I was in the woods working healing with a cloak of corruption and mongbats. These guys all showed up, never attacked me, but just followed me all over the place, even after I took the cloak off. That event was quite a while back, and I don't remember...did this happen then? Is this the norm?

no herding, no taming, not released animals ( I couldn't tame the healer anyway :p)
Just a glitch I guess *shrugs*

Working Healing can provide for a good solid sweat. Especially in the woods. That Sweat helps move the Salt content to your clothing.

You became a walking Salt lick especially after taking off the cloak.

They need their salt and you were the one to provide it. :)

This glitch is based on creature AI's attacking simulation. They lose the aggro but keep following as if they're attacking. Same will happen if you enter a dungeon and get attacked by creatures, then exit and re-enter while hidden: they will follow you. The creatures that follow you might have a positive karma (maybe pre-tamed creatures) thus attacked you because of your low karma but lost the aggro somehow yet kept following you.

In the past I have made animals follow people. Use herding skill and then target a person. The animal will follow the person targeted. I did this while hidden. I have not tried this in a long time but I will go check if it still works

What Zamot said... I trained herding while stealthing, and you can do some very amusing things to other people.

You can herd positive/negative karma critters all over Ilshenar while stealthing... great for stocking up on arrows from the ratmen spawn.

LOL okay. Nice trick for a herder then. Guess that's karma payback for all those times I named something "Blonde Detector" and told it to follow Nog! :D

This is an effect of wearing the Cloak of Corruption. The effects are varied and unpredictable and can continue after you've taken off the cloak. Some of those effects involved animals. The idea is that nature itself recognizes the unnatural evil of the cloaks and reacts in varying ways.

Look up the article on the Cloak of Corruption on the UO Guide, it has a summary from Draconi about what the effects are. (Though I think even he didn't necessarily know everything that it did.)
