unrelated stuff.

I've noticed quite often when I do a search that I will find the word/words in posts but not necessarily the answer I am looking for and can be frustrating. We all have varying degrees of patience depending the subject, situation and perhaps what mood one is in at the moment. We are all very diverse; it doesn't excuse flaming though.
I try to answer any question as fully as I can and, if possible, with a supporting link with further information on the site.
I do feel a little impatience when the answer is in a sticky thread at the top of the same forum, or in a thread only 2 or 3 up or down the page, but I try not to show it in my answer.
I also get a little fed up when people tell me uo.stratics is out of date and you can't find anything on it. The custom google search box we sought out, installed and trouble shot works really well, when people actually use it.

don't get me wrong, the Engineers do a terrific job and are actually pretty nice people, but,I want comments back in the monster DB.
no anon posts, Must have a min. of 50? posts, or even a copy of a post from a moderated post area(like from uHall)something like that. I know there's several of us that really miss them.
Shame we all lose out because of low IQ's and spammers - a little update in that area woulds be nice

There's a new system in works for the uo.stratics site and the hunter DB that will allow comments, It's just taking a lot of time to work out if the current systems, which are quite old, will port over easily.

I got on Hall due to support in game being useless. SPending extra time on Hall going through the fluff is less time in game. Feeling I need to spend more time here to be heard leads to less time in game. A Game most are not happy with and thin down their accounts due to lack of support or a clue on ingame aspects over need to push out more half cooked upgrades and expansions.

The particular bit of software that controls input to the hunter's database is too old to be able to protect it from the avalanche of porn spam it was getting, and 50 half screen length posts of urls that would give the board profanity filter heartfailure was a bit more than I wanted to wade through daily to delete. (it was turning my stomach tbh).
We are looking to move the whole site onto a more upto date and robust content management system, but I don't have an eta on that as yet

Because, there's cool people, and there's just plain ignorant.
Alot of time, when you use the search function, a kajillion threads appear, and it can take along time to read through each and every one.......
I tend to believe people who answer like a horses ass tend to be very, very, unhappy in their personal lives, and UO is their escape.
Yeah really. Don't get why the OP feels this is a hard concept to grasp. It's the teach you how to fish instead of giving a fish model.
But no one likes redundancy. If there are three threads about the same thing on one page of UHall then the OP deserves to be bashed. Or asking a tamer specific question on UHall instead of the tamer forum. You know, sometimes a person needs to get hated on, or else everyone would just be lazy.
Anyway, shouldn't this thread be in spiels n' rants or something? It doesn't even have to do with UO, it's just a critique on other Stratics users, lol.
