Why are we still here 25+ years later?

Because my oldest kid started asking about my shelf of UO/Ultima game boxes, mementos/souvenirs, maps and books.

Because I have stuff in-game that my main characters acquired back in 1998, and this impressed my kids greatly. And they were extremely impressed to find a mention of my oldest kid's birth on the bulletin board of a house that is near where my characters lived back then.

Because it's something I can play with my kid that won't drive me crazy (Minecraft) or get bored (WOW, Final Fantasy XIV).

Because the housing system is amazing (we trudged through LOTRO and Final Fantasy housing systems and NO THANK YOU!) (the jury is out on WOW's housing system which does look amazing).

I'm here for the community... and I do still enjoy playing every aspect of this game.

Whether it be PVM content, PVP, trading rares, theory crafting templates and builds, helping 'newbies' -- this game still is unique and has alot to offer. As this game has matured, so have I and some of the friendships (or rivalries!) I've made in this game span decades. There is no game like it - and nothing has ever been able to truly replicate the feel I still get from Ultima Online.

Within our Discord communities, we have players from all over... Europe, Asia, America -- who are forced to all interact because of the tight knit size of our community, rather then retreat to a place of comfort. I'm in groups that still do find true 'new' players and teenagers that join in and explore the game... and at the other end of the spectrum, the little old ladies that hang around and love to help people with decorating and minor crafting needs. It's something that you rarely see in other titles... but we have it here in UO.

Even these forum interactions, I consider this all apart of the UO experience. To quote the theme from Cheers, it's a place where everyone knows your name. You're not just 1 player of a few hundred thousand that gets lost in the mix of other MMOs. With another anniversary on the horizon, I am hopeful we can keep our community together for decades to come.

Because one of my Husband's accts' hasn't been turned off since Beta, because my Husband and I met in game 20+ years ago.. married IRL and still play quite often together, because we have Guildmates that we have played together with for 15+ years and still have a riot getting each other killed in bizarre situations. UO feels a bit like "home."

Mainly because I don't have time to start other video games from ground up these days.

And since I've already invested soo much time in UO past 20+ years I don't have to deal with the grinding or learning phases now with this game. I can just log in and go straight in a hunt, solo some peerless, do a little pretend role play adventure, or maybe tinker around with some builds. Then later when I log out I don't have to think about how I'm going to "beat" the game; rather at most I might re-think my strategies about fighting a boss or something..

There's many other video games I would love to play, but due to other life obligations and priorities, it's better than I don't start playing them to begin with otherwise it becomes a timesink. With UO I can just approach casually in a weekly basis and log off in a whim.

Been hanging arouond since 98. Its been a part of life. People have been playing Madden since they were teenagers, Ive been playing Ultima.

The community for the most part has been fun. The pvp was top notch when factions was strong. Pub 16 was cool but then it turned into a min/max thing. Housing and collecting was cool too.

I barely play, but I have two accounts active. I get the hair up my rear end and play hardcore for a few months then take another break. Just something about the nostalgia that keeps bringing me back I guess.

And I like the forums. Hell, Ive seen the names in here for 25 plus years. Its always fun to see what everyone is up too.

I am not sure I will be there anymore. I am wondering if it is worth it resubbing my accounts on the end of the 3rd month out since this is unplayable in a 1440p ultra wide monitor regardless of the client I use.

I use an 36 curved ultra wide monitor, and play the new web client and it seems to do pretty well!

You only have 1 monitor at your gaming station?
I have 3 1440p ultrawides for iRacing and coding. The EC looks terrible with zoom and the CC is a post stamp I can't see anything at and I can't set up macros that help me play with my disability.
Same with the web client.

The Community, as a group, has cared for each other IRL. The ongoing relationships spanning now over decades is amazing. The fun and adventure never ends with something new to discover or challenge yourself with as you evolve over time.

I also enjoy walking the roads and trails of Sosaria. Lots of creative houses, little niche areas of the map and untold stories I find fresh and new while collecting the random reagents I use in my craft.

Lastly, the happy taverns are filled with good stories, friends and of course a glass of Good Old Moonglow Red!

*Tips his hat and raises his glass of Good Old Moonglow Red in salute to you and your adventurers*
