WHY are there 'REDs" in Cities?!!

I'm a so-called returning player who transferred a crafter to Lake Superior as support for a character I want to build up so I can play with a friend.

However, in the last week, my journeyman warrior has been attacked and killed repeatedly (in true PK "griefer" fashion) by Ranters and Angry *heads. There's not enough players around to draw them away so they steal your un-insured items and stand over your body.

At first I figured it's some kind of event and they would go away. But no. Today I bought some mark scrolls and runes and was marking the trammel banks. I used a borrowed runebook to go to Yew and was met by Another 'Ranter' at the Heartwood entrance. No way to avoid these NPCs - can't fight them - at least a newish player can't.

So WHY are they in Trammel cities? Why are they in cities at ALL! I searched and cannot find any mention of "Ranters" in UO.

Is this my NEXT reason to quit UO?

By "ranters" I assume you mean "rioters" and they are only in the original cities, which means you can bank anywhere else without fear of attack from them. That includes Buccaneers Den, Cove, Haven, Serpents Hold and Nujelm. And then there are all the other non-trammel cities (Luna, etc)

It's all part of the current story arc. Britannia is supposed to be a living breathing world so there are always things going on. The current protests and riots are part of that.

Yeah I think you mean raiders, not ranters, hence you not finding them anywhere in the search. Story arc, the raiders are only in the original cities so to speak, excluding the ones mentioned above.

Jimson you need to read the "EM events" and story lines.
You Mean RAIDERS. Not RANTERS.
ALSO NOTE: Not RIOTERS.
RIOTERS are proteesters burning the cities using garbage fire bombs. and
The ones to look out for are the RAIDERS.
Raiders are RED.

RUN from the REDS. They only appear in cities named by the Town Criers warning you about about them.

* you have to love how the instructions from the Captain of the Guard in cities helps make players think Rioters need to be killed. I have often seen players killing the rioters when they should be arresting those NPC's and turning them in to the City Captain of the Guard for Loyalty Points to ONE city.

As you can see, below, how rioters and raiders can be easily be confused: :)

You ALL mean RAIDERS which are the strongest groups of NPC's invading cities. These are groups of NPC's who raid various cities killing everyone and looting victimes to take the goods back to their own city. If you subdue them and then use the rope supplied by the Captain of the Guard to arrest them, the Raider can be turned in to the Capt of the Guard. They do hope you can return to them to the city from whense they came. Otherwise they NEED to be killed.

The RIOTERS don't attack you, and are captured using a rope supplied by the Captain of the guard in each city. You will learn that you should only pick one city per characters and that character can gain various levels of incresasing loyalty status to ONE CITY ONLY by turning in rioters (not raiders).. That is part of the ongoing events.

Live Arc Started

You will be noticing we have added town loyalty, please pick the town you are the fondest of, you can only have loyalty to one town. Starting this month and continuing thru September the UO Team and the EM Team have worked together to create something we are very excited about. So keep your ears and eyes open for the next phase in this adventure as we prepare in the coming months for our 15th Anniversary!"""

Those are the cities that rioter's might appear, so goto Haven, Buc's, Papula or may of the others will the end of sept.

Gotta love those red fools though. They show that there is strength in numbers if nothing else.

Now come to siege, where you can meet real Reds in town :)

Although you'll probably be taking a picture with your camera cause there ain't many left lol.

But on siege, as far as I'm aware, we've not had a single red Raider NPC.

I believe Jimson is playing on Lake Superior. Whoever set up the raiders there most recently neglected to inform the town cryers to spew information about which cities were being raided. The town cryers on LS seem to only know two things: "Protests and riots spread across Britannian towns!" and "Cove has seceded from Britannia and joined with the Confederacy!"

Here is where I spotted raiders on LS, Jimson: West side of the main part of Jhelom and on the south end of the island with the field of farm animals; the center of Yew by the entrance to Heartwood (there may be others, I didn't search Yew that thoroughly); Minoc near the stable and near the gypsy tents; Skara Brae near the ranger's guild hall; and the northeast corner of Moonglow near the tailor shop. I did not spend much time running through Delucia or Bucs Den, but I'm not sure they're involved in this arc at this point.

Sure seems you guys are right. I started a new character, 'Ansel Adams' intending to PROVE I was getting killed by an NPC known as a "Ranter" in Moonglow - cannot find one. Looks like there are two or three "raiders" in each town.

SO - a brand new character is now safer outside the guard areas? I don't get it.

Anyway - next, I will see if my archer on my regular shard can take a raider down one-on-one.

Thanks for your info!

Okay, my gm archer on Baja cannot find any raiders - though the crier in Haven is crying about Cove - just live over on LS.

Has anyone seen any?

And - how do they stack up as opponents? I am guessing that they are just about the same as the priests of Mondain.

Raiders appear rather sporadicly on most shards. They make the Priests of Mondain seem like pushovers. Raiders have high hit points, high resists, no slayer, and are rather fast - so don't go after one unprepared.
