why cant we have some of the new stuff!

i was at work today, and it was slow at work.
had a new partner as well, young kid.

we where relaxing at the fire hall and he got out his laptop and loaded up a game, i looked over and i was pretty impressed by the graphics, so he started giving me the layout of the entire game.... you know how we all do that.

This game is that new Star Wars game that EA and Bioware have out.
that got me thinking.... thats the same people that own UO.

so hes showing me around the game and what they do and such and it hits me.... this game has stuff in it that we have been SCREAMING for for years!

why do they get it and we dont!!!!

they have auction thing built right into the game!
no having to use some outside persons personal site to trade stuff or sell stuff anymore.

they have companions!
they DONT MINE RESOURCES!
they hire dudes to work for them and they tell them what to go do.... and they do it!
it would be like hiring a miner and then telling him to go mine for you.... and he would!
or go get ya BODs and fill them for ya!
they've taken the grind out of being a mule!!!!

i was just in shock.

its like they took the stuff we have wanted for years and rolled it into their new game and left us out in the cold.

give us some of the love.... dont forget about us.... your old yet faithful first love!

I really really enjoy mining and lumberjacking!!! Going out and gathering resources was my favorite thing when I took a break and played SWG and WoW.

I think this is all a course of the fact that the player base took it upon themselves to fix such issues. The grind has been pushed out for those that don't want to do it, the trades are handled at third party sites, limited macros that should have been added years ago are covered by UOA, a mapping system was added by players and all the information that is needed is at a few websites none of which are the official UO site.

EA milked then years of data from this game, and others, to make SW. With luck it works cause that is positive for us, I think, but we will forever be the ugly girl at the dance, good for a shag but you'd never tell your friends.

UO's strategy is to maintain existing p(l)ayers at the minimum cost.

Money goes into other projects, such as other "top secret" Ultima franchise projects and SWTOR, where there is better perceived rewards/profits.

sounds like some major auto makers who use economy car platforms and frames to build muscle and luxury cars. so the truth is out, the devs do read the forums, but only to take our ideas for other projects. star wars def. needed to be good considering considering one of there games went F2P. viva la UO resistance.

UO is old on an old platform.

Big difference in what you can do or moreso,what is feasible to do with time restraints and budget restraints. I`m sure they could do ALOT more if both were not such a factor.

I already see rants on BFH forums about an old platform and how upgrading this or that is difficult because of it. That game is less than 3 years old.

What I find most amusing (and please don't get me wrong) is how shocked you are. Many of us in here have played WoW and other such games and come back to UO and have talked about how good the systems are in those other games and why we want similar systems implemented in UO and how UO needs these things in order to retain new players who are used to such systems that are not so grind heavy. The last in-game auction house thread that got locked had many people discussing the WoW auction house and how it has or hasn't ruined the WoW economy. Makes me wonder how many of the rest of you who are always saying no have not played those games either?

I have never played another game. If and when this game is shut down it will be the only MMORPG I have and will play. The "wasted" time I've tossed at this game will never happen again.

I have played other games, lots of'em.

It's not what other games have that is so galling, it's that EA could have given us all this stuff and so much more many, many times over during the course of the last 15 years.

It's not the Devs. They care. Many of them, past & present, would have handed us the Sosarian moon on a stick, had they been given the time & resources to do so.

It's the Suits. Suits are, well, Suits.

Maybe it's not so different from what an ex-wife might feel, viewing all the shinies so lovingly bestowed upon the newest wife. It's not even that we miss the ex so much as we just miss those feelings of love, excitement & passion.

And like any smart ex-wife, perhaps it's time we moved on to find some new gaming partner who can appreciate us and lavish upon us all the joys a new gaming partnership brings.

An in-game auction system like WOW would be the DEATH of UO. Sure it is so much easier to go shopping in one huge digital mall. However the prices would be gouged so much that no one would afford to get anything. I had a lvl 9 dwarf sit in WOW auction house and made a fortune just buying up all the cheap and reselling it and didn't even have to move a muscle accept to run up the ramp to the mailbox and back. In UO only the existing rich would get richer, new players would be totally priced out of the market. Right now you can still find the odd bargain if you are prepared to shop around and get out of the Luna mall.

As much as some do it now, buy and resell, they at least have to run around and manually 'check' each vendor if they are not inside luna/zento walls, and still need to search each item out if they use the illegal webs for luna/zento stuff. Even then they still have to physically take their char along and click the vendor to buy it and cart it back and go to the effort to stock their own vendor.

Prices would quadruple or more with the 'easy auction' that the royal "everyone" seems to so want. (please remember just because 'you' want something it doesn't mean 'everyone' wants it) It would kill a huge part of what makes UO unique going down that path. The day that comes in I will certainly be gone for good as running vendors and trying for the ultimate 'great store' is one of the few reasons I play.

These websites that have sprung up are actually detrimental to the overall shopping experience as they take away a lot of the 'magic' that was once uo. Tons of player interaction such as 'oh i want a full spellbook, anyone know where I can get one?' 'Oh here, this vendor outside minoc is great for books' etc etc. Worse they are selective in their lists being only luna/zento therefore against the average player who is outside these venues and will perhaps never make the money to 'buy' in is at a woeful disadvantage.

If EA/Mythic took the power away from them by putting in its 'own' vendor "search" inclusive of all vendors then perhaps that would be acceptable however that will never happen. And note I said vendor 'search' NOT an 'auction house'.

The search websites are certainly not doing it for the good of UO, only for the good of their own wallets, hence the real life $$$ tag to each item if they so kindly 'buy' it for you.

And no, you wouldn't still attend in game auctions as they would become extinct as a by product of any official UO auction house set up. Another thing that would be destroyed.
